Allegory and the Prophetic Failure of Harold Camping and Rod Meredith

Prophet Thiel is picking apart Harold Camping today concerning his latest prophetic failure.  Jesus was supposed to be returning on Friday, October 21st. That is after Jesus failed to show up last year on May 21st.

Prophet Thiel is indignant that Camping fails to understand what allegory is.  Prophet Thiel is the LAST person on this earth that needs to be reminding Camping on what allegory is!

The Prophet writes the following as the reason Camping's predictions failed.  Camping did not understand allegory.

The short answer is that Harold Camping allegorized away too many key scriptures. In other words, he relied on his own private interpretations and imaginations more than looking at the prophetic sequence that Jesus Himself gave in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. It is that simple. He ignored the fact that required physical events in the Great Tribulation had not happened, nor did the signs in the heavens preceding Jesus’ return occur. Notice that Harold Camping and His followers ignored Jesus’ words which could not pass away:

Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If that's not the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is! Living Church of God's entire existence is based upon a failure to understand what parables, allegory, myths and legends have to do in scripture.

LCG/COG has used the private interpretations and the imaginations of Herbert Armstrong and Rod Meredith as a basis of doctrinal "truth" for decades.  Neither man has any seminary training and is ignorant of biblical hermeneutics, exegesis and eschatology.  Neither man has any understanding how Christian thought developed over the centuries from Plato, Aristotle, and other great thinkers.

Many of the Bible stories were never meant to be taken literally.  Armstrongism has never understood that fact.  While parables, allegories and legends may have great truths in them - just as Greek mythology does - it does not make them "true" in the sense that the event actually happened.

Armstrongism also fails to recognize that Revelation was a hotly disputed book that only made it in the Canon  by the skin of it's teeth.  Yet, Armstrongism looks at it as one of the greatest books ever written.  Literalism literally destroys the mind!

Prophet Thiel follows with a quote from the International Business Times:

Doomsday prophet Harold Camping gives bad name to Christianity, denounced by

International Business Times – ‎ Self-proclaimed Doomsday prophet Harold Camping is nothing more than a charlatan, a fraud who has given a bad name to Christianity, according to Christian leaders.

On that we all can agree!  Thiel however goes on to write:

The iniquity of false prophets such as Harold Camping, Ronald Weinland (who still claims that Jesus will come on May 27, 2012), and others will turn various people off about prophecy.

Prophet Thiel calls Wienland and Camping false prophets and  men who turn people off towards prophecy.  What the hell does he think Rod Meredith has done?  Rod has made hundreds of false prophecies over the decades.  Meredith follows directly in the footprints of Herbert Armstrong who has an even longer list of failures. What about the tens of thousands who have been turned off to the church and God over the decades because of the lies of Meredith and Armstrong?  Why do their failed prophecies continue to  get glossed over?

Thiel continues on:

Those who follow Ronald Weinland of CGPFK may wish to ask themselves how they will feel on May 28, 2012 when Jesus does not return the day before as well (Ronald Weinland, like Harold Camping, also seems to excessively allegorize away prophetic scriptures).

False prophets result in an increase in scoffers, yet despite them, Jesus will return, but not in 2011 or 2012. Please do not allow false prophets to turn you aside from the prophetic and other truths in the Bible.

I would say that those who continue to follow Rod Meredith after his promotion of January 1972 as the date we were supposed to flee to Petra and a few years later for the return of Jesus, may wish to ask themselves why they follow such a failure!  How many lives were destroyed over that one?  Meredith had his golden gloves right in the middle of the mix!  What about his continued "we only have 3-5 more years left" mantra that he has been spitting out for decades?  How can you believe a liar who has been saying the same thing for 50 some years?

Meredith's false prophecies have certainly brought out the scoffers (including this one). We see right through the blatant lies of the man and know him as just one more in a long line of religious despots that seek to control the lives of COG members. Meredith, Weinland, Pack, Flurry, Cox, Steven's, are sick little men who are in deep need of psychiatric help.  How many more men, women and children need to die because of these guys?

False Prophets: Harold Camping and Rod Meredith

Prophet Thiel has a tirade today against Harold Camping who has once again predicted the end of the world this coming Friday, October 21st.  Thiel at least recognizes that Camping is incorrect and a liar.

