COG's Turning Blind Eye To Assisting Those In Need

Bill Goff is one of the few COG members who seem to be actually doing a physical work, by putting his faith into practice, in taking care of the orphans and destitute in rural Africa.  He has been doing this for many years now by building orphanages and housing for those in need.  Every once in a while he tries to ask other COG's to assist him.  Guess what, they won't.  This should not be surprising after all, it is the Church of God.

Kenya and many other African nations are suffering terrible droughts right now in addition to horrendous political situations.  Many are dying from malaria and malnutrition.  Goff has been active in caring for these people.

As many of you know, I have been in Kenya for about two Months now, assisting at the orphanage and visiting various church groups, trying to encourage them with "assurance" that The Kingdom of God "IS" coming, and that the suffering that they are currently experiencing (and it is much) will eventually end. How I wish we could make others in the churches of God aware of the need here. I am sure others would chip in and help if we could only make them aware of the suffering their impoverished brethren are enduring. But getting past the hierarchy that continues to flourish in the various churches of God, and exposing the suffering of our brethren here is a difficult thing to do. Again I was refused by another church group leader to address their congregation. My only request was to make others aware of how difficult life is here for these brethren of ours, and how just a little assistance can help so many more of our brethren.
You can see some of the work he does here.

The more you feed them the more they proliferate and nothing gets solved, you only make it worse. I say give them all free vasectomies after their first two kids and they will all be a lot happier, they really will.

I've never actually seen any purpose in going out of my way to help any of those people in the poor nations of Africa. The way I look at it "you will always have the poor with you", so why bother.

in the writings of the apostle Saul, he talks about the Church helping the poor within the Churches:

today the cogers do not seem to at least understand the benefits public relationswise of being more proactive in those terms and how it goes a long way towards preaching the Gospel...

they are too busy wasting money on high salaries and fine residences, building pointless auditoriums, and, at least in one case, buying a private jet...

the concept of it being more blessed to give than to receive is alien to these people, even though they claim to adhere to the Commandments of God...

COG7 has for so very long had a variety of service ministries such as orphanages, medical and dental missions, and disaster relief. That's as a church, and the church also gives members freedom to establish independent humanitarian service ministries, which some have done.

for how many generations has the West been trying to help those in Africa?

has anything gotten better? all it has really done is create a class of elites that steal most of the aid....and then turn against the West.

until they change their culture, they will continue to live in squalor.

Interesting you mention it!

Africa is the fastest growing region in GDP since it is aided by the Chinese.

Perhaps you should rethink the economic model that has been sucking those nations dry to feed your cell phone. 85% percent you paid for that thing goes into the brandname. The other 1% to those getting you lithium or whatever.

"Culture" as in linked to the wasteful western model placing accomplishes at the top and have the rest work as slaves for your next chocolate bar??

Remember Jesus said, if you see someone in need turn your back and walk away. Also only help this in THE CHURCH he meant only those in LCG PCG RCG UCG COGWA CGI. And He didn't really mean "if you have done it to one of the least you have done it unto me" yes headquarters needs the money not some starving child because they deserve what they get. And of course God does not care for anyone except those righteous ones in the above churches. Let us prepare to rule in the world tomorrow.

Shocked and appalled by many of these comments. Such as:-

Anon 6:58 says “The more you feed them the more they proliferate and nothing gets solved, you only make it worse.”

Then Allen Dexter goes and agrees with this disgusting statement (I am really surprised at you Allen)

RSK says “I've never actually seen any purpose in going out of my way to help any of those people in the poor nations of Africa…..why bother”

In 1886 Theodore Roosevelt, later to become President, said “I don’t go so far as to think that the only good Indians are the dead Indians, but I believe nine out of every 10 are,” and went on to add “And I shouldn’t like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth.”

Are you people still living in the 1800’s when this statement was considered a reasonable Christian statement?

Have the words of Jesus about loving your neighbour as yourself still had no impact 2000 years after it was said?

At least Helen Wheels, who I take it has no belief in any sort of god, makes the statement “Bill Goff is a good Christian man and the work he is doing is truly outstanding.”

Thank you Helen for providing a beam of light and humanity.

It seems Mr Goff is doing a great work!

The old WCG did not believe in direct aid.
They did however believe that well being came a) through education and b) through nudging leaders into benevolent leadership.

Next to the schools in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Jordan, etc awarded structural aid for the hill tribes the entire publishing effort can be interpreted as an educational program.

The effectiveness thereof can be discussed but is at least far greater in extent than generally assumed. But the projects have been forgotten by those who funded it. YOU!

Some projects are still running to this day with other and larger donors, sometimes run by the grandchildren of those WE supported. Others have since their inception phase, (where we flew people around in the GII) grown into international bodies solving disputes between nations.

No one however has lifted more people out of poverty in a short while, both in Africa and Asia then the Chinese government, through the implications of their programs, economic belts and direct investment.

I do wonder what has become of the "little ambassadors of shanghai".
Perhaps one of them today is wearing a protective construction hat and building a railroad connecting the Pacific with the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic, or building a dam in Ethiopia providing the agricultural areas with water to supply the Asian hungry, reminiscing his day he visited the first lady of the united states and decided to make something for his nation.

Helping others is a personal matter. It may or may not get through to the people you intend, but if nobody is charitable, nothing will get through.

We got the double whammy from Armstrongism. We were taught not to contribute to "worldly" causes on our own, and the moneys donated to the church were flagrantly misused, and management refused to be accountable.
