When The Church of The Non-Mentioned God was Only an Extension Program of Ambassador College.....

When reading of the booklets for analysis - the booklet "This is Ambassador College" published by the Ambassador College Press in 1968 and 1969. This was three years before the big 1972 incident. Eleven years into the attempts to fund the Auditorium. Thirteen years since they were pressing forward the idea of the nineteen-year time cycle. Nearly every building was completed - except for the Crown Gem of the campus. And well into the glory years of the Church - just before that scandals of GTA and 1975 were about to rip a gash in the fabric of the Church. This is the background of this submission.

First - some pointed facts of what is NOT in the booklet.

There is ZERO mention or acknowledgement or praise of God, Jesus, the Church, or any hint or semblance of any religious affiliation whatsoever in the growth or the building up of this college.  There is zero mention of any of the traumatic money-pushes that were going on at the exact same time this was published (of course). In fact, you cannot find any hint at all that this college was even religious. It's not there. In fact, the Church behind the college was such a secret at the time that you could not even find where they were meeting,or who the pastors were. Of course, we all know the story behind this - or at least how it was portrayed to the members. It still stands a strong, solid fact: God was absolutely excluded from any part of the founding or the story of Ambassador College. All glory was given only to Herbert Armstrong - for everything.

Here we see the "Business aspects" that claimed help Herbert start Ambassador College and the Church. This is actually very good information to what Herbert was learning behind the scenes - once you take off the religious charade that cloaked what he was learning and doing.

He traveled all over the country, it says, interviewing business owners, and executives - millionaires  - searching out "ideas that had been successfully used by businessmen", gathering material for the Trade Journal. He was also internalizing this material for his own benefit - storing the advice and material wisdom from some of the brightest - and wealthiest - men of that generation.

Notice what this work involved. He had to literally question businessmen (and Herbert must have been in his glory here) to learn "the reasons for the success of the few and the failure of the many". The definition of success here, of course, was financial success - becoming "an important person", as he so often says he strove with all of his energy to be. He did many surveys to learn the psychology of why people buy what they buy, and spend what they spend. He was able to learn the act of marketing - how to sell a product, and to determine what needs to be said to what group of people to merchandise - to get them to buy whatever product people are trying to sell. Sales was an art form - and he was in a position to learn and employ every psychological formula to cause people to want to buy ANYTHING.

The wealth of information that he learned - make no mistake about this - was WORLDLY. He spent time classifying and analyzing all types of people and knew exactly what to write, in his ads, or say, in person, to convince a person that they needed a product - desperately. This knowledge would have cost much money to learn in a college environment. Herbert had the chance to learn these worldly ways directly from the ones who have used them the best. The Autobiography clearly states the financial advice he got in regards to money was advice he took with him for his entire life - employed and used in business, by a businessman.

Here, it is very obvious what Herbert was trying to do: Mix, as a hybrid, the worldly ways of financial success with the Bible as he saw it. This, in my view, is how he approached scripture. He allowed the worldly laws of finance and business to rule over the spiritual laws of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

It is BUSINESS that employed the top-down model of government. It is BUSINESS that employed the strict, dictatorial, my way of the highway approach that he used. It is BUSINESS that determined the ministerial policies of strong-handedness among the "management". The only way that he knew how to run a business was to run everything as a business - even if it was supposed to be "God's True Church".

It was business that caused Herbert Armstrong to use sales product pitches in every co-worker letter to obtain finances. It was business in the way he organized the very structure of every division. And it was as a businessman, and a boss, in how he viewed the baptized members of the Church - and the co-workers as an arm of funding.

The fruits of what happened are exactly what you would expect from a business, not a church.

Scandals. Debauchery. Immorality, Contentiousness. Power Struggles. Deceit. Lies. When you understand that the Worldwide Church of God was merely an "Extension Program" of Ambassador College - the fundraising arm through tithes, and offerings, under a pretense of religion - and you see clearly that all this was going on while the Church was fully deceiving it's membership as a means to an end - it begins to put every puzzle piece together.

Let me emphasize this once again for clarity.

Mention of God? Zero.
Mention of Jesus? Zero.
Mention of the Church? None.

This was intentional - until changed by Garner Ted in the 1970s, in an attempt to make the church "more visible" - and eventually, after everything was accomplished and completed as far as the master plan of the college goes - when nothing else was to be gained - the Church did become more visible, and the name of the Church was added to the World Tomorrow Program. But you did not find this happening until after the fact - when there was a massive shift from fundraising and establishing to simply maintaining.

