Redemption follows not a change of body, but a change of heart.

In other words --"The Gospel of Jesus has to be manipulated and massaged, to SELL people the goods". Nonsense, and not a Christian approach IMHO.

"A ring of sincerity", even if you have to fake it. HWA was sure good at that, pretending to be a godly minister, qualified according to I Tim 3.

The only thing Herbert Armstrong "massaged and manipulated" was Jesus being written out of everything, just like he is in all the splinter groups today.

Don't forget that one of the reasons the Scarboroughs left was because LCG started preaching about Jesus. Did not last for long though. Outside of Passover - where I assume all the ACOGs read from the same chapters- most of the time is on other subjects.

All Jesus was to the ACOG's was the messenger who gave a message.

All the priority was on Herbert Armstrong, who revived the 1900 year message that somehow Jesus wasn't influential enough to keep going. But wait! Jesus would come back to accomplish everything when He returns that Herbert claimed he never accomplished the first time around - even though the Bible was clear what He had accomplished.

Now that Herbert's gone, that message he built his empire on has evaporated as fast as his college did. The current splinter crop out there is weaker than the "Sardis" churches that preceded him.

The only reason hwa put down "worldly psycologists" (don't get me wrong, there are some bad ones out there, but there are also very good psycologists who know what they are doing and what they are talking about) is because if we sought help from them, they would see right through what armstrong was doing. Armstrong couldn't have us knowing the truth about his business.

Oh, I should have added that to have sessions with a psycologist is money that "should" be sent to armstrong. Just like paganizing Christmas...he certainly couldn't have members and co-workers spending money on gifts and trips to visit family when that money should go to "the work" (hwa).

FFS
Scientology among others, also opposes psychology because it gives a map of reality different to their own religion. Anything or anyone who lowers the power they have over their membership is rejected and vilified.

This trait is discernable in the raw when king Herod killed many male children under two years of age in order to protect his power. Some things don't change.
