The church was way too future oriented. If a person was socially or morally confused, the church offered scant instruction. The church's Pharisaic/Mickey mouse interpretation of the ten commandments offered limited guidance.
And this hasn't changed with the splinters.
I don't even think there was cable TV when this was made - at least, not widespread.

Leading the news today, zookeepers have been put out of business since all the wild animals are now free. On the west side, two hungry hippos and three lazy rhinoceroses interrupted the seventh street Bible Study. They had to be led out to pasture, but were held back by the eight giraffes owned by Mrs. Mogagigoobel. A spirit entity had to mediate the process. The hippos were reassigned, and the giraffes were moved to the twelfth street Giraffe Cherry Picker Farm.
In other news, the biggest potluck ever took place at yesterday's Sabbath Service, as vegetarian bean company "Millennium Beans" had a record produce. The teenagers cleaned up all of the beans before the nationally-televised Bible Bowl.

Yes, lots of ignorance, lots of Junk Food and some Milk.
If nothing else, the timing of events was/is so out of whack. Jesus Christ never returned 4 years earlier in the year 6000 AD!
And to this day, 15 Sep 2018, the Mickey Mouse Millennium (MMM) with Jesus Christ reigning on planet earth for 1,000 years still has not begun. If, when it happens hopefully someone will send out a universal email so we all can become aware that such an event took place on this planet.
After all, there would be some good news, such as some intervention by God the Father as follows:
"The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." Psalm 110:1
At the end of that MMM Satan is loosed from some pit:
"And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season." Rev 20:3
Not only is death (the last enemy still in existence) still happening, but that other enemy and some of his evil cohorts (Eph 6:12), like in The Terminator movie, can say: "I'll be back!" To do what? The same old thing, and boy, it will be old!
:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
Is this when the another MMM will begin?
The MMM is Junk Food, and ranks in with much of the information illustrated in "The New World News" newspaper.

Yes, there was plenty of ignorance then, and it still is with us to this day. Milk still exists. Lots of Junk Food exists. Witness all of the splintered xcogs claiming to be the one true Church, yet filled with their theory of the MMM, confusion, and claiming to be one big Family, the Churches of God.
God is not into confusion, but Satan is. Is Satan, that vile evil thing somehow "in the details?"
Could Satan be the author of all of the confusion? If you were Satan, how would you control things? Control families? Control politics? Control countries and governments?
Control religions? Control the "top dogs," the professing hirelings, who in turn influence and control many under them? Or would Satan work to control lonely, isolated, widows worldwide? I think we know the answer to some of these questions, but...

How much more time needs to elapse before the theories surrounding that MMM are modified? Anybody waiting for a Doug Winnail, a Weston, a Flurry, a Franks, a Pack, a Hulme...or, God forbid, a Thiel? Can there be no doubt that deception is virtually everywhere on this earth?
As an aside, didn't Jesus Christ say He would be preparing something elsewhere for others?

Oh, Jesus Christ comes in some clouds, meets others there, then what? Return to earth? Or, go elsewhere? Why would Jesus want to come to earth for some MMM?
Even the scriptures the Apostle John saw the following:
rev 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
And that is before the 7 Last Plagues, the 7 Vials, have been poured out upon earth.
Oh, but that would mean that the MMM with Christ reigning on earth, for the soon-coming 1,000 years, is a myth, Junk Food! Well,

far too much emphasis on future events....the real critical info is on how to live, obedience to God.
that's a major reason WCG collapsed, and the "splinters" are so far off base, preaching obedience with their mouths, yet disobedient in their actions.

Where I grew up Mickey Mouse had a positive connotation, so from that perspective there will be a MMM, which will definitely not be junk food.

