The Church of God's Own August Landmesser

This was August Landmesser, a worker at the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. He is the lone man refusing to salute Adolph Hitler understanding how crazy his rhetoric was. Landmesser had run afoul of the Nazi Party over his unlawful relationship with Irma Eckler, a Jewish woman.

Did you know we had our own version of August Landmesser in the Church of God?

Notice the guy in the circle in the background who covers his eyes

as the rest of the people stand in awe of the Great Herb.

(well, there is also the guy looking like he is ready to vomit...)

It reminds me when I was around 13. We were at the Feast in St. Petersburg. My mom was never a member and would attend mainly to keep peace in the family. HWA was there and when he was announced everyone stood up and gave a standing ovation and KEPT ON CLAPPING, sort of like what you see in historic history reels of Stalin where it was dangerous to be the 1st one to stop clapping. My mom continued to sit the whole time and did not clap, as she always had misgivings about HWA. I remember some of the dirty looks she would get from others in the congregation.

There's another guy in glasses, to the upper left of guy "vomiting", looking up wondering when this will be over and what he's going to have for lunch.

Back when Herb had most of us mesmerized some of us stood around in awe. Herb was a master at being a snake oil salesman. All Herb cared about was the money. As long as he lived the life of a king, he didn’t care about the people he bilked. Unfortunately there are many today who still worship him.

Those who still worship HWA do so because they love his particular stew of truth and error. That hardly qualifies as following Christ.

Looks like HWA was trying to be funny, and got people to laugh or smile, and a few of the folks are covering their mouths in a sort of embarrassment .

The first is just rubbing his tired eyes. Just like we all do.
The second is just covering a cough.

Some of you people need to lighten up! Sheesh! You take life far too seriously.

And the third guy looking up is just straightening his neck.

If a new evil leader arose would anybody here recognize him? No, of course not. Don't think you are all so smart that you can tell the evil guy from the good guy because obviously very few of you can.

Here is how I spot an evil leader. I don’t follow none of them. I don’t need some self proclaimed prophet or leader telling me what I should or should not do.

1:11 whined "If a new evil leader arose would anybody here recognize him? No, of course not. Don't think you are all so smart that you can tell the evil guy from the good guy because obviously very few of you can."

Well, buttercup, it is quite obvious you have noi discerned that very thing considering the numerous evil leaders in the Church of God these days that you support.

Some still have framed photographs of Armstrong in their homes. PCG applauds Flurry’s sermons, especially on the holy days even when he he isn’t present…

Jim-AZ, Unfortunately it's not that simple. "Prove all things" is an ongoing responsibility, so when young and lacking in knowledge and experience, people are forced to follow the significant others in their lives.
Not following any leader in old age is easy, but cannot be avoided in one's youth. It's apart of the human condition.

It's sickening that all the people in the photo trusted HWA, yet he betrayed them with his 1975 claim, and many other deliberate lies and distortions.

isn't Mr. Armstrong's grown daughter shown 2nd from right in front row dressed in beige and holding a coat over her arm

Bobby Fischer felt betrayed too and didn't pose in such pics, wonder what he was told when he too tried to prove all things

Wasn't that picture taken in Bricket Wood? Those people look British!

They show signs of getting edgy & fidgety during public adversity or requests for transparency, like the way Jim Jones got jittery & spaced out
