Gather round, scattered sheep of the former Worldwide Church of God empire. Pull up a folding chair in your living-room Sabbath service and prepare to be blessed by the latest self-congratulatory press release from the one, the only, the truly virtuous Church of God, a Worldwide Association. Because according to their latest elders’ letter, COGWA has spent the last fifteen years radiating nothing but peace, productivity, and pure, unadulterated service—the noble opposite of that ugly selfishness they heroically fled from back in 2010.
From their sparkling headquarters in McKinney, Texas (because nothing says “humble service” like a slick corporate campus with assigned pastors guarding every flock), they now “serve” 104 U.S. congregations and 166 international ones—270 total little kingdoms. They even planted shiny new flags in Uganda and Australia this year. Finances? Up every single year since the split—small but consistent growth, they boast. New doors for preaching the gospel? Wide open. And for fifteen glorious years, they’ve enjoyed “peace and productivity,” which they graciously pray will continue… provided everyone keeps remembering how much holier they are than the selfish monsters they left behind.
Cue the world’s tiniest violin.
Let’s rewind to the actual origin story these folks love to airbrush. December 2010: COGWA didn’t “apostatize” in some noble doctrinal rebellion—nope, doctrines are basically identical to UCG’s. It was a classic power-grab soap opera over governance and authority. UCG’s General Council of Elders had just elected a new council more sympathetic to a less autocratic, more collegial model (you know, the whole “Council of Elders” thing they’d bragged about since forming in 1995 to avoid Herbert Armstrong-style one-man rule). The “old guard”—including future COGWA heavyweights like Jim Franks, Mike Hanisko, and Leon Walker—didn’t like it one bit. Cue the immediate triggers: personnel reassignments, communication blackouts, and demands for ministerial loyalty oaths. Hanisko later admitted the real reasons were “unethical, sometimes sinful conduct” by UCG leadership and “ungodly treatment of brethren.” (Translation: “How dare the council try to curb our hierarchical vibes?”) Earlier, when they controlled UCG, they’d already divided no fewer than 22 congregations to crush local advisory boards, building funds, and any whiff of congregational input—hundreds of elders bailed then too. But sure, now they were the selfless heroes.
The damage was biblical in scale. Over 170 elders and ministers walked out between June 2010 and March 2011 (roughly half the full-time paid pastors). About 40% of UCG’s membership—thousands of people—followed, swelling COGWA to around 8,000 attendees and 170 elders by early 2011. Congregations split right down the middle. Families stopped speaking. Friendships evaporated. The “great work” of preaching the gospel? Yeah, that took a backseat while lawyers, dueling websites, and angry Feast-of-Tabernacles meltdowns took center stage. Real servant-hearted stuff, right? Families torn apart so a few ministers could keep calling the shots.
But here’s the punchline that turns this into pure comedy gold: COGWA is UCG with a fresh coat of paint, better branding, and the exact same attitude of selfishness—just rebranded as “service.” Same legalistic checklist—keep the Sabbath, Holy Days, tithes, clean meats, and the full Armstrong starter pack or you’re not really “in” and definitely not making it into the Kingdom. Same top-down structure where “assigned pastors” make sure the sheep stay in their assigned pens. Same endless chest-thumping about numbers, money, and “new doors” while pretending it’s all about humble service instead of empire-building. They just swapped the acronyms and the zip code.
Fifteen years later and they’re still patting themselves on the back in their annual letter: “One of the key elements for maintaining peace and productivity is the concept of service, which is the very opposite of selfishness.” Translation: “We’re not like those guys. We’re the good ones. Please keep sending in those tithes so we can keep growing our little 270-congregation empire and reminding everyone how selfless we are—unlike the UCG we fled because they tried to make governance slightly less heavy-handed.”
Spoiler alert: It’s selfishness with a smiley-face emoji. Same attitude, different headquarters. Another splinter from a splinter from a splinter, all claiming to be the one true continuation of Herbert W. Armstrong’s legacy while the rest of the scattered brethren watch the same tired soap opera on repeat—complete with the same governance fights, the same loyalty tests, and the same “we’re the virtuous ones” press releases.
So the next time COGWA pats itself on the back for its “spirit of service,” just remember: they didn’t leave UCG because they were holier. They left because they wanted to be the ones in charge—exactly like the UCG leaders they accused of the same sin. Fifteen years later, they’re still exactly the same—only now they get to write the press releases.
Service?
The show never ends.
From our headquarters in McKinney, we serve 104 congregations in the U.S. and 166 outside the U.S. for a total of 270 congregations. Each has an assigned pastor. This past year we added new congregations in Uganda and Australia. Each year since our beginning we have seen increases in our finances—small but consistent growth. We have also seen the opening of new doors for preaching the gospel. So, what will this new fiscal year bring for the Church?
For 15 years, we have seen peace and productivity in the Church of God, a Worldwide Association, and we pray that this will continue. But we must never take it for granted. We must continue to work to promote this atmosphere in the Church throughout the world. One of the key elements for maintaining peace and productivity is the concept of service, which is the very opposite of selfishness. Whenever we focus on serving others instead of ourselves, good fruit is produced.