Take, for example, Revelation 7 which is a retrospective-prospective insert. In Revelation 7:9-17, the prospective part, the great multitude, representative of the firstfruits, are pictured in their priestly role of heavenly Melchizedek king-priests during the MMM.
1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
That this is future in the chronological story-line of Revelation and the Bible is seen in that the this is prior to the first trumpet being blown.
(For an OT example see the 'prospective parenthesis' of Ezra 4:6-23).
Christ is going to return to the earth, definitely not as James Malm has said recently in the next few years, to fulfill the second half of his prophetic week. In the first half Christ raised up Israel the Church and established the ‘Sarah’ (1 son) dispensation of the New Covenant and returned at Pentecost and the Spirit of the Lord “filled the house” (Acts 2:2). In the second half Christ will raise up Israel the Kingdom and establish the ‘Keturah’ (6 sons) dispensation of the New Covenant and will return and Glory of the LORD will fill the house (Eze 43:5).
The former UCG Bible Reading Program (p.24, 2004) described it this way:
“Returning to the east gate, Ezekiel is now given a glimpse of the awesome and thrilling arrival of Jesus Christ (identified by Ezekiel as the coming of the “glory of the LORD”) to this newly completed temple, a scene that reminded him of the visions he had recorded earlier in his book (verses 1-5; see Ezekiel 1; 10). Ezekiel 10:18-19 had specifically mentioned God leaving the temple, after which it was destroyed. Here we have God returning again.”
1Ki 8:27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
Solomon in his Temple Inauguration prayer marvelled that he had built a house for Jesus Christ to ‘dwell’ in.
2Ch 6:21 Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.
“Solomon is perfectly aware of the ambiguity about the darkness where God is. While this preface to the ceremony calls the temple God's dwelling-place, his prayer states eight times over that God actually dwells in heaven (6:21, 23, 25, 27, 33, 35, 39)” (Michael Wilcock, The Message of Chronicles, BST, p.143).
While Christ will have an earthly address on the earth during the MMM, he and the Saints will be dwelling in heaven.
Andrew Fausset, around 15 years before HWA was born, summed up the essence of the GN of the Kingdom of God in this statement:
“The Israelite priest-kings on earth are what the transfigured priest-kings are in heaven... Elect Israel in the flesh shall stand at the head of the earthly; the elect spiritual church, the Bride, in the heavenly... The heavenly Church is elected, not merely to salvation, but to rule in love, and minister blessings over the earth, as king-priests" (A. R. Fausset, Revelation, JFB, Vol.3, pt.3, p.722).

If there is any confusion, it is in your use of "inserts." Where did you find those inserts? The word "insert" is not in the Bible! Somebody made it up.

You say the great multitude is representative of the firstfruits. Where is the proof of that? Scriptures show Firstfruits will wear white linen (Rev 19:8), as was pictured by the ancient Levites (Ex 39).
Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,
12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
13 ¶ And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

Those verses have nothing to do with any Firstfruits (FFs). They are clothed in white robes: not linen.
The FFs are in the 1st resurrection. The Great Harvest (Rev 7:9-17) are in the 2nd resurrection. There is no 3rd resurrection, which like the MMM, was made up as some theory and has no Biblical back-up for it. God only planned 2 resurrections.

