UCG: Don't Go To The Radicalized News Sources But Come To Us Because We Have The Real Truth. We Have The Logos!

Those fun boys in Cincinnati are back letting us know that they are the best source for unbiased news that there could possibly be! With their claim that 57% of Americans distrust the news, they want you to know that they are the best source of news you could ever possibly need.

It’s important to note that these numbers represent journalists and media on both ends of the spectrum—liberal and conservative. And government doesn’t fare any better.

What is disturbing about this for us in the Church of God fellowship? Follow-up research conducted a few weeks ago found that a majority (57 percent) of Americans interviewed noted that divisiveness is so extreme that they believe the United States “is in the midst of a cold civil war.”

Then the boys say this:

Consider these parallels: even before he was president, Abraham Lincoln saw similar issues. Back in 1858, he declared: “If we could first know where we are, and whither we are tending, we could then better judge what to do, and how to do it” (Lincoln’s emphasis). When he spoke this, the United States was bitterly divided. He famously then paraphrased the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 12:25: “a house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Today, this is more important than ever. In this current crisis of mistrust, we need to recognize that people on both sides have become radicalized.

As Lincoln stated, “what to do and how to do it” are critical. In this world where credible, reliable and trustworthy information is all but lost, where can people turn for real truth?

Hmm...let me guess...just where are people to turn to for real truth? Hmmm...I wonder where that could possibly be?

The biblical answer is found in John 17:17: “your word is truth” (English Standard Version, emphasis added throughout).

Imagine that, the "truth" found in a Church of God, particularly the United Church of God. Who knew!

Remember, these are the same guys who plotted and schemed, behind the scenes, while still employed as ministers of the Worldwide Church of God. This went on for many months with them meeting in the SOG apartments and off-campus to figure out how they could start a new church, take as many people as possible to fund a new organization that would keep them all employed as ministers. And while they did this they were actively kicking out WCG members left and right who disagreed with the changes. Depending on how well they liked you and if they thought you had a lot of money, they would then pass on to these people to wait and a new church would be formed and they could join it.

Yes, these are the men now asking you to trust them with the "truth".

Never mind that though, the boys want you to imagine that they answer to a higher power.

But consider this. There is a certain Greek word that refers to vocabulary. The phrase for vocabulary that is simply translated “word” in English is lexi (from which we get lexicon).

But lexi is not the Greek word that is in the inspired prayer from Jesus to God in John 17:17. This is a critical point: Jesus uses the Greek word logos—the verse actually reads: “your logos [Word] is truth.”

Why is that Greek word logos important? Beginning a few hundred years before the coming of Jesus as the Messiah, many philosophers claimed and used the Greek logos to refer to the ability to think, as a means to persuade, as reasoned discourse, as the difference between humans and beasts. Logos was the center of many teachings.

I guess Logos is as good a word as Jesus, or getter actually. UCG, like most COG's do not mention Jesus that much. Its law, law, law. Or, law, tithe, government, hoy days, and a little Jesus

If we now revisit the entire prayer of Jesus in John 17:17, we then see Jesus praying for us today! “Sanctify them [set apart for holy service] in the truth; your word [logos] is truth” (ESV). This Logos—Jesus Christ as the Word—must be living within us (Ephesians 3:17).

How can Jesus be living in the COG when the church has basically ignored the dude for decades? These are the same men who were embarrassed to even say the name Jesus for many years. Today it is cool for the more liberal COG's to say the name Jesus more as it makes them think they are appealing to real Christians in the world.

Think on this: if we indeed are to fulfill our personal individual mission of being lights to this darkened world (Matthew 5:14), a world darkened by mistrust, we must fully know, understand and be living the precious truths that we hold. We must be anchored in faith and active in trust! People in the world should see that Word of truth openly living in us.

As we approach the Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread, I call upon each one of us to revisit the spiritual trunk of the tree and hold it fast. A most crucial part of this trunk of the tree is the precious plan of God, highlighted by the knowledge and application of the Holy Days.

Jesus, plus the holy days. That's how it works. In the COG it is always a "+" god that needs to be affirmed. Something always needs to be done to placate the angry god they actually follow.

Do we consider that this Word, this Logos spoken of by John, who is today our Elder Brother who stands ready to help us, is the One who both gave the Holy Days we observe and also lives in their meaning? Does the understanding of these Holy Days live and manifest itself in our daily lives?

