Gerald Weston: Bahama's Destroyed Because They Won't Go To The Feast of Tabernacles?

It is Feast time in Church of God land and of course Satan is on a rampage to keep the chosen frozen of the COG from going to their selected resorts.

LCG's god is constantly testing the remaining members to see who is with the program and who is not.  Thus, he lets Satan rampage around the world using hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, volcano's and more in order to keep COG members from going to the Feast.  Of course, the god of Armstrongism always makes sure the Feast sites are OK and COG members can play and have fun while those in Bermuda and else where are suffering horrendously with death and destruction.

This is the kinds of bullshit that comes from Armstrongite cult leaders that refuse to follow Jesus and the New Covenant.

At least there is one positive note to what is written below.  There is no mention of gay sex.
Greetings from Charlotte,
The big news in the Caribbean and Southeastern United States this week was Hurricane Dorian.
The destruction the category 5 monster produced by sitting on top of the Bahamas for two dayswas immense. The fear and uncertainty experienced by its residents from howling winds and rising waters tearing structures apart must have been horrific. I’m sure many cried out to God hour after terrifying hour. But, the people of the Bahamas are not the only ones to experience such storms. The Philippines experiences an average of eight or nine typhoons (cyclones) a year, and it seems that every part of the world has some natural phenomenon to deal with: earthquakes, tornados, blizzards and freezing temperatures, or scorching heat. As pointed out in the booklet Acts of God, Why Natural Disasters?, God allows these things to remind us of our need for Him, and the time is coming when He will protect His obedient children from such disasters. However, even at the beginning of the Millennium, He will use the weather to grab the attention of nations that refuse to come up to Jerusalem to worship Him and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
Meanwhile, we held a worldwide online ministerial conference this past Wednesday, in which Mr. Ames, Dr. Winnail, and I updated the ministry on a number of administrative matters. Tomorrow’s World Presentations are scheduled this Sabbath for Montreal, Quebec; Birmingham, United Kingdom; Lansing, Michigan; and Raleigh, North Carolina. I’m scheduled to be in Wisconsin for a Regional Conference. Your prayers for those impacted by these catastrophic weather events and for our efforts to preach the Gospel are much appreciated.—Gerald Weston

All Nations will Worship the King
Zech 14:16

16 Then all the survivors from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 And should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, the rain will not fall on them.…" "allows things to remind us of our need for Him"? and promises a time, always yet to come, when he will protect his "obedient children", screw everyone else?

This Deity is a psychopath who needs to be worshipped, adored, praised, revered and feared.

The hint of this deviant kind of personality was "You shall have no other gods before ME. For I , the Lord YOUR God am a jealous God."

Plainly translated it better reads "You shall not bring any other gods into my presence. (This was a polytheistic society at the time written and there were many other gods), for I the Lord YOUR God am a jealous God."

The God that tries to get our attention, withholds rain for not going to holydays (wouldn't you love an audience of people bitter over that kind of control and threats to family and friends?) and only protects his own is just as full of what the NT lists as Vanity, Jealousy, lust (for power and control) and greed (bring in all the tithes to the storehouse) in unacceptable humans.

Going to the Feast out of fear of retribution for not is obscene theology and the sign of a deviant personality. It doesn't exactly make an attentive, happy or "best Feast ever" crowd either I'd imagine.

Clergy should listen to their own words and ask if what they just said sounds remotely sane, logical or encouraging.

This verse and concept is rather creepy. Reminds me of the sign on the barn just south of Greenville that said, "Love Jesus or Burn forever in Hell" May as well be "Sweetie, Come give Daddy a kiss or I"ll kill you"

What kind of a God is this that "tries to get our attention"?,

Weston says:
"Your prayers for those impacted by these catastrophic weather"
After just saying it's God who is dishing out the bad weather!
The man is contradictory - just like much of Armstrong-Theology!

PS It is this kind of a God with these kinds of traits that is responsible for the LOSS of faith in humans. Threats don't build faith. Death and destruction for disobedience don't build faith. Not showing up or intervening, obviously and often, does not build faith. Not remotely doing what this God promises to do destroys faith. Unanswered prayers and communication with the Deity do not build faith. Telling people who pray that they don't get answers because they "ask amiss" does not build faith. (Always the humans fault), Calling them scoffers for noticing that which is promised "soon" but is never soon enough destroys faith.
Putting one closer to poverty for giving and the windows of heaven stay shut does not build faith.

Exercising faith often destroys it. This would be the fault of the Deity and not those who don't actually lack it, but simply see no results in having it.

