In the 1970s they should have been buying up small buildings for local congregations to meet in, and other things for the future. Twenty years after 1974, little did they know or predict/prophesy that they should have spent that money more wisely. They should have kept GTA in the wings so he could have been the clear successor. But things happen in mysterious ways.

Where did all that money go?

The Armstrongs killed their own empire with their sex sins! Sooner or later all secrets are revealed. These days, in most settings, even those who knew but didn't tell are held accountable and banished. That would have taken out the entire upper eshelon of WCG ministers!

Ironically Cowboy, Garner Ted in CGI had congregations owning their own land and buildings. It wasn't all of them, but to this day original CGI '78 churches survive by owning their own buildings and land.

6:20, Yea I heard about that. Good for them. You can keep your feast there, and you don't have to ask nobody for anything, especially when times get tough.
