My favorite comment by Meredith is the one about Thiel prophesying that Meredith would have a stroke. Thiel is just like Pack when he says this kind of shit.

You know things are bad when Meredith lambasts him considering how egotistical he was when HWA downloaded on him before he was exiled to Hawaii.
Meredith never understood what he did wrong and Thiel will never understand what he does is wrong. His mind is so warped now that he has no avenue of escape without humiliating himself.
So Bob Thiel lied about Meredith wanting to ordain him. This just keeps getting worse for Bob. I bet his dreams never covered this!

Thanks, PT for the letter. I had never seen it before. Thiel was intensely disliked by many LCG members who thought of him to be arrogant and condescending, just like Mr. Meredith said. I found him to be insulting to so many people because we refused to believe some of his rants. It takes arrogance and self-confidence to be a leader, but Thiel is a bully that acts like a little boy. There is hardly anyone from LCG that went with him. That should tell you a lot.
Those that mock God’s servants and prophets always pay the price. I would be very fearful in criticizing Mr. Thiel. He speaks the truth.

I question the accusation against Bob of offending or bugging others. I often "offended" church members by disagreeing with their let ideas, or challenging their perk of playing king of the mountain. These members often went and complained to the minister, who sided with them since he played the same games himself.
Rods "authority in the church" is an example of loading the language. That is, adding extra un-biblical meanings to a word, which violates the Bibles don't add or subtract from God's word. The loaded word "authority" means lording it over church members. If these ACOGs were honest, their names would be 'The Totalitarian church of God' or similar.
Why is it that none of the COG members question these con artists that call themselves prophets? What went wrong that they can’t think for themselves anymore? When did they stop testing things?

Sure Bob, sure.
As with HWA's departure from CG7, GTA from WCG, etc, and Bob leaving LCG, there are two or more sides to the story. Looking at these letters help with a broader picture than the patchy shots we've been given so far.
FYI, apart from following what Bob is up to, ICG is my only "COG of interest" - Mark's "Friday updates" are almost always, uh, "interesting" and today is no exception...
I used to enjoy Bob's site. He has lots of good information there. I'm afraid, however, that he shot himself in the foot with this prophet nonsense. I wish he would drop that and go back to writing and collecting doctrinal papers on his site.
Meredith may have given us an insight into his own psychology when he wrote:

What unacceptable idea, what idea that must be fought and overcome, was "pounding away in the back of" Rod Meredith's mind?
Was it his desire for intimate contact with other males? Was it his desire to be more wealthy and successful than his high school clique from Missouri? Was it his desire to be as respected as Robert Kuhn? Was it his desire to outdo Herbert Armstrong, a man who (in his mind) was made successful by himself and Herman Hoeh?
Meredith was a hyper-intense man, so it makes sense that some idea was pounding away in the back of his mind, taunting him or motivating him. But what was that idea?

Mrs. Howell, (Natalie Schafer), was actually pushing 70 years old when cast for Gilligans Island! She looks pretty good on the video in the post too for her age!
Obviously, Me Tonto, must be getting old too , as a sign of age for a guy is when he can start to admire older women , or frankly, even prefers them! LOL!

Some of Bob's posts have introduced or got me interested into looking into certain topics, news items, quotes, etc. Almost always, what I find or the opinion I draw from these are the opposite of what Bob expounds.
If, as one of the posters asserts, Bubbah Thiel has been a net giver to others, there is still a chance to redeem himself.
He should at least denounce that prophet nonsense and at most fall back to assemblimg or composing material some commenters here deemed "interesting" before his self proclaimed prophet delusion.
People will look at him then as someone to be pitied rather than in need of hospitalisation and medication.
I am all im favor of 2nd chances as long as not too many are victimized or the net delusional effort was born from outward concern.
Otherwise, these things never end well.

There is a way out for Bob, if he is willing to take it.
If he would admit that Rod Meredith "brainwashed" him with incessant flattery in order to secure Bob's generous tithes and offerings, he could reclaim most of his wasted life. He could reasonably believe that IF Meredith's comments to him were genuine, THEN his delusions of prophethood were the inevitable conclusion, as Meredith favored Thiel in ways he didn't favor those whose tithes and offerings were smaller.
From there, it would be up to Thiel whether to admit that HWA was also in on the con.

I have no fear of the god that Bob Thiel claims to be following. It is not real. I also have no fear of his god by calling him a liar. God never appointed Bob to start a new church. He is a false prophet. He teaches garbage that has nothing to do with the gospel message. He denies the Christ he claims he follows.

Back to the Painful Truth letters, the note regarding Trinity not being accredited may explain why Bob doesn't put ThD after his name. While it seems more appropriate to use ThD, his PhD is genuine, from an accredited institution.
Why put anything at all? Or just prefix his name with Dr? He may think adding PhD makes his tomes appear more scholarly and credible, but the content bears out the painful truth - as do his sermons.

One "Philadelphian" characteristic is having the Christian brotherly love that esteems others greater than self.
Proclaiming oneself a Philadelphian, and proclaiming that it's better to be a Philadelphian, is thus 100% proof positive that one IS NOT a Philadelphian.
First, HWA trashed Spanky Meredith in a letter, stating because Spanky "rubbed the fur the wrong way" he would never be in charge of the church.
Meredith and his church were the center of Theil's universe; he believed Spanky was the head of the one true church.
Then, the illegitimate church leader, Meredith, denounces Theil as a false prophet in a letter.
That's how far Theil is from legitimacy - how low is it to be trashed by someone who was trashed by HWA?

A couple of years ago while the kids were still young, we were searching for something to watch and stumbled upon Gilligan's Island.
The kids watched a few episodes with enthusiasm for seeing a show their father enjoyed in a simpler time.
Then, they got bored and commented about how lame the story lines were.

Just out of curiosity, Hoss, what makes you watch loser groups like ICG and CCG rather than other ones? What is your reasoning behind this?

Good question, thanks for asking. Time spent on COGs is one answer. I've been following different splinters for over 20 years, and PCG was the first. Like RCG, I feel they "crossed the line" of credibility. I never took an interest in some COGs, such as UCG, Weinland, Malm, and a few others that sparked interest on the blogs. With LCG/Bob Thiel, I lost interest in LCG when Bob broke away. ICG is a remnant curiosity, as it and Ron Dart's CEM were my last hope in finding something in Armstrongism.
With Bob, he reminds me of myself, and in Byker Bob's remark that we bloggers are "troubleshooters", I thought Bob was still "fixable". Not so much now.
Moving around blogs is another thing, I started, left, returned and drifted away from Painful Truth, and used to comment a lot on some now defunct blogs such as XCG and Missing Dimension. And I'll probably fade away here too...

I think Hoss is one of the most interesting personalities/thinkers here and we have lots in common. I always found the WCG members with secular international careers more in tune with its basic philosophy and easier to relate to philosophically than time and locality bound philosophers. A pity times and people prevent disclosing more personal information.

Bob is now crowing about his latest URL grab, CG7.org, where he aims at Sabbatarians in general. Typically, he states his criteria for identifying the Mythical True Church, then states that CCOG is the only COG that meets these criteria.
It's the old we can prove we are the True Church trick, which decades ago when both WCG and the Mormons used it on me at the same time...
@COG Whether they are Philadelphian or Laodicean, BOTH are of the Church of God whom He loves and whom He will chastise if necessary (Rev. 3:19). We as individuals should focus on “let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”
Having said that, it is possible there is a mixture of Christians with Philadelphian zeal and others of Laodicean attitudes within LCG.
I don’t think one should fear to attend based upon whether one thinks they are or are not. Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16).