Gerald Weston and all the COG ministry are stuck in their memes and theological boxes which are too small to accommodate reality.

Don't throw God out with the polluted Armstongite drinking water Dennis C Diehl.
Are you not allowing yourself to be limiting God to the closed box that this present society of religion have put God in ?
Who decreed that Gerald Weston knows Gods thoughts on the bad weather? When did God speak to him ? When did God ever speak to any modern religious leaders?
Has not regurgitated Armstrongisim brought many to the place where God is perceived as an angry spiteful dicator. Where doing good is despised and perceived as weakness and doing wrong to others desired and perceived as high intelligence.

The fruits of the spirit have been looked down on, for nerds and imbeciles. Yet the fruits of the spirit are a reflection of God's Holy spirit.

1John 4:8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Dennis can rant all he wants. God blesses me, protects me, and answers my prayers. So I'm very happy with my God.

As 4.51 AM points out, Dennis fails to differentiate between biblical Christianity and today's flawed and visibly Pharisaic Christianity. The bible does instruct to prove well things, rather than blindly believe what's dished out by religious leaders.

well, this is one of the more misleading headlines I've seen on this site...it's a if you are simply looking to complain about something a COG has said, and I think that's the case. ....nothing in the material supports that headline.

and Dennis, written like a true Satanist there buddy.

this used to be a fun blog, but it's been getting less anti-COG and more anti-God......and that's sad. (but I guess it is your true colors showing)

Gerald wrote: "...God allows these things to remind us of our need for Him, and the time is coming when He will protect His obedient children from such disasters..."
Gerald, driven, like that other Gerald...Flurry, by another spirit, preaches another Jesus with another gospel. Those who are obedient? The Geralds believe in earning salvation by works of SELF: obey, do "good," pray for others... what? Where were prayers before the hurricane struck? How effective are prayers?
And Hid testing us? How stupid! God knows if He tested us we would fail.
He already has His plan to save humanity, 2 Cor 5:19, and ultimately destroy Satan and his angels (2 Per 2:12; Matt 25:41, 46), but God must do it. Geralds aren't in the salvation equation to save themSELVES, and time will tell...

That is, Diehl's kind of god. Most of what Dennis relates is "spin." This spin is just as invalid as the Armstrongist spin about the feast sites being protected. Nobody knows when god intervenes in weather. I believe that god mostly does not intervene in weather or the many other tragedies that befall mankind - this is not his world.

I believe Weston has it essentially right: "the time is coming" when god will protect people from storms. Weston makes no great claims for what happens today. (I do not mean to endorse Weston's overall religious philosophy.) Weston's view is much more reasonable and considered than Diehl's ranting and hyperbolic counterpoint.

Dennis is just coming across as incredibly bitter, resentful and even hateful. The COGs don't speak for God Dennis. So your words are a thinly veiled attack instead of insightful commentary.

Obviously LCG is ridiculous but you seem to find every opportunity spread your hate of God when your anger should be directed towards men.

I hope you find peace and LCG is humbled... Maybe through mass exodus a very biblical teaching method.

COGWA's Caribbean Director counts this as the fourth hurricane to wreck the Bahamas in four years (although his explanation actually makes it four in five years).

What did that country do, to merit all of this?

In this comment I address postings and comments that appear to be damaging to Biblical believers and the Christian faith more than they are to correct the destructive flaws pointed out in the people or organizations being pointed to. While I recognize there are a lot of things in the Biblical scriptures that can not be explained through normal reasoning the messages they have reveal a God that wants human life to learn how to live a life that would be enjoyed eternally.
Whether a person believes in the biblical God or not there are certain standards that are needed for every human being to avoid the wars and fighting and separations that make life miserable and unenjoyable. A continual focus on people that are or have created miserable and unenjoyable lives in others will not contribute to changes by broadcasting them worldwide without defining how to adjust life in a manner that reflects a perfect life.
With that I will mention that a person who truly believes in God will be able take the things in this life that cause miserly and pain up to the day they are standing at deaths door without fear and peacefully die when the day comes. I am not sure that a person without God would give up life peacefully. ASB

There's no right to privacy when it comes to criminal behavior. The many accounts of peoples sins in the bible is proof of this.
You trivialize the often serious and permanent damage experienced by church members with your "people that have created miserable and unenjoyable lives."
Your comment is in sync with these churches definition of love, which includes every manner of definition excerpt the core one, which is that every life is precious.
Repeating, love means life is precious, so injure or harm no person.

Byker Bob said...