It is always important to do something to make the angry god happy. Do a lot of works and God will be pleased and then it may drop a few spoonfuls of grace upon you. The Jewish holiday s were vital to the identity and growth of the Children of Isreal to gain their identity. These laws were to them alone and not for anyone around them. Contrast that with what most Christians understand, that with Jesus, grace overwhelms everyone and everything, not just a certain group of people.

But then again, this is a COG and the law must reign supreme. The Cincinnati boys want their members to pray about their message during the upcoming holiday instead of placing their focus upon that dude that embarrassed them. the dude who can give them rest, comfort, and distress them from the rigamarole of everyday life.

Allow me to address one more issue: as we approach the upcoming Holy Days, I would also ask you to consider and pray about the fact that the message of the Church must endure and prevail in this turbulent environment of mistrust. We don’t speak for the Left or Right—we openly declare the reality of the coming Kingdom of God! We contrast the truth of the Bible with the events of the day, “crying aloud” (Isaiah 58:1) and proclaiming a warning message to repent of national and personal sins.

One of the COG's biggest fear tacts was to constantly whine about a "famine of the word". For two millennia there have been Christians who have fought and died to preserve the word they claim as too important to keep let die.  These martyrs who died knowing the truth they found never once believed that it was going to disappear at some point in time. Their God was more powerful than that. Not the god of the COG's though. It was so impotent that it let its message disappear for 1,800 years till Herbert Armstrong discovered it in a public library.

We should solemnly consider that the Bible warns of a coming time of spiritual famine, “of hearing the words of the LORD” (Amos 8:11). That time is not yet, but in a time when research confirms that media and government leaders are “purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false,” we must double down in prayerful vigilance, holding fast to the spiritual trunk of the tree.

For decades the COG has misled people with what they call the "truth". A truth that many of them don't even actually believe because that truth needs to focus upon Jesus and that just pisses them off. The COG in 2021 places more emphasis upon sacred rocks, double blessings, dreams, and visions of apocalypse as the god they look to than it does at any time upon Jesus and what Christianity knows and understands.  Some day the COG might catch up to that understanding.

..god of the COG's .. let .. message disappear for 1,800 years till Herbert Armstrong discovered it in a public library.

You mean the "truth" about the "identity" of the populations of US & B.C.?
Never mind that Armstrongism is nothing more than an eclectic agglomeration of Millerism, Adventism, Jehovah's Witnessism, Mormonism, Anglo-Israelism...

I am a true believer in the Christian faith but do not try to get other people to believe the same way I live my beliefs. In reading the way things are posted about the world today I find that efforts to correct what some people believe to be wrong causes more damage to the truth than the original flaw they were pointing to. It appears to me that the same thing is true in dealing with those dealing with religious beliefs. My personal solution has been to take the problem to God in prayer and make any adjustments I believe need to be made without revealing them to anyone else.

spiritual famine, “of hearing the words of the LORD”

Remember when Dennis and Bob Thiel duked it out about the meaning of "famine of the word"? Maybe that's why Bob is always whining about internet censorship and YouTube dropping his videos. Other COGs get upset when a TV station takes away their graveyard shift time slot and gives it to a better-paying infomercial.

This is a particularly sad line:

"A most crucial part of this trunk of the tree is the precious plan of God, highlighted by the knowledge and application of the Holy Days."

The Trunk, the Branch, is Christ.

For their Logos, or Spokesman, the UCG has that apostate Tkach goon Victor Kubik.

Anonymous 2/10 @ 10:03,

A person either accepts Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah and Savior or they don't. Hence, I'm perplexed by your characterization of yourself as a "true believer." Are you suggesting that there are "false believers"?

The Logos is the TRUTH. In the Gospel of John, we read that Jesus told Thomas: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." - John 14:6 It is, therefore, belief in Christ that is essential if one claims to be a Christian. This is the TRUTH that we must accept.

For a Christian, EVERYTHING in the Pentateuch points to Christ (that includes the Holy Days mentioned by Kubik in this post). In fact, Paul told the saints at Colossae: "So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And CHRIST HIMSELF IS THAT REALITY."

As for the other things which we believe that may or may not be related to our faith in Christ, Scripture indicates that God intends for us to grow in grace and knowledge together - to edify and encourage each other. Moreover, those same Scriptures suggest that sometimes we need for someone else to explain the way of God more accurately to us. And most of the folks who visit this blog know how dangerous it can be when we start to believe that we have a corner on the truth - that we have it all figured out.