Herbert was a pioneer in strategically using a worldly business model to combine with a religious organization to create the appearance of a Church. And without any doubt whatsoever - he used fully worldly, fully carnal, fully business-like methods to accomplish this task - using the business training he received from successful businessmen to do so.

When people joined into his "Church", they entered into a reverse business.

Instead of getting paid, they paid the business. Instead of getting health benefits, their health was taken away. Instead of getting support from the ministers, they were chastized. Instead of the ministers seeing themselves as servants, they saw themselves as bosses

Once they got you in their business, then the psychological training was on.

You were told if you left the Church, you would lose the business benefits. Which were:

  • A Security Detail that would Protect You from the Outside Wolves
  • The Office of a High-Ranking Manager in the World-Ruling Government
  • A Pioneer in a World-Ruling Government
  • A Yearly Vacation in a Business Conference, Which is paid by You, not the Corporation
  • Mandatory weekly training sessions

Or, you could be terminated from the business by:

  • Failure to comply with the Standards and Practices of the Organization
  • Failure to pay dues as required by the Organization
  • Failure to follow the Code of Conduct required by the Organization
  • Disloyalty to the organization, or to it's management
  • Failure to follow the Corporate Dress Code
  • Self-Interpretation of Business Law or Dissemination Thereof to other members
  • Failure to adhere with the Policies of the Organization
  • Insubordination of Managers within the Corporation
In addition, you agreed to:

  • Follow orders without question, every time
  • Refrain from grumbling, complaining in any measure
  • Maintain the highest level of productivity and efficiency within the organization
  • Forego any "union" representation
  • Refrain from personal interpretation of the Master Code of Regulations used by the Corporation
  • Agree to not participate in the activities of the competition
  • Agree to non-disclosure on corporate material to the competition; instead referring them to Management
  • Agree to on-call, twenty-four hour service as required by Management
  • Agree to pay for any business projects beyond dues as requested when required out of pocket
  • Agree to zero compensation at all times
  • Agree to a lifetime, irrevocable membership unless terminated by Managers
In the event you revoked your membership:

  • You forfeited all rights, privileges, rank, and fellowship with the Corporation or other members of the Corporation, without eligibility of rehire, unless reinstated by the Management upon intent of compliance with the Polices, Standards, and Procedures of the Corporation.
In addition. You would be, according to the policies of the Church, convinced:

  • You forfeited all spiritual, eternal, everlasting cohesion inside the mortal Universe, and as punishment for the Crime of Rebellion against the Corporation, you would be supernaturally obliterated into absolute nothingness as if you have never been, on the sole whim and judgement of the Managers of the Corporation.

"This Is Ambassador College" seemed to be absolutely EMBARRASSED a religious organization was behind it. About as embarrassed was as Herbert was to go to Kings and Prime Ministers and completely leave Jesus and his first coming out of it.

Herbert Armstrong took all the glory for the business with this booklet. God and Jesus got none. And this - 3 years before "1972" - all while deceiving the membership about what was to come - and here you see the College - and the Church - for exactly what it was. A worldly enterprise with an Extension Program,  a "Church" as its main fundraising arm somehow not even mentioned here - with the most worldly senior management you could imagine running the whole business.

God wasn't in this.

Also, seriously, I'm being totally literal here.

GOD was NOT in this.

That's quite a summation....but hits "the nail on the head"...too bad so many of us sheeples
weren't knowledgeable enough to catch on to this scam. But then HWA knew our basic vulneral-
ablities. Our weak spots. As it is in SALES...you don't sell the steak...you sell the "sizzle". the proverbial "Swan Song"? And to help him pull this off we had WWII , the "Cold War" etc. And of course the Cuban Bay of Pigs fiasco. All seemed "tailor made" to influence so many. I sure was, sad to say. :-( MUCH older now, hopefully somewhat wiser.?

What About The Truth said...

The statement from the church that Ambassador taught people how to live and not just earn a living was a mantra repeated often. The church said that Ambassador graduates ended up earning more than a person attending an accredited college because of their "how to live" education. How true that was I don't know.

Did HWA's understanding of the missing dimension in education guarantee success? It could be easily argued that just physically keeping the ten commandments would give one success in life and in their job and that information can be found in the nearest bible or the church on the corner.