Right on, Feastgoer! To merit that level of destruction, the Bahamians would have to be an utterly evil penal colony that had overthrown and murdered the warden and all the officers, practiced human sacrifice, went crazy on all manner of drugs, blasphemed God, forced bisexuality on all the residents, and practiced cannibalism!

It is much more logical to rely on the proven science of weather cycles or possibly even climate change to explain the carnage. The Bahamas were always known as a sort of paradise, an exquisite vacation spot, safe, and civilized. I remember my grandparents vacationing there when I was a young boy, and bringing home souvenirs for all of us, regaling us with tales of their adventures, and sharing many photos.

Let's not even mention that comparing hurricanes today with those 100 years ago is very inaccurate because our methods of measuring wind speeds have greatly improved.

A listed cat 4 hurricane 100 years ago could have been a cat 5 for all we know.

Much like measuring earth temperature over 100 years ago was not as exact a science as it is today. Today our thermometers record the actual high and low temps for the day, back then they had to be observed. What if they weren't observed at the actual days high or low?

Not to mention that the accuracy of mercury thermometers is +-.5 - 1°c.

So the claim that earth has warmed 1°c since 1750 is based upon bullshit science!

Just google "how much has the earth warmed" if you question this.

There was no intention in trivializing the actions of people who have been defined as the source damaging church members permanently or at all. The point was that broadcasting was not the solution in fact it would add burden to burden to a person's suffering if they carry this hatred the rest of their life. Your statement that "love means life is precious, so injure or harm no person' is useless when a person has already been injured or harmed. Those who share a true Christian faith should be able to work out a way to eliminate hatred and reflect a love that shows God's love. ASB

"And all the polar ice melt is just a bizarre coincidence."

Ahhhh, the polar ice caps are going because of a supposed 1°c rise in temp? Here I thought there might be another reason. If we're even being told the truth about what's going on.

Anonymous said...

Is polar ice melt because of global warming or because of an increase in the last 20 years of arctic flights and fuel dumping?

As far as I'm concerned, failing to affirm a crime and its consequences by using sanitized language, is trivializing both.
You offer no support for your claim that broadcasting a crime increases the victims suffering. Why then do victims frequently publically step forward? Why are crimes reported in the news? How can a community support its victims otherwise. I can think of no biblical support of your claim, but many to the contrary.

All evil people have a negative self image, which includes self hatred, so how can hatred be inherently wrong?

Taking a cheap shot at my point that all life is precious, says it all about your post and character.

It's a bully trait to try to suppress the natural consequences of their crimes. They want to do wrong and get off scot free. This is common behavior with ACOG ministers and their minions. This seems to be the whole point of your post.

I can't help noticing that so called climate change parallels the behavior of toxic parents. In a toxic home, members have to walk on eggs shells, hide their faults and surrender to unjust demands. They are beaten down with toxic shame, which claim that they are inherently bad at their core. It's the same vile garbage on a international level. Power lust being the motive.

In the past decades, we’ve experienced two catastrophic anthropogenic processes. One was the ozone depletion over Antarctica, resulting in a hole in the ozone layer. Through samples and measurements, scientists were able to determine that the widespread usage of chloroflurocarbons (freon, an air-conditioning agent invented in the 1930s) was causing the breakdown of ozone through a complex chemical reaction producing chlorine in the ionosphere. Internationally, the scientists were listened to and heeded. I have an old can of R-12 refrigerant setting on the table in front of me as I write this. Through the Montreal Protocol of August 26, 1987, R-12 was banned and began to be phased out. The price tag on the can indicates that it sold for $1.97. This can could be left over from my ‘83 Mustang 5.0 GT which was one of my toys during the 1990s. I remember replacing the air conditioner clutch on the compressor, and some of the seals in the lines. And then recharging.

My point is, through the banning of R-12, and further development of safer air conditioning compounds, the ozone layer was stabilized sometime during the 1990s, and will return to 1980 levels by 2050. So, man can affect the ionosphere with products and processes used in our modern lifestyles.

Greenhouse gasses, like CFCs, are scientifically measurable. Prior to the CFC scare, the very damaging nature of another product was discovered by scientists, and caused considerable controversy. That product was Tetraethyl Lead, a very toxic poison added to all gasoline from the 1920s through the 1970s. Gradually, it was removed from the gasoline supply. Powerful parties who derived huge profits from both these products fought the science, but eventually succumbed to the massive accumulation of evidence, and the tide of public opinion turning against them.