God doesn't need our help, but there are times when our brothers and sisters will. Scripture also informs us that we sometimes need to do more than wish, hope or pray good things for others - there are times when we need to get off of our duff and help them get what they need.

Victor Kubik speaking about Jesus Christ (another Jesus?) asked this question:
******
"...Do we consider that this Word, this Logos spoken of by John, who is today our Elder Brother who stands ready to help us, is the One who both gave the Holy Days we observe and also lives in their meaning?..."
******

Why should we consider that?

Vic Kubik still believes that his Jesus was/is the God of the Old Testament. Why? Where is God, The God? Not Jesus. Not some Word. Has Vic ever proven or shown that his Jesus "gave the Holy Days we observe?" No, b/c it would not be true. How do we know? Here are just a couple of verses for starters to clearly show the God of the OT is not the Word or some (another?) Jesus:

Acts 3:13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let [him] go.

Acts 7:32 [Saying], I [am] the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

That God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was not the Word and it wasn't Jesus Christ.

Was it Victor Kubik's (Weston's, Flurry's, Thiel's, Winnail's, Franks' et al) Jesus/Word that "...gave the Holy Days we observe...", or is that just some more "junk food" like his/their preaching of a Mickey Mouse Millennium (another Jesus soon to return to reign on earth for 1,000 years), and his/their belief in some fictitious 3rd resurrection?

Time will tell...

John

So now the trunk of the tree according to UCG is "the plan of God." Last year in their monthly magazine they wrote that the trunk of the tree is the ten commandments. Such contradictions are a cults way of muddying the waters. HWA often used it.
What they are indirectly defending is that in a cult, it's members are the property of the cult leader and his minions. The cult owns it's members lives. That's the trunk of the tree that cults don't want it's members to be aware of, and question.

Jn 20:17 Jesus saith unto her ... go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
Jn 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Who was Thomas’ God?

Could the Father and Jesus Christ be God in the NT?

Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.

If the above is true, could the identity that we now know as Jesus Christ have been God in the OT as well?

Ex 25:9 And thou shalt make for me according to ... the pattern of the tabernacle [skene/skhnh]... (Brenton, LXX).

Jn 1:14 The Word was made flesh and made his dwelling [eskenosen] among us, (and we beheld his glory [doxa], the glory [doxa] as of the only begotten of the Father)...

“... the Logos “pitched his tent” (ekenosen, from skhnh, “tent” and revealed his glory (cf. shekinah, having the same consonants as the Greek sknhn). The language is evocative of the revelation of God’s glory in the Exodus...” (George R. Beasley-Murray, John, Rev., WBC, p.14).

“... Christ is the locus of God’s dwelling with Israel as he had dwelt with them in the tabernacle in the desert (Ex 25:8-9; Zec 2:10). Hence the glory of God, once restricted to the tabernacle (Ex 40:34), is now visible in Christ (John 1:14b)” (Gary M. Burge, John, NIVAC, p.59).

1 Cor 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of [ex] whom [hou] are all things, and we in [for; [eis] him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by [di’] whom [hou] are all things, and we by him.

[God the Father and Jesus Christ] “have differing functions, which are expressed in the Greek prepositions. The Father is one from (Greek ek) whom come all things: i.e. he is the source and origin; he is also the goal (Greek eis) and the purpose of how existence. Jesus Christ is the agent and mediator: i.e. the one through (Greek dia) whom everything and everyone comes into existence....” (David Prior, The Message of 1 Corinthians, BST, p.145).

“Concerning the world, the Father is the source (ex hou) of all creation, and Jesus Christ is the dynamic One through whom (di' hou) creation came into existence” (W. Harold Mare, 1 Corinthians, EBC, Vol.10, p.239).

Jn 14:9b he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

Jesus Christ is the ‘dynamic’ God-being, who is God’s agent and representative.

Ge 48:15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,
Ge 48:16 The Angel [mal’ak] which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads;...

So that the reader will not be confused with which God-being Jacob was addressing in verse 15, v.16 reveals which One it was.

Ge 32:30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

While the Father was Jacob’s God so was “The Angel.” The Word was the dynamic God-being that interacted with Jacob, the individual, and Jacob, the Community.

Mal 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger [mal’ak] of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

Jn 2:16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.

In Mal 3:1 the temple belongs to the Messenger of the Covenant and in Jn 2:16 the temple is the Father’s house;

The Temple is the Father’s house in the ‘absolute’ sense; but in the ‘dynamic’ sense it is Jesus Christ’s House.