According to Harold Camping and other supporters of his Family Radio, Jesus will return on and the world will end on October 21, 2011.  Here is what he wrote in his We are Almost There! book:
Significantly, the number 17 links perfectly to the fact of the rapture because spiritually, the number 17 signifies heaven. Moreover, the number 2 (second month) spiritually identifies with those who have been commissioned to bring the Gospel. Is it not amazing that they will be raptured on the 17th day of the second month? Is that coincidental? We also have learned that the last day of the earth’s existence, October 21, 2011, is the 23rd day of the seventh month of the Biblical calendar. The number 23 normally signifies God’s wrath being poured out. The number 7 (seventh month) signifies the perfect fulfillment of God’s purposes. Could this also be coincidental, that the final completion of God’s punishment on the unsaved occurs in the seventh month on a day that features the number 23, which is a number that completely identifies with God’s wrath, thus signifying God’s perfect wrath on the unsaved?  (p. 61-62).
So, based on his proclamations, the world has only a couple of days to exist. Of course, that is not possible, so in a couple of days, his remaining followers will again see that his prediction was wrong (like they did about his predictions for 1994, and the one for May, 21, 2011)

It is interesting that Thiel can see that Camping is a false prophet but cannot see that Meredith is also a false prophet.  Meredith has had just as many false prophecies over the years and MORE!

But Thiel dances by the false prophecies this way.  He claims Camping is making private interpretations of of prophecy, while LCG's and Meredith's version is "literal."  Camping takes his interpretations as literal also.  I do not understand why Meredith's private interpretation are any different than Camping's private interpretations.
We in the Living Church of God believe:
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. (2 Peter 1:19-20, KJV)
Now, Peter is warning that unlike improper human reasoning, prophetic scriptures were not private interpretations. October, 21, 2011 and many of the numbers that have been associated with it are not biblical prophecies, but improper private interpretations of scripture.

While we in believe that we have “a more sure word of prophecy”, it is because we believe that many prophetic scriptures are literal and should often be understood that way. Sadly, those into their own private interpretations, and misunderstand the Bible and the Holy Days, have another view.

Thiel then goes on to say this:

Because he prefers his own imaginations to the truth of the Bible, Harold Camping seems to load one misleading calculation onto other misleading information to get to the wrong answer. He should not be listened to by those that actually believe the Bible. The heavenly signs in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 have not happened, and they must happen first according to Jesus before He can return.

If this is true then Thiel must stop listening and following Rod Meredith, because Meredith over the decades has used his own imagination to interpret scripture in accordance with his belief on the way things should be.  So far has has struck out every single time he opens his mouth.  Once a liar, always a liar.

Yet, Thiel can call Camping a false prophet and not Meredith:

It remains my view that when Jesus does not come on May 21, 2011, hopefully the warnings to his followers will finally sink in. And some may remember that Jesus said,
11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. (Matthew 24:11)
Meredith is a proven and documented false prophet, along with Herbert Armstrong, Gerald Waterhouse, Dean Blackwell and Herman Hoeh.  They have all lied through their teeth for decades.

But there is a grand scheme going on by Satan here.  With Camping and others continually being proven to be false prophets this will have an impact upon the Living Church of God whenever they decide to make an end time prophecy in the future.  Because of all the failed prophets in the past, when people hear LCG/Meredith utter prophecies the world will laugh at LCG and Meredith.  They will be mocked and scoffed at.

Despite false predictions, Jesus will return. And we are to look forward to His return as the Apostle Peter wrote. Jesus will return no earlier than 2018 (and likely later) as certain biblically-required steps have not yet happened (Daniel 9:27; cf. Matthew 24:15,21,29-30).

When God’s true servants proclaim the truth about prophetic events, people are likely to point to false predictions (supposedly, but not really, from the Bible) and scoff, though God still wants people to repent (2 Peter 3:3-9). This scoffing is one of the dangers of the October 21, 2011 date that will soon be proven false.

If Thiel and LCG don't want to be mocked and scoffed at then stop telling prophetic lies as if they were the truth!  Shut down your cult headquarters and stop lying!