Ultimately, the big question to ask and ponder upon is; how much success should the church entity and the membership strive for and have before the Kingdom actually comes? Did God intend for multi-million dollar headquarter campuses and the teaching of its membership to earn as much as you can so you can help the "work" out more effectively? Jesus Christ taught that it was harder for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. HWA taught and the splinters as well that following the laws of success would make a person materially successful. Jesus Christ said when he returns; "will I find faith on earth"? Most materially successful people don't have faith because they don't have to practice faith. How does the successful effort to accumulate material goods compare to Jesus Christ's judgement of the Laodicean church who was "rich and increased with goods and had need of nothing"?

HWA was guilty of impatiently building his own kingdom ahead of Christ. Dave Pack is guilty of the same as is Gerald Flurry. These men with their built kingdom as a backdrop have heaped to themselves biblical titles and riches. Where is the need to seek Christ and HIS Kingdom?

The missing dimension in education didn't come from polls and expert salesmanship, it comes from one source, and that source was definitely missing from the Ambassador brochure.

HWA's "questioning businessmen" seems a lot like what Napoleon Hill claimed to have done. And "Seven Laws of Success" sounds similar to "13 Steps to Riches", which was the working title of "Think and Grow Rich".

NO2HWA and SHT said in reference to the booklet, "This is Ambassador College", "There is ZERO mention or acknowledgement or praise of God, Jesus, the Church, or any hint or semblance of any religious affiliation whatsoever in the growth or the building up of this college."

MY COMMENT - And let's not forget that during the 1960s hyper-growth period of the Worldwide Church of God and the Armstrong movement, The World Tomorrow broadcast introduction by announcer Art Gilmore made no reference to a Church either. If I remember correctly, Mr. Gilmore's introduction was "The World Tomorrow! Ambassador College presents Garner Ted Armstrong bringing you the plain truth of today's world news and the prophecies of the world tomorrow."

You know, I just happened to realize that, to my knowledge, nowhere in that brochure does it mention that AC was not accredited, which meant that you could not use going there on your resume. It meant nothing. Am I right on this?

90 percent of international areas would forbid religious broadcasting. Europe was 100 percent under government control.

In britain american music was forbidden. (imdb the boat that rocked)

If accepted rcg would have been programmed between established religious broadcast on unfavorable time slots.

In south and middle america wcg was not allowed to operate until 1990.

The entire WORK was under the ac branch. Then Aicf was introduced as another part of the work to boldly go where no one had gone before.....

A lot of the international work money flow came from the Canadian work. International broadcasting usually directly from the states under AC. Otherwise it would have been rejected by most governments. The work to governments went through Aicf.

Unfortunately wcg mediaoperations, the church, talented ac graduates in local churches, aicf did not seem to synchronize or coordinate.

Most directors were unprofessional and kings over their own little kingdom it seems. Very ineffective management for one of the worlds largest media efforts.

Although when bbdo was introduced I felt the money was spent more efficiently but the wcg spirit was gone under the tkaxh years. Comparing preachermen with teleprompters.

Funny thing is that "Grace laden community international" operates under ambassador college license still in for instance great britain.

Ultimate irony.

You left out the pirate ships broadcasting to Europe. I recall Britain refusing to play American music because they demanded a fee for every song played. The dispute didn't last long.

There was certainly no problem getting airtime in Australia and New Zealand. And I remember reading the hype made about one Australian television networks going wild over the quality of the GTA television program.

@Hoss,

I'm sure old Herbie probably did plagiarize some of his material for the 7 Laws of Success from Napoleon Hill. After all Mr. Hill's works were out around the time HWA was starting his ministry. I don't think HWA ever had an original idea as he copied the works of the SDA, CoG 7th Day, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, etc. I've read some of the works of Napoleon Hill and I still have a copy of the Laws of Success, and it looks to me that you may be right that Herbie got some of his ideas from Mr. Hill's book. Some of the things he says kind of matches what Napoleon Hill says in his books, kind of like how the US and British Commonwealth in Prophecy is almost identical to J.H. Allen's book Judah's Sceptre and Joseph's Birthright. This man has never had an original idea. HWA was quite the salesman, he suckered a lot of people to buy the crap he was selling.

Herb had Napoleon Hill’s books in his library and in the basement safe. The college bookstore also sold his book.