Eze 43:4 And the glory [doxa, LXX] of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east.
Eze 43:6 And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house...
Eze 43:7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever...

In the future, The Angel of the Covenant will come to His temple - during the Millennium.

Deceit is not the answer either Miller Jones. Deception and deceit is why many more Christians do not trust the Christian Ministry, even within the Armstrong movement. Perhaps Victor Kubic was hinting at that, perhaps not.

It is not the hallmark of Jesus Christ, for ones who do not believe in the observance of the holy days, to half heartedly, dragging their feet and minds to them. Especially the Passover. What high price, in the long run, would people who did that pay? It would not be good for peoples mental and spiritual health.

"We contrast the truth of the Bible with the events of the day . . ."

It is highly presumptuous for any religious organization to proclaim that they have the unalloyed "Truth." This thread of presumption runs through Splinterdom and early on was presented to the public in the form of the title of "The Plain Truth" magazine, at one time the flagship publication of the WCG. I remember a college buddy of mine scoffing at the title of the magazine. At that time I thought his scoffing was indicative of intolerance for what was right - a rebellion against truth. In retrospect, it was his valid recognition of reality.

The truth is not easy. The Bible is a difficult read (Always beware of people who tell you that the Bible is simple and that they understand it. This is the kind of rhetoric that deceives people who can only see things as black or white. They like to hear people who speak "with authority." Atheists also presume the Bible is easily understood.). It is an uphill trudge. You will spend a lifetime learning, even though you may arrive at a working knowledge relatively soon. Again, surveys indicate that Americans believe in four different gods. The four profiles cut across denominations. Apparently, even various Splinterist organizations have different beliefs. Under these formative conditions, for a religious organization to assert that it has cornered the truth is nonsensical. Especially an organization that has no published, integrated Doctrine of God.

Sidebar: Maybe Splinterdom could explain why they claim the Trinity, which views God as a single monotheistic essence, is pagan while their overt polytheism is somehow the sacred truth. Isn't it actually the reverse. This fumbling of a foundational Christian doctrine makes me skeptical about their claims in public to be in command of the truth.

The translation you cite is from the NIV - the world's worst bible translation in my opinion. The translators overtly incorporated doctrinal views in their linguistic work. You can look in the BibleHub interlinear and find that it does not say ". . . for not celebrating . . ." Rather it uses "merei" which means something "in regard to."

Splinterists will shoot you down very quickly over that one. The NIV translation aside, Splinterists will argue that Paul is not saying that you should not keep these thing in an OT fashion but just that you should let nobody judge your keeping of these things.

Col 2:16 does not stand alone as an incisive abnegation of Armstrongist use of the OT. You must go to verse 17 for the rest of the story. Armstrongists, too, will have a dubious argument for verse 17. Then you must go to Galatians or the larger context of Paul's writing.

Anonymous(4:41) - Addendum

Off the topic, but if you want a scripture that you can use like a rolled up newspaper to whack obstreperous Splinterists, it is best to use the Shema:

"Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one"

Splinterists are polytheistic and depart from the Judeo-Christian Tradition concerning the Doctrine of God. They stepped off into the wrong direction at the very inception point of their theology - in the understanding of the nature of God. In particular, they are bi-theistic, which is polytheism that is implemented with two gods. There is much more to this historically but this oversimplification works.

NIV - the world's worst bible translation in my opinion

Yes, NIV may be clear to read, but, like many other translations, is heavily influenced by the theology of the translators. Locally, at least one church seems to think the 1984 NIV is somehow "better"; this seems to be based on how certain words are translated and possibly some agreement with the KJV.

Remember when HWA pushed the Moffatt translation?

Dt 6:4 Hear [shema‘], O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

When it comes to the “shema‘” perhaps God and Jesus Christ’s definition of “one” God is overlooked.

Jn 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord [kurios] and my God [theos].

1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God [theos], the Father... and one Lord [kurios] Jesus Christ...

“[Paul] has kept the “one” intact, but has divided the Shema into two parts, with theos (God) now referring to the Father, and kurios (Lord) referring to Jesus Christ... [Paul] is reasserting for the Corinthians that ... there is indeed only one God... but at the same time, he insists that the identity of the one God also includes the one Lord...” (Gordon D. Fee, Pauline Christology, pp.90-91).