Harold Camping: Corpses of the Unsaved Will Be Flung From Graves

This moron just keeps digging the hole deeper and deeper.  It looks like most of his followers are still loyal to him.  Should we expect anything less?  Not really, considering we did the same thing in the early 1970's when Herbert Armstrong's lies did not come true.  The church stood behind him and sent even more money in. It is starting to look like October 21st will be another fun day!  The rapture and the undead all bouncing off each other.

Harold Camping: Dead Bodies Will Surface from Graves on Oct. 21 Doomsday

By Elena Garcia | Christian Post Reporter

While President Obama and the rest of the nation spent Memorial Day paying tribute to American veterans, doomsday preacher Harold Camping predicted Monday that corpses of the "unsaved," which includes those in the U.S. armed services, will be flung out of their graves and on the ground like "manure" on October 21.

Camping's comments during the Open Forum program on Family Radio Monday comes one week after he publicly recanted his predicted date of Rapture, changing it from May 21 to October 21.

He has persistently maintained that his dates for a May 21 Judgment Day and a October 21 Doomsday are accurate. The only adjustment in his forecast, according to Camping, is that the judgment on May 21 came in a "spiritual" sense rather than a physical one marked by disasters like earthquakes.

Judgment Day on May 21 did come, asserted Camping. However, he clarified that the Judgment Day arrived in a spiritual sense rather than manifesting in a physical Rapture.

On Monday, a caller asked Camping whether they would see any signs from Deuteronomy 28, beginning with verse 15, fulfilled in the coming End Days. The passage refers to the curse of God for those who disobey his teachings.

"Those who are unsaved are going to experience the curse of God," affirmed Camping, president of Family Radio.

He predicted that whatever of a person's corpse is left in the grave on October 21 "will be thrown out of the grave" and be "like manure on the ground." Furthermore, those who die on October 21 won't receive a burial, said Camping.

"They will be shamed in the eyes of God," he said.

Harold Camping then turned his attention to Memorial Day to further illustrate the gravity of his prediction.
"One of the things that you'll notice at this time of year. We're talking about May 30 and we consider all the graves and all those who have died in connection with the armed services of the United States and there is great respect, great respect for them," he said.

It is very proper for a person to be buried when he dies, acknowledged Camping, but on October 21 those who are "unsaved" will not remain that way.

"On the last day, all the unsaved are going to come under the curse of God. They are going to be thrown out of the grave if there are still a corpse there or bones. If they are in the grave, they will be shamed in the eyes of God. If they die on that day, they're not going to be buried. They're going to be shamed in the eyes of God," Camping predicted.

The radio broadcaster went on to explain that the person himself will never experience any of this since they are dead and no longer have any consciousness.

"But they will be shamed," he reiterated.

The Entire Earth Will Now Be Destroyed on October 21st, 2011

Failed prophet Harold Camping now says that the earth will be totally destroyed on October 21st, 2011.  What really happened on May 21st was an 'invisible spiritual judgement day'.

His new theory is that God decided to spare humanity horrible pain and death through five months of tribulation and now will instead, just kill everyone in one swift move on October 21st.  One minute you will be here, the next you will be fried to a crisp.  Of course, he and 3% of the world's population will be in heaven playing harps on a fluffy white cloud.

This entire episode with Camping should be a reminder to Armstrongites of the same lies that came down from Herbert Armstrong and Rod Meredith in the late 1960's when they predicted that the end times would start in the 1972 and the millennium would start in 1975.  It should also remind Armstrongites that they are all a product of the failed prophecies of William Miller who told the same lie in the 1844.

Armstrongism is currently filled with numerous liars and false prophets.  Rod Meredith, Gerald Flurry, Dave Pack, Ron Weinland, and numerous others.  When will people stop listening to these liars?

Apostle Malm: The Endtime Starts in 2015

Apostle Malm is mocking Harold Camping's current failed prophecy because it was not pronounced by a TRUE COG Apostle like himself.  Then, once the TRUE Apostle makes the truth known you will willingly follow him to Petra.  It will be another test to prove yourself worthy.  First was the Sabbath 'test'. Now it is the Petra 'test'.