Reply: My understanding is that the great multitude come out of THE GREAT TRIBULATION and “therefore” realize their heavenly reward of king-priests, with the priestly role pictured in Rev 7:15.
“That this throng serve God day and night (7:15; cf. 4:8) reminds us that the saints are a kingdom of priests (1:6, 5, 10), doing what priests and Levites did in the temple courts (1 Chron. 9:33; Ps. 134:1)” (Craig S. Keener, Revelation, NIVAC, p.245).
Rev 7:14 ... And he said, “These are they who have come out of the [tes] great [megas] tribulation [thlipsis]; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Rev 7:15 Therefore, “they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple... (NIV).
(Or as the Greek literally reads “the affliction/tribulation great” (IHGEB)).
Therefore because they come out of THE GREAT TRIBULATION they are in the first resurrection.
Mt 24:21 For then shall be great [megas] tribulation [thlipsis], such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Mk 13:19 For in those days shall be affliction [thlipsis], such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
Da 12:1 and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time
Dan 12:1 and there shall be a time of tribulation [thlipsis], such tribulation [thlipsis] as has not been from the time that there was a nation on the earth until that time: (Brenton, LXX).
“The use of the definite article in the phrase “the great tribulation” indicates that the angel is referring primarily to that final series of woes which will immediately precede the end... It is that specific period of distress and cruel persecution which will take place prior to the return of Christ. Prophesied by Daniel (12:1) and reflected on the screen of history at the fall of Jerusalem which supplies the full complement of Christian martyrs (6:11)... The intensity of the final conflict of righteousness and evil will rise to such a pitch as to become the great tribulation” (Robert H. Mounce, The Book of Revelation, Revised, p.164).
As an aside white robes can be fine linen:
Ch 15:27 And David was girt with a fine linen [bussinos] robe [stole] (Brenton, LXX).
Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen [bussinos], clean and white:
Rev 7:14 ... they have washed their robes [stole] and made them white [leukaino] in the blood of the Lamb.
Rev 6:11 And white [leukos] robes [stole] were given unto every one of them;
I would suggest that the concept is in the Bible; perhaps a different term could be employed. Looking at an OT example of a ‘prospective insert’:
Derek Kidner referred to Ezra 4:6-23 as a "parenthesis" (Daniel, Tyndale, p.50).
"This chapter describes the opening of hostilities and the first long set-back to the work; but before it tells of the immediate sequel, it pursues the theme of slander and intrigue well into the next century, up to the moment of disaster which was to bring Nehemiah hurrying to Jerusalem. If we were following only that theme we would go straight from verse 23 to the news of it in Nehemiah 1; but great things had been happening in the mean time, and verse 24 recalls us to the point which the narrative had reached in verse 5, before the digression.
"Without that foretaste of history to reveal the full seriousness of the opposition, we should not properly appreciate the achievements recorded in the next two chapters (5 and 6) nor the dangers hidden in the mixed marriages which Ezra would set himself to stamp out (chapter 7-10). So the digression is important and functional; it is only misleading if one ignores the careful notes of time which plot the course of these events and finally return us to our point of departure ready for the next chapter. It needs only the modern device of brackets, opening at verse 6 and closing after 23, to make this clarity clear" (Derek Kidner, Daniel, Tyndale, p.48).
A suggested NT example. John H. Sailhammer describes what may be called a “retro-perspective insert”. He begins with an introduction to Acts 12:
“The narrative is introduced as having taken place “about this time,” which probably refers to the events of the famine visit to Jerusalem of 11:27-30. But if the famine visit occurred about A.D. 46 and Herod Agrippa died in A.D. 44 (as will be seen below), 11:27-30 and the material of 12:1-23 are chronically reversed. Yet we must remember that ancient historians frequently grouped their material per species, without always being concerned about chronology... So Luke’s account of Christianity in Antioch by speaking of the founding of the church tied into that narrative a further vignette about the famine relief Antiochan believers sent to Jerusalem. As a result, his full account of the church at Antioch of Syria (11:19-30) REACHES BACK behind Peter’s ministries at Lydda, Joppa, and Caesarea at its start (11:9) and GOES BEYOND the accounts of Peter’s deliverance and Herod’s Agrippa I’s death at its close. It is because he is working per species within a broad chronological framework that Luke begins the narrative of Peter’s deliverance with just a temporal statement. If we were to seek more chronological exactness, we might say that the events of chapter 12 occurred between those of 11:19-26 and 11:27-30...” ( Acts, EBC, Vol.9, p.407).
The operative words from the above are “REACHES BACK and GOES BEYOND”.
I would suggest that John also employs this technique in Revelation. I have suggested that portrayal of the great multitude in heaven is prospective to the return of Christ in Rev 19:11.
The “reaches back” or retrospective may be illustrated from the end of Rev 16.
Rev 16:14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
Rev 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
Rev 16:19 ... and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
Revelation 17 begin with a reaching back to why Babylon has remembrance before God (cp. Rev 18:5).
Rev 17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
At Rev 16:14 the kings have already received their kingdoms.
Arguably Revelation 17-18 is the ‘retro’ and Rev 19:1-10 the ‘pro’ of the retro-prospective insert.