Republicans in the USA are the last bastion of deniers of anthropogenic climate change. Some within our own automotive and oil industries are now openly defying our Republican president as the international tide of public opinion turns in favor of implimenting strong measures to reverse the climate change. We’re right on the cusp of that, just as we were with Tetraethyl Lead in the 1970s, and Chlorofluorocarbons in the late 1980s. It’s just a shame that these processes get drawn out and end up wasting so much time, largely because of politics.

10:33am Of course it's politics but if it was really an emergency why is your motorcycle not electric? Why do so many who claim to be "Green" buying carbon credits so they can burn more than their share?

Why is China, India, and many smaller developing countries not cutting back? They claim they are but they really aren't.

Like China, at home they're putting on the Green charade, but they are in full force building coal burning plants in neighboring countries. Do you want to make a bet on where those electric lines from Bangladesh, Vietnam or Thailand are going?

Two cylinder motorcycles emit much less than cars. When I ride the bike on an errand, instead of driving my car, I’m actually leaving a smaller carbon footprint. Also, I keep the bike highly tuned.

Harley Davidson is just beginning to release their Live Wire electric motorcycles . They have a 75 hp motor that will propel the bike at 95mph. It is the most revolutionary bike in motorcycle history.

By the way, as a private citizen, I have no access to carbon credits, but I understand that it’s a way of making smaller companies that can’t afford expensive green technology competitive with the big megabucks corporations that have already done so. It’s one of the temporary aspects of the green revolution designed into the system to bring everybody through the curve. It’s actually a good thing that radical right-wingers have made into a boogeyman.

And, no, I’m not a fan of AOC, although I think she’s kinda cute.

8:04pm, Rationalize, Rationalize, Rationalize all that you want, you could take a bus for your errand and emit much less than a motorcycle, but there goes the convenience. Is it your responsibility to determine how much convenience I need to give up? That's the problem. Al Gore justifies his buying carbon credits for his jet trips because "He's such an important person".

You've claimed to be "balanced" in previous posts but you are far from balanced. If you really cared for the planet as you say, and sincerely believe that CO2 is destroying it, you should be willing to give up your convenience even if another of the "stupid ones" refuses to.

The problem is that you really don't care any more than Al Gore cares. Else you'd be living it to drastic measures, rather than just running your mouth trying to force your opinions on others.

You probably think that you're just doing it for everyones own good, funny how I remember a large church in the past forcing people to recant Christ or die, for their own good, after all they knew more than those "stupid ones".

You are directing the readers of this blog to an obviously partisan site, and most likely don’t even realize it.

Had you referenced the NASA site, or something of similar quality, I might have felt compelled to read the entire piece. When you post a site like Wattsup, it’s the moral equivalent of telling us to listen to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. We speak of confirmation bias with regards to Armstrongism, and laugh at their “proof-texting”. Why can’t you recognize those things in other types of “research”. I already told you I don’t rely on Al Gore or Rush, or for that matter the Democrats or Republicans for my information on climate change, and neither should you.

BB, I challenge you to listen to Rush Limbaugh every day, three hours a day, non stop for a month. I'm sure you've listened to snippets, but most who hate him have never really listened.

First, I don't agree with everything that he says. Second, he's a shock jock, no doubt about it, but that doesn't mean he's wrong about everything.

You think that I don't know how to qualify research, what a laugh when you admit that you only listen to one side. What you think to be the "balanced" middle "side". I'm sure that you think NASA is middle of the road on Global Warming and that's where you err. Why do so many liberals claim to be middle of the road? It's hilarious. They call us the "stupid ones" all while thinking they're the tolerant, open minded ones. When they're only tolerant and open to those who agree with them. You're a hoot.

I strive to listen to both sides, I listen to Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Rachel Maddow, etc. etc. so why are you not listening to Rush.

Talk about confirmation bias. You're a......

Byker Bob said...

Been there, done that. I did listen to Rush every day for several years back in the ‘90s, when he was relatively new and fresh. Ultimately, especially after meeing numerous of his self-professed “dittoheads” as I went about my daily business activities, I began to realize that he was nothing less than a dangerous propaganda demagogue who collected mindless zombies who would go around spouting Rushisms all day as if that were the most profound stuff they had ever heard. I also listened to NPR, read Rolling Stone, and Mother Jones, as well as subscribing to Ebony Magazine. Eclectic. But you already know all of this from our past encounters.

Admit it, you are just a shit stirrer, you bring very superficial propaganda into our discussions, and usually after about four or five of your comments, I realize who you are, and end up pulling the plug because I see that you are once again wasting all of our time in pseudo-debate rather indulging in in real factual and substantial discussion.