Harold Camping says he made a mistake and the rapture will come in late Oct.  Herald is wrong again; there will be no rapture as he describes it.  Instead the faithful will make a personal decision to follow God’s two true prophets to the place that God has prepared.  This will be a conscious, informed decision and will not be forced on anyone.  It will be a test of obedience to God as Abraham was tested in Ur; as Lot was tested at Sodom; as Noah was tested to obey his God.

The great evil that Herald (sic) is doing is much more than temporarily deceiving a few gullible people; It has to do with falsely crying  “wolf” so many times that the real truth is ignored!  The tribulation will come ONLY when ALL the biblical signs are present.  ONLY after the final false prophet has been set up in Rome and revives the Holy Roman Empire [by whatever name].  Only when this abomination goes to the Holy Place will the tribulation begin!  Mat 24:15-21.

What disturbs Apostle Malm so much with Harold's failed prophecy is that people will  now be leery of Apostle Malm or other COG prophets when they pronounce the 'truth.'  People will ignore them too.

So how does Apostle Malm get around the Scripture that blatantly points out to all prophets, that "no man knows the hour?"  I bet you did not know that the people were too stupid in Jesus time to know 'when' but now in these latter days enlightened people like Apostle Malm have that knowledge.

The scripture does say that no man KNEW the day or hour at the time that Jesus Christ was speaking on the earth in the flesh; that does NOT mean or imply that no man will ever know the time.  For it is written that at the very end, the books shall be unsealed and [spiritual] knowledge shall be increased by the unsealing of the prophetic books.

We are then told that the wise SHALL understand!  Dan 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

Apostle Malm also knows the exact year that creation happened.  That is, until those wicked Catholics allowed Ussher to change the date and now the entire world is deceived. Except for Apostle Malm, of course.

As we approached the year 2,000 AD [believed by many to be the year 6,000]  many were concerned about that being a potential time of the end.  In fact a complete 6,000 years must elapse BEFORE the 7th thousand year begins; that means that at the END of the 6th thousandth year or at the beginning of the year 6,001; is when the seventh thousand year begins.

I bring it to your attention that until the Catholic Bishop Ussher decided that creation was in 4004 BC, it was generally recognized that creation was in 3987 BC.  That would make the year 6,001 begin in 2015.

The 2,300 Day Prophecy also falls out to completion with the sanctuary being cleansed in 2,015.

Then like all good Armstrongites he denies he is setting a date but then quickly goes to point out that the false prophet will be set up in Rome in late 2011:

I am presenting this information NOT to set a specific date, but to show the potential for serious end time events in the foreseeable future.  Counting back from the sixth day of Unleavends 2,015;  the 1,290 days of Dan 12, brings us to late 2011 for the setting up of the final false prophet in Rome and his call for a new order in Europe.
Regardless of whether this happens in 2011 or a year or two later; the children of light; the WISE: Shall NOT be taken by surprise!  They are close to their God and have chosen to follow the Lamb instead of following men and their corporations who use the name of Christ to peach a false Christ who would compromise with his Father’s law and tolerate sin out of a false “love” which allows men to rush to their own destruction instead of correcting them.

I guess I better keep my Petra pack by the front door all the time now.  One just never quite knows which prophet will be setting which date.  There seem to be sooooooooooooooooo many of them now.

Andie Redwine: What Happens on May 22?

Andie Redwine reflects on "The Day After May 21" and her experience with the same kind of lies when Herbert Armstrong made a similar prediction.;

Forgive my cynicism, but I’ve been through this before.

I grew up in a church where I was scared to death of Jesus coming back at any moment. Luckily, members of my church were going to be whisked away on the wings of angels to a place of safety while the rest of the world wished that they had heeded the voice of Herbert Armstrong, my cult leader.

I was always afraid that I wasn’t going to be among the faithful. And at six years old, this can be a pretty paralyzing fear.

The people involved in my church weren’t monsters. They weren’t unkind. They weren’t unintelligent. They had just been duped by a false prophet who used fear and mind control techniques to recruit and sustain a large money-making operation. In the name of God, Herbert took well-intentioned seekers of Christ and turned them into devoted followers. Followers of Herbert.