NIV is indeed one of the worst bible translations around. It actually denies Jesus Christ in various scriptures, that have strangely, left out Jesus being called the Son of God.
NIV is also known as the apostacy bible amongst the faithful. Beware of anyone promoting NIV on a audience of Church goers who mainly have NKJ bibles.

Christ often rebuked and corrected people in the NT. He didn't say nothing and just pray about it. God in the OT used his prophets to warn and rebuke gentile kings and ancient Israel. Silence surrenders the world to evil. Which is why tyrants put their opponents in concentration camps and use torture chambers.

Sense ? 7:26. You only sense what apostle Paul meant.

Miller Jones/Lonnie C Hendrix said...

I actually like and quoted the NLT version of Colossians 2:16-17, which is very similar to the NIV, and both versions accurately convey the sense of what Paul intended and wrote in Greek.

"16 So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. 17 For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality." - NLT

"16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ." - NIV

In the context of the surrounding verses, Paul was reminding these folks that Christ is the source of their salvation - that HE is the one responsible for their sins being forgiven. And he goes on to tell them that scrupulously following a bunch of dos and don'ts cannot accomplish the same thing. The proof that these English versions convey the original sense is further demonstrated by consulting other English translations of the same verses:

"16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a sabbath. 17 These are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ." - RSV

"16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ." - NKJV

If we consult Strong's and Blue Letter Bible, we see that the Greek word "soma" which is translated into English as body (KJV), reality and substance conveys the sense of "that which casts a shadow as distinguished from the shadow itself." Hence, Christ is the actual body, and those other things are the shadow which he is casting. He is the real image - festivals, new moons and sabbaths are only a reflection of it. In other words, these things point to CHRIST.

Some mistranslations in the bad NIV: "a tithe of everything"-NIV-Lev 27:30 should be "all the tithe", a significant different meaning than the NIV. "Begins"-NIV-Lev 23:6 is not in the Hebrew text. "Proclaiming"-NIV-2Thess 2:4 should be "showing off". Showing off as a god doesn't necessarily mean proclaiming "I'm God".

Col 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

“The apostle ... offers two reasons why this “philosophy” is “hollow and deceptive.” First of all, Paul propounds, it is predicated on “human tradition.” In Paul’s perception, the “philosophy” was manufactured by humans, not given by God (cf. 2:6)...

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Col 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

“Until this point in the epistle, Paul has spoken of the “philosophy” in rather general and polemical terms (1:23; 2:4, 8). Here, however, the reader is belatedly given concrete clues concerning the commitments of the movement against which Paul is reacting...

“Certain unnamed people were apparently advocating dutiful observance of certain days, including religious festivals, New moons, and Sabbaths... Presumably the “philosophy” was prescribing certain religious activities in conjunction with these special days, perhaps with a promise that these observances would enhance congregants’ purity and spirituality. It is now impossible to know precisely who were seeking to pass judgment on the Colossians ... and exactly what motivated them to act as self-appointed arbitrators [Jewish regulations and/or theosophical asceticism?]. The paucity of textual particulars results in interpretative uncertainties. While such ambiguity does not sate our curiosities, “biblical studies are not helped by being certain about the uncertain” (Brown, 596)” (Todd D. Still, Colossians, EBC, Revised, Vol.12, p.311, 316-17).

Ex 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.

Isa 66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

“To whom are the promises given? Just to the people of Israel? Hardly. They are given to those of all flesh who worship him from month to month and Sabbath to Sabbath. This is the ultimate end of Israel’s religion, that everyone should have opportunity of joining Israel in worshiping the one God (cf. Zech. 14:16-21). Israel is not to be separate so that it can revel in its separateness, but so that its faith can survive to be declared” (John N. Oswalt, The Book of Isaiah Chapters 40-66, NICOT,p.691).

Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

“The one festival uniting all nations in worship is to be the feast of booths... it was open to all, including ‘the stranger’... The reference in Nehemiah shows that the festival was ... an occasion for hearing the law read. In God’s kingdom, the gentiles would be brought within that covenant when they came to worship in the Temple the King, the Lord of hosts...” (Joyce G. Baldwin, Zechariah, TOTC, p.206).

Zec 14:19 This shall be the punishment [hatta’t, lit. “sin”] of Egypt, and the punishment [hatta’t, lit. “sin”] of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

“... the priestly literature is similar to the rest of the Old Testament in using terms for sin or guilt to refer not only to the wrong itself, but also to the consequences of the wrong... terms for sin are often used as a metonymy for the punishment that results from them... the connection between sin and punishment in the Bible is so strong that the writers often use terms for sin when referring to the punishment that the sin warrants” (Jay Sklar, Sin, impurity, Sacrifice, Atonement - The Priestly Conceptions, pp.12, 21-22).