According to the Painful Truth, Herb plagiarised the "give way and the get way" from Gautama Buddha. I noticed that Dennis Diehls photo is on their Hall of shame. They mention that they removed his name (but not his pic) because of his repented 'good works.'

Nck. How many people would know what your 'imdb the boat that rocked' means?
For a fan and apologist of Herb, you seem to know little about marketing.

"HWA was quite the salesman, he suckered a lot of people to buy the crap he was selling."

100%.

Some salesman get you into schemes like flipping houses, real estate, encyclopedias - vacuum cleaners. Since none of these things were potent in the years of the Depression and post war recovery, universal real estate reconstruction under a religious context - an absolutely intangible carrot in front of the horse - was what he sold - as the backbone of every other project he conceived of. It was all 100 percent rooted in pure iniquity.

nck is a horrible communicator...one of the worst I've come across on this blog. He seems incapable of expressing himself coherently.

Hello. Tens of millions of people visit the imdb website for movie information. You show yourself "aged" but worse ignorant of cross checking on the many "keywords" I have provided over the years for sources.

I am not here to market any perspective. I provide "keywords" for research on more data for those interested. So far only 2 people googled some of what I said. I'd say 99,99 percent of visitors here are not interested in real data but only snippets taken out of context. Which probably distorted their tenure in armstrongism anyway.

For instance the "rooted in pure iniquity" remark by sht. For objective readers he puts down all religion and quite frankly the entire human experience and all imagination that is part of that.

I am not marketing hwa. I just disagree with most interpretation and travesty by many commenters of general principles that go for most major religions. Like focussing on supposed not legally proven sexual misconduct by one person, while churches with billions of members are making headlines every day with millions of proven cases. I m just observing. Not even taking sides. Let alone marketing them.

nck said...

HWA said about ten thousand times that " he found the truth" but the people who had it were not selling it. Or presenting it in unatractive manner. Plagiarism was not a concept until the 1970's. The problem lies with the split offs and members who stuck to the attractive copy writing but failed to research deeper meanings and concepts.

Those disgruntled are like the fat people blaming coca cola for putting sugar in a drink that is a generally refreshing drink on occasion.

True. I have stated many times that I communicate that way on purpose to save time in order to sift out those that are just here for reasons of fun, are superficial, or those that wish to see me as a the new leader of the hwa apologist movement, I am neither.

UNTIL a person asks, "Hey this "boat that rocked thingy or Rader speaking to the entire Philipine Junta on Agricultural reform or wcg taking a 20 year lease for the auditorium while seemingly preaching "the end of the world", or this thing on the GII escorted by Syrian and Israeli Jets flying through the Jordan valley on either side of its wings, or Japanese elites flying to Kuwait and South America and South Africa could you elaborate on that? UNTIL that happens I am content with the observing general comments on this fun blog.

Or the significance of getting Dr Singh 10.000 AICF dollars of airlift to Japan in light of UN, Indian - Japanese relations in light of decolonisation, the Tokyo war tribunal and dissenting opinions and the post war American Empire.

40 percent of reactions to my postings are complaints that I am an apologists, 20 percent of reactions to my comments are a misrepresentations and the rest are not interested in further research just comment on my deliberately faulty grammar. Only perhaps once or twice did I get a question. So my strategy has saved me a lot of time elaborating to those that are not interested anyway.

"Legally proven sexual misconduct?" I am not aware that a trial was held was to prove or disprove the accusation. I recall reading a lengthy article by a twenty year veteran of the legal system. He detailed from first hand experience how the legal procedures are partial towards criminals.
First we have ministers foist upon us a alternative reality called church-world or Herb-world, and now we have Nck trying to foist upon us another alternate reality called Legal-world. As they say in the pop corn movies, you're in our world now.

The veteran is right. This is intentionally so to protect from witchhunts like the Salem trialsl ilk or "trials by internet hearsay from supposed reliable sources" which is the same.

So yes good article by the veteran lawyer.

The allegedly significant activities of HWA, as reported by nck, are simply part of HWA's pantomime or facade that he put on to give credence to his scam, and to keep the money rolling in. Under the broken clock model, some accidental good stuff even happens in a scam situation.

For those inclined to give Herbie a pass on his gross perversion of the father-daughter role, a lot more is being done with the legal system with much less, as anyone who is monitoring this Judge Kavanaugh thing must surely realize.

This might be a fun blog for nck, but the greater opportunity provided is for deceived and exploited people to learn the truth which can set them free.
