LCG Lectures Members How To Dress At The Feast And Beach

Appropriate Dress for Feast Services
While Scripture teaches that God looks on the heart, dress and outward decorum are also important (Matthew 22:8–14). As we prepare to be “lights to the world” at the Feast, it’s good to review some basic principles for attire at Feast services. For men, in most western countries, coats, collared shirts, ties, and nice slacks are considered appropriate on special occasions. This may vary somewhat in tropical climates. For ladies, 1 Timothy 2:9–10 explains that dress should be “modest apparel, with propriety and moderation.” Short, tight, form-fitting dresses, necklines flaunting cleavage, bare shoulders, backless dresses, crop-tops, etc., are not appropriate for Church services. We come to services to worship God, not to display our bodies. Our challenge as Christian men and women is to come out of this world (2 Corinthians 6:17) and be lights to a world that has lost its way (Matthew 5:14–16). This is especially true as we gather to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles—picturing Christ’s glorious reign on earth!

What About at the Beach?
Appropriate beach attire for women and men at the Feast of Tabernacles is swimwear that is modest and in good taste. We should be guided by the two great commandments—to love God and love neighbor (Matthew 22:37–39; Mark 12:29–31)—so as not to offend God or neighbor in our dress at the Feast. Accordingly, beachwear at the Feast for ladies should be a modest one-piece or a modest tankini (covering the mid-section), and for the men, no Speedo-type suits (unless pool facility rules require them, as is the case in some countries). Fathers and husbands have a responsibility to be leaders in their families to teach and guide regarding what is appropriate and what is not (Ezekiel 22:26).

I thought LCG taught that we should obey God rather than men, but that we should otherwise obey local laws. This means that if France's law mandating Speedo-type suits is against God's law, LCG members should not obey it. But if wearing Speedos is not against God's law in France, it's not against God's law ANYWHERE, meaning that LCG should not be putting man-made burdens on top of God's law. Unless, of course, LCG is just another bunch of Pharisees.

While this is true, I find that no minister has ever been able to convey and get the point across in a way that produces positive response or results. One does not have to beat a dead horse, and logic says if you continue to beat that horse, the less people, especially teens, are going to listen.

I always thought the ‘Burka’ was suitable attire for women at the beachfront. And of course silent in church. Perhaps segregated from the men folk to stop ‘wondering’ eyes.
Segregated beaches is a great idea.
However the problem arises when one does not know what is being worn under the all encompassing Burka. Heaven forbid, a bikini? So perhaps ‘see though’ attire is appropriate. If that is so, then the case is strong for segregated beaches. Oh the difficulty of being a Pharisee. Oh a serious note a middle aged man with a large protruding stomach wearing speedos is as unsightly as a buxom larger older aged women sunning herself on the beachfront lol.

Don't you mean 'wandering' ? Passive aggressiveness is a sign of defeat.

It just goes to show that clothing is cultural. Just go with what the locals wear. In some places of the world we are born with all of the beachwear we need. Other places require quite a bit more.

That was my first thought lol

Once again, Satan, in his rage at Feast goers, has succeeded in thwarting God's people and God himself at all the SE Feast sites. Even i-40 and I-26 are closed until the Spring and Fall of '25. Or...did God tell Satan to shut it down as he was not going to be able to be there either?

These churches appeal to regimented people who, for the most part, do not think terribly deeply unless someone they trust leads them through thought patterns. Deep study to them is performing research to prove that their church's teaching is totally correct. They are certainly not capable of abstract thought, or artistic imagination. If they find out via rumor that their minister or the pastor general of their splinter group uses a certain brand of shoe polish, that is what they will use. Their church is a natural extension of their personalities. It is the only environment in which they have any hope of thriving. In a sense, it would be cruel for us to wake them up and to make them into Linus without his blanket.

I submit that most of the members feel protected by these swimsuit rules, and believe that there is great wisdom behind them.

Oh, absolutely! Because nothing screams “spiritual enlightenment” like a retirement-aged congregation strutting down the beach in a string bikini or speedos, looking like they just escaped a retirement village, right? Picture it: a COG Pastor , 70 years young, rocking neon-green speedos like he's auditioning for a Baywatch reboot that absolutely no one asked for. And dear widow Sandra, squeezing into a leopard-print string bikini, convinced she’s the second coming of a Victoria's Secret model.

I mean, if you've got the confidence of a gladiator marching into the Colosseum, who am I to stand in the way of your sartorial trainwreck? Go ahead, flaunt those saggy bosoms like they're the latest high-fashion statement. Wave that beer belly around like it's the Holy Grail. After all, if you can't mortify the flesh, you might as well mortify the eyes of every poor soul who has to witness the spectacle.

And sure, while the whispers of “God, have mercy” and snickers from innocent bystanders might not exactly scream “grace,” I’m sure that counts as a spiritual challenge, right? Because nothing brings you closer to God than seeing someone’s elastic waistband give out during a beach volleyball game.

Agreed, Tonts. I'm living testimony that you can continue your workouts and have great muscles into your mid 70s. The thing is, while it looks great in a golf or dress shirt, it's the skin that gradually succumbs to time and dna! Of course seniors with diminishing eyesight may not notice that about themselves!

I remember a hilarious photo from about ten years ago captioned "There will always be one person who abuses casual Friday!" Picture was of a plus size middle aged lady wearing very distressed Daisy Dukes, a threadbare tank top sans bra, and flip flops. Cellulite City on the thighs!

I think the Armstrongists are so very extreme and controlling that they hold the rules at Nouveau Xtreme Conservative so that nobody even gets close to what you described. One side effect, and I think the post about insulating away the heathens is probably the only solution, is that the church teenagers are paying attention to their age group peers from the world, and ignoring the good little boys and girls in the church. If that sounds autobiographical, I guess "guilty as charged, yer honor!"

I wonder what bathing suit Jesus wore at the beach, at His feast site?

"For men, in most western countries, coats, collared shirts, ties, and nice slacks are considered appropriate on special occasions."

I'm confused. Isn't this conforming to the world, and not coming out of it?

Or perhaps it's ok for men to follow the world's styles and customs, but not ok for women to do the same?

Nah! That region is Trump country, Dennis. When God does it, you can't call it election tampering, but let's hope it's effective!

When I read "Short, tight, form-fitting dresses, necklines flaunting cleavage, bare shoulders, backless dresses, crop-tops, etc." I paused and wondered just what kind of church they are running now.

Back in the late '80s, there used to be men's elephant trunk underwear! I wonder what the ministers would say if a member wore that to the beach!

Do any of the major car rental companies rent out storm-chaser vehicles? I ask this on behalf of those who have feast reservations for Florida.

It would always feel strange to attend a feast area near a place after the cyclones have done their damage. But hurricane season is always in January right? Discernment