Re the cult of Jehovah's Witnesses check out this kooky site with illustrations from their publications that supposedly contain subliminals of disturbing images in them. I remember reading about this years ago myself. It makes me wonder if any similarly disturbing subliminals would be be discovered in Armstrongist illustrations?

John, I guess they believe God the Father is a hands off God, a distant Father. Somehow Christ has more importance even though Yeshua said His Father was greater than He. It's plainly stated that He (not Yeshua) is the God of the fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, but somehow that became Yeshua, the Spokesman, even though that term isn't used in scripture either. This isn't something to cause a lack of faith over or giving up. Instead, it's about reading your bible for yourselves and putting the booklets away that sometimes muddy the waters. Read it and study it! The covenant, the holy days, salvation is still in those pages, but not man's additions.

Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son...

Not only was God the Father the God of the OT, He is the God of the NT.

Jn 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Just as he was not the God-being that interacted with human-beings in the NT, He was not the God-being that interacted with human-beings in the OT:

Hos 12:3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
Hos 12:4 Yea [waw], he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;
Hos 12:5a Even [waw] the LORD God of hosts

The angel equals Yahweh God of hosts equals Jesus Christ.

Ro 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

“So thoroughgoing is Paul’s christocentric worldview that he can hardly talk about God without also mentioning Christ...

“God the Father is always the “first course” of everything and thus always appears in the primary position as the “prime mover”; nonetheless, the focus of Paul’s life is on Christ himself...” (Gordon D. Fee, Pauline Christology, pp. 1, 8-9).

“Once he had encountered the exalted Lord, the sacred text was transformed into a place where the long-awaited Christ could now be found everywhere...” (Gordon D. Fee, Pauline Christology, p.23).

Zec 14:5 and the Lord [kurios] my God [theos] shall come, and all the saints with him. (Brenton, LXX).
1Th 3:13 To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord [kurios] Jesus Christ with all his saints.

“... the title ho kurios [the Lord] is the special province of 1 Thessalonians...

“The first instance in the corpus where Paul uses language from the Septuagint and applies the kurios = YHWH directly to Christ appears in the eschatological goal of Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians in 3:11-13... Here our focus is on the final phrase, where, after Paul has prayed that ho kurios (= Christ) will cause their love to increase and abound (in the present time), he offers as the goal of such love that “[the Lord] may strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus, with all his holy ones.” Here Paul’s intertextual appropriations of Zech 14:5 seems certain, since the language is too close to be merely accidental. The two text read:...

1 Thess 3:13 at the coming of our Lord Jesus
with all his holy ones

Zech 14:5 And shall come the Lord my God
and all the holy ones with him

“The christological import of this sentence lies with the fact that the kurios of the Septuagint is “Yahweh my God,” who will himself come to the Mount of Olives and carry out his eschatological victory over the nations. In Paul’s theology, the future coming of the Lord is always seen as the return of the present reigning Lord, Jesus Christ. What Paul has done seems clear enough: the future coming of Yahweh is now to be understood as the future coming of “our Lord Jesus,” who alone is kurios in Paul’s new understanding, resulting from his own encounter with the risen Lord (see 1 Cor 9:1)” (Gordon D. Fee, Pauline Christology, p.43).

“Once one recognizes Paul’s intertextual appropriation of the language of the Septuagint, whereby kyrios = Yahweh is now kyrios = Christ, one becomes aware of the many exclusively Yahweh-phrases from the Septuagint that are also applied to Christ. This happens throughout the Pauline corpus...” (Gordon D. Fee, Pauline Christology, p.45).

1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God [Theos], the Father ... and one Lord [Kurios] Jesus Christ

So while God = Theos is rarely applied to Christ, YHWH = Kyrios is applied mainly to Christ in the NT.

If the Father seems far-off it is due to His holiness; hence the need of Jesus Christ as His help meet.

That's pretty funny. You don't seem to know about the Bible Story illustrations. They didn't bother with subliminal but went right to disturbing, the thing of nightmares.

Oh, but those are disturbing for the children.

Showed an adult non-member the cover of a booklet about The Beast, and they gasped in horror

Well, could be interesting to see what subliminal messages might be uncovered, regardless.