This was before the Internet, but Herbert’s game before religion had been advertising. He created a magazine called The Plain Truth, he had a television show, and he was a prolific author (although a great deal of his work was allegedly plagiarized). And because this was before the Internet, there was very little ability to fact check any of Herbert’s ideas or background.

And he was convincing as hell. In its heyday, Herbert’s Worldwide Church of God centered in Pasadena, California had congregations all over the world. New York. Sydney. Brussels. Bangkok. Amman. Chicago. Philadelphia. London. Paris. He was a go-getter.

Herbert was also an end-times prophet. Growing up under the threat of nuclear war, Herbert offered people a way to escape the coming apocalypse. His way. God’s way.

One of my earliest memories is of sitting in a rented hall listening to Herbert Armstrong. I thought he was God. His voice would be booming through speakers from a cassette tape, but I would be looking at the podium with an empty microphone and just know that God was speaking to me. Everyone around me gave the podium their undivided attention, and so I did likewise. I figured if the adults were taking notes and flipping through their bibles when this man spoke, he must be God.

Jesus didn’t come back the way Herbert had thought. And it was the fault of the congregation. It’s because we weren’t ready. The church had to get back on the right track. We were off course. Sinners in the hands of an angry Herbert, who could direct his ministers to throw us out of God’s church.

We were terrified of this. All of us. Terrified. It was the fear that Herbert created in us to hook us, and it was the fear that kept us coming back for more. If we left, we’d be obliterated. There would be no hope.

Spiritual Deviate Camping Has Disappeared

The London Daily News and IBTimes, San Francisco are reporting that Camping has deserted his followers.  Camping is in hiding after his dramatic, worldwide., public rapture failed to occur. Devastated followers are now taking the brunt of Campings' lies.

Disillusioned: Robert Fitzpatrick, who spent his $140,000 life savings on ads to spread the word of the Rapture, believed that it would happen at 6pm on May 21, but unfortunately for him it didn't

...as 6pm came and went around the world and nothing happened, they were forced to confront reality.'I don't understand why nothing has happened,' baffled believer Robert Fitzpatrick said as he gazed at his watch in New York's Times Square just after 6 pm.

'I did what I had to do. I did what the Bible said.'
The 60-year-old retired transport worker bought $140,000 worth of advertising to help spread Camping's message of doom.

IBTimes News Story

The Human Face of Harold Camping's Cult

The look like a normal family.  A mother and father with beautiful looking children.  The also appear to have some intelligence and education.  Reading a few blurbs about them in the Daily Mail (London) you see a mother and father who believe so deeply in Camping's nonsense that they have the ability to tell their children that they are going to be left behind to suffer through the apocalypse while they (mommy and daddy) are whisked off to heaven for eternal bliss.

One U.S. family in particular will be stunned that the Rapture failed to happen.

Two years ago Robert Carson and Abby Haddad gave up their jobs to preach for the Family Radio church at the centre of the May 21 Judgment Day campaign.

They even told their three children - Joseph, Faith and Grace - that they were going to die.

Speaking to the New York Times, 16-year-old Grace Haddad said: 'My mom has told me directly that I’m not going to get into heaven. At first it was really upsetting, but it’s what she honestly believes.'

Another dedicated follower is Michael Garcia.

After spending months travelling the country to put up Judgment Day billboards and hand out Bible tracts, he planned to spend Friday evening with his family at home in Alameda, near the Christian media empire's Oakland headquarters.

'We know the end will begin in New Zealand and will follow the sun and roll on from there,' said Garcia, a 39-year-old father of six. 'That's why God raised up all the technology and the satellites so everyone can see it happen at the same time.'

Their beliefs are exactly like the silliness that permeates Armstrongism to this day.  Armstrongism still looks at the idea of fleeing to Petra for a final training to be god's and goddesses.  Parents of unbaptized children will be made god's while their kids will be left in Petra to continue to live as mortal human beings.  Unless of course, they have not been killed by the invading armies that hate the true church so much that they nuke the place.  Oh wait, the stupid pagan's can't even do that!  Petra will be covered by a cloud that makes it invisible to airplanes.  That cloud will scramble the radar of planes so no one will ever be able to find Petra.  Sound stupid?  You bet!  That was actual teachings of Armstrongite ministers!

