Armstrongism Started The 'Ecology" Movement

Did you know that the Worldwide Church of God, under Herbert Armstrong started the national craze on healthy food eating and the ecology movement?  Today's concerns for the earth were brought about by WCG publications and the awesome teachings of Herbert Armstrong.

Say what???????????

In the 1960's the church was in the forefront of healthy eating: getting away
from bleached flour, and other processed foods, encouraging natural foods (later
termed 'organic', etc.

In the 1970's and early 80's, the church was in the forefront of properly taking
care of the land God gave us, later termed the 'ecology' movement.

Every once in a while I would come across people in radio and television, who,
when Herbert Armstrong's name was mentioned, knew very much about him.

The Plain Truth, and in a different way, the Good News broke new ground, and we
were never credited. There is a scripture which states that we were noticed,
but never acknowledged.

Yes, and the printing press was created precisely for HWA's use as were jet planes. Computers came into being so that WCG could track its members and produce magazines and booklets. Cars were created by Henry Ford so that WCG ministers could travel and spread the gospel.  Typewriters were created for use by HWA to write his co-worker letters.  Dom Perignon and Harvey's Bristol Creme was created for the use of true Apostles. Glass blowing was created so that Apostolic gifts of Baccarat crystal could be given to world leaders.  Lawyers were created to defend Rod Meredith when he could not keep his fat mouth shut. Trucks were created to move Apostolic prayer rocks to Oklahoma.  The list could go on and on about the crazy things Armstrongites believe.

On the issue of eating healthy, it's more like Herbert Armstrong was attempting to take the WCG back to the good old 1890s so that he could be comfortable with the familiar little isolated world he was trying to create, to raise his opinions to the level of doctrines.

He was behind much of the innovation which gave the United States the leading edge in the world the same way that plagiarizing a booklet from the CoG7D, suing them for plagiarizing it and having to drop the suit when they dug into their file cabinets from the 1930s to show that they wrote it in the first place.

Furthermore, the whole venue was a triumph of image over substance (and later, substance abuse). The whole world and the technologies in it existed for the benefit of Herbert Armstrong to surround himself with nice things, pollute the air by travelling around the world in his private jet for ego boosts with the few people he thought were worthy of him and to increase entropy for members by taking their resources and appropriate them for himself so as a fat little short man, rotund, he could wallow in luxury while maintaining his manic state of yelling ("YOU DON'T GET IT!!!") as a man with greatly distorted perceptions who set science back centuries with his obsession on British Israelism.

In his abject selfishness, he managed to retard real progress by taking away freedom and enslaving the people. Everything flowed from him as THE one and ONLY source of all wisdom and knowledge. He powerfully discouraged the scientific method and declared that it was used by Adam and Eve in the Garden. He was only open to new technologies if it were a means to make him more of a petty little god with HIS GREATEST Work on the Face of the Earth!!!! Everyone else was a nothing! And if you will recall, he threatened to dump us all for his "eight Japanese Sons". Better for everyone if he had.

But that's what you get with someone with barely an eighth grade education, narcissism and emotionally stuck on the lower edge of adolescence, with a terrible temper, insistent upon always having his own way, having no scientific ability at all, worthless as a technologist and even worse as an historian, enamored with his own false prophecies and, most of all, insistent upon always having his own way: The way that seemed right to him but in the end, ended in death and the dispersal of his GLORIOUS Empire, not even having a single family member inherit much of anything (and not providing for his illegitimate grandchildren either).

Complete old worthless fraud.

Progress: The product we most want to destroy.

When we started attending back in the late '50s, Prevention Magazine already existed, and there were health food chains in most major cities. WCG more or less bought into this movement, but most certainly did not initiate it. Otherwise, wouldn't all of the health food stores have been owned by WCG people?

Also, there was a tremendous movement going on already at the time GTA introduced environmental concerns into the TWT radio and TV programs. It was called the Hippie or Counterculture movement. Basically GTA jumped on pollution as being a sign of the end times. Amazingly, much has been done to clean it up since that time, which is counterintuitive to most die hard Armstrongists who believed that signs of the end times would persist until Jesus returned. We had also been told that America had won its last war.

I think there are just an awful lot of people who don't get out much. They think when they hear something mentioned in their cult for the first time that that means the item being discussed was started or invented by the cult.
