LCG: Modern Misguided Leaders In The World? What About In The Church, Too?

Doug Winnail was bemoaning misguided leadership in the nation last week, but I have to wonder if he is also bemoaning the misguided leadership of the LCG, also?

Like many COG leaders, he has to look backward to search out events in the Bible that fit his modern world narrative. If he finds it, voila! Prophecy in action! Today's event is foretold in scripture!

If Winnail and other Christians who have faith in God, the Bible, and biblical values are firmly believed, no amount of questioning by atheists and agnostics would damage one's faith. In fact, being around an agnostic is usually far more enlightening when discussing the Bible because at least they admit they don't know, while the Bible believers think they know everything when in fact they know very little, too.

Where are there any "servants of God" in a Church of God who are "crying aloud" to the leaders and nations of the world?  Where are they? Even Bob Thiel is not doing such a thing, let alone Gerald Weston!  These guys envision themselves like Herbert Armstrong, and yet he never cried aloud to the world. He traipsed around talking about a "strong hand from someplace" and handed out expensive gifts attempting to buy favor. What witness has any of these nations ever received? How have any of them changed? Even Herbert's own church is a malignant cesspool of sin and corruption. NO COG out there is in any position to criticize the world around them when they are in far worse shape.

Yes, you HAD a job to do and have failed miserably!

Modern Misguided Leaders: Some of the strongest condemnations by Hebrew prophets were against the leaders of Israel “who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture” and “cause My people to err by their lies” (Jeremiah 23:1–2, 13, 32). Few today realize that these prophecies are dual, and that their ultimate fulfillment will impact modern Israelite nations and their leaders at the end of the age. It is no coincidence that today not only atheists and agnostics are attacking belief in God, the Bible, and biblical values that have been part of the foundation of Western civilization, but also liberal leaders in schools, churches, governments, and the media. As a result of the seeds sown by these attacks on fundamental biblical concepts and values and “forgetting our Maker” we are reaping the whirlwind of confusion, immorality, and social chaos that was prophesied long ago (Hosea 8:7, 14). This is why God has commissioned His modern-day servants to “Cry aloud” and warn our leaders and nations of the consequences that are coming, so they can heed the warnings and escape God’s punishments (Isaiah 58:1; Luke 21:36). We have a big job to do!
Have a profitable Sabbath,
Douglas S. Winnail

Wow. I better send money to the modern-day servant commissioned by his "god", who thinks prophecy is dual because Herbie said so. Cuz that's how you do the LCG "job".

MY RESPONSE:
My Bible reads "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.". Nowhere do I see that somehow the Gospel is just supposed to go the leader of some country, and getting audiences with some dictator thru the means of gifts and photo spreads in the Plain Truth Magazine, and just speaking about a "strong hand from someplace".

I would argue the point made that HWA did not cry aloud to the world. Whether you believe his message or not, the WCG at one time was on some 300 television stations, 300 radio stations, and had a Plain Truth circulation that topped out at 8 million copies per issue, and the Good News magazine at over 1 million copies per issue.

The purchasing of media by the WCG was either number one or number two , in the entire Christian world. The FOT was the largest annual convention being held in the entire world at one point.

Certainly by comparison, even the combined COG universe put together is not even close to the range or impact that the WCG was making at its height.

The specific wording of Jeremiah 23:1-2 is, “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” declares the LORD. Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the shepherds who tend My people: “You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your deeds, declares the LORD."

The wording of this passage is directed specifically to "shepherds" which in our day equate to modern religious leaders, and referencing God's "sheep" specifically, which by the COGs' own definition would consist of "members" within these COG groups, rather than those who "haven't been called" or are "of this world." This post by Winnail then, could be characterized as a misapplication of scripture and a clear bait and switch.

Considering all the COG splits and splinter groups out there, most of which were started and maintained by "shepherds" falling out with other "shepherds" over what at least in some cases amount more to power plays and arguments of who gets to be in charge or petty disputes rather than actual doctrinal issues, and the resulting scattering, confusing, and merchandising of the "flock" as a direct result of these things, it might be more "profitable" if Winnail and other leaders within the COG movement were to view these scriptures with a bit of introspective contemplation, before trying to apply it elsewhere.

Any effort made to "cry aloud" with any sort of message to anyone will ring hollow and insincere when hypocrisy and corruption can so readily be found within the walls of these corporate churches and among their own leadership. Matthew 7:3-5

Actually, prophecy is not dual. It repeats seven times before completion. Seven is the number of completion. So 2000 years times seven is 14,000 years. That's when the end will come, in 14,000 AD. Don't you people know anything?

What a load of Armstrongite crap.

The reason religious and secular leaders are so corrupt is that they are not subject to the discipline of market forces. A tenured college professor (an infinite academic appointment) can teach all manner of crazy ideas, without having to experience the negative consequences. Tradesmen or businesses would go bankrupt if they defied market forces. Which is why the "go woke and go broke" adage.

I think Concerned Sister hit the proverbial nail on the head. Winnail should apply the Jeremiah prophecy to himself and the other ACOG "shepherds," who are more concerned about themselves and their income than they are about the sheep in their folds. And, once again, we see the pernicious influence of British Israelism on the ACOG understanding of prophecy, and in what should constitute the message of the Church. Hint, it AIN'T a warning message to the English-speaking nations of the world!

I don’t think that’s “Armstrongite crap.” It’s just crap!

Concerned Sister did indeed hit the nail on the head.
The leadership of each COGlet is corrupt and abuses their members.

Doug Winnail habitually misapplies scripture and should be fact-checked each time he cites a verse.

Doug’s message is aimed at boosting the member’s indoctrination that inside the “church” they have special prophecy insight, everything outside their “church” is evil; and they have a special calling to give a powerful warning from God to the “Israelite nations”.

However, Doug’s indoctrination is not biblical.

The Bible does not say that prophecy is dual – that’s a COG belief that HWA stole from others and claimed that God taught him this principal that had been lost for centuries.
The Bible does not identify the Tribes of Israel as the US and Western European nations – that’s also a screed Herbie stole from others, while claiming God delivered it to him alone.

LCG claims to be original Christianity yet LCG has adopted doctrines that come from outside the Bible, rely on books they’ve authored to establish these extra-biblical doctrines, and insist that only those who believe these extra-biblical doctrines will be saved.
The above defines LCG as a cult.

Lost in cult-hood, LCG thuggery (Weston & Winnail) refuses to teach the biblical concepts that original Christianity was/is enamored with – grace, justification, redemption, and an all-sufficient for salvation Savior.

My question is whether Doug Winnail is just a hapless dupe who has become a leader teaching the dogma that deceived him, or is he aware that he is manipulating and abusing the people?

Either way, Winnail is very dangerous.