Even the callousness of the parents telling their kids they will not make it is exactly in line with Armstrongism.  We proclaimed the same thing.  Your child's only chance was to have had a prayer said of him/her at the Blessing of the Children service.  If that happened then they at least had a chance!  Otherwise they were doomed.  And, god forbid if you child did not get baptized by 18.  They were immediately destined to the lake of fire.

One WCG minister who left during all the changes wrote a book about his journey out of Armstrongism and into Lutheranism, Misery Synod.  He also made the same claims about his kids.  Because they had not converted to Lutheranism, Misery Synod, they were not going to make it into heaven. Eternally damned, lost, beyond redemption.

What a sad, impotent little god that would cause parents to make such comments to their kids!

48 Hours Left Before the End-times Hits May 21, 6:00 p.m.

There is a little over 48 hours left before you can kiss your a....family goodbye.  Do you have your Petra Pack ready?

Harold Camping has predicted the beginning of the end-times on Saturday, May 21st at 6:00 p.m. exactly..  He and his little band of idiots will be raptured off to heaven while Flurry and his little band of idiots will still be waiting in Edmond.

People have sold their houses, their businesses and left families in order to prepare for this great day.  What is going to happen at 6:05 p.m. Saturday night when they are still sitting on their sofa's? Will Jesus have delayed his coming yet again because people just were NOT ready?

That is what HWA blamed the church for in 1972 when the world did not end according to his plan.  It was the membership's fault because they were not ready!  Gerald Flurry, the certified dingbat Armstrongite in Edmond, OK has predicted the end-times several times now.  They are still parked on their sorry asses in Oklahoma.  Rod Meredith has made so many predictions over the decades that no one pays attention to his silliness anymore.  Well, may Bob Thiel does.  But even Thiel has made his own silly predictions.  2012 anyone?

Harold is just one more in a long line of ministers who are delusional liars.  Sunday, May 22 will prove him wrong.  Camping is a false prophet just like Armstrong, Meredith, Hoeh, Blackwell, Flurry, Cox, Pack, Weinland, and Steven's.

Below are just a few of HWA's and Meredith's false prophecies:

1964 Coworkers letter: "only 7 years before H-bomb warfare breaks out"

Feb 1965: by Meredith: "documented proof Hitler did not die in his bunker"

Nov 30, 1963, coworkers letter: "we have only eight years to finish the Work"; Nov 22, 1963, coworkers letter: "in eight years all of our ministers will be silenced" - religious persecution on WWCG

13 Dec 1965, HWA in co-workers letter: "We are in the grand smash climax - only 6 years left."

1959 PT: "Doom for US within 10-15 years

1934 PT: "Christ will return in 1936

1940 PT: "Christ will come after 3.5 years of tribulation in October 43

1960's PT repeatedly claimed 1972 would be the year of Christ's coming

after 1969: HWA claimed it would be 1975

Gerald Waterhouse continually: if HWA died, God would destroy the world

through 1960's/70's until 1978 in coworkers letters: he & GTA will be two witnesses Zerubbabel and Joshua

January 1955 PT: hoeh: "We face a national catastrophe by 1975.. . we will be totally consumed and carried away captive to other nations as slaves within twenty years." No.

"Why has God called so many construction workers, plumbers and electricians into HIS Church? It is because we are going to build a city for Him in Petra during the three and a half years the Church is protected from Tribulation." - Carn Catherwood at Feast sites as late as the late 1980s.

If Herbert Armstrong dies before the Coming of Christ, he will sleep until the Coming and then be the top ruler of the world under only Christ himself.

It was Hoeh's 1950s "calculations in that ludicrous "Compendium" which convinced him, and, for at least 15 years, Herbert, that Christ would return in 1975 and that the three and a half years of Tribulation would therefore start at Passover 1972.

1982 Coworkers letter: (for those who claim he mellowed with the years) "I hope to arrange for the use of Petra as a possible refuge or place of safety during the Great Tribulation when I see King Hussein. Pray for this please."