I've been wondering how long till we saw an anti-COGWA post here. You UCG ministers that run this blog hate how much better run COGWA is over your tired worn out aging group.
Once again, estupido, who are these UCG ministers that supposedly run this blog??? You still have not given us their names! Quit writing fake crap, or give us some real facts to support your accusations! Cause it really smells like your pants are on fire!
Cracked up at the comments by anon 6:16:29.
You naughty ministers who ran this blog here. Shame on you all lol. But our group is better than yours. Yeah mine is bigger than yours lol. Yes folks the Armstrong world has descended to this new low. I'm gunna go and open a can of the amber stuff now. Need a good drink, might help me to stop laughing at this horse sh*t, ha ha.
The UCG Really Was Very Bad
The fact is that the UCG really was very bad. The UCG was full of unethical and sinful behavior. Too many of the UCG people were simply godless perverts. Something had to be done about it. Now, since 2010, all the malicious fake “christians” in the downsized UCG can play church without being able to do evil to the people who escaped from them to COGWA.
The word “godless” gives away this COGWA poster…they were badly hurt no doubt, and potentially rightfully so. Regardless, the move from OH to TX as well as who wanted to be in charge was ultimately what this was really about. Any doctrinal issues were completely made up by those who became COGWA leadership.
Another person 6:56 who's worked out the truth or are you trolling your own blog?
UCG does have doctrinal errors regarding the holy days. That's why I left in 2008.
Cogwa is younger than ucg and has a lot of high paid tithe payers. They are comprised of business types with AC and/or ministerial family and who have learned the cogwa dogma and are happy with the social environment. Time will bring cogwa down through erosion, but now their good times arrogance will keep them going for a decade or two.
In fact, jim franks and the like would view my post as complimentary.

And some choice scriptures regarding the United/Cogw Ass(s) "babes:"
Hebrews 5:11 "Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
:13 For every one that useth milk [is] unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment?" They act as if they are somehow stuck in some stagnant state since at least 16 Jan 1986.
As the United/Cogw Ass(s) "babes:" headed up by hirelings who fled from the former Pasadena WCG, continue to preach virtually the same Milk (principles of Christ's doctrines) and Junk Food (qualifying/making it into God's Kingdom via works of/by self, etc.), these hirelings and their followers seem to be still still stuck on that "Armstrong starter pack," while preaching the gospel, indeed, took a backseat...
When will these hirelings/babes, and their followers/babes, driven by another spirit (James 4:5; Eph 2:2; I John 3:8, 12) finally be weaned off of milk, stop preaching "another gospel," get away from "another Jesus," and begin preaching about the real Jesus, and some strong meat of the real gospel as the Apostle Paul tells us (Galatians 3:8): the same thing Abrahm knew (Gen 12:3)?
Time will tell...
John
Names? Names? Names???
What errors are those...I need to know after I quit pledging allegiance to Grover Beach, please.
What is UCG doing erroneously at holy days?
Sorry, COGWA still into the BI stuff. No thanks!

Too Funny 7:16
7:28, you say UCG was "really bad". If it was "really good" it wouldn't have been split up. Think of it. These are the people who fled for safety from WCG after Christ gave the keys to the apostates, yet for all that we couldn't get along. (Sort of like Monson and Fritts of COGA splitting up even though Monson had successfully exorcised his son shortly before. Some thank you) I was put out unjustly by both UCG and COGWA (and LCG) so I am a witness to the corruption and aware of shady elders and deacons who like to think that they are the church's only righteous policemen, witnesses and judges. Brethren, you can't rule in the church according to a whim when you get offended, because Satan preys on stupid people like that. (As Paul said, "I get angry too"; 2 Cor 11:29)
COGWA shouldn't gloat over its existence because they sinned too. Did you read the despicably arrogant, smug and deceitful comments that were posted at the time of the split? It was back and forth quarrelling and finger-pointing. Even if you are right, it doesn't give you the right to sin against your brother. As much as UCG heads were corrupt, so were the COGWA leaders dishonest and deceitful; men like Meeker, Walker, and others. And didn't Hanisko (COGWA) send the police after his brethren on a Sabbath? Shame on you all if you haven't repented.
The reasons for the split -- broken promises, HO move, neglect of SA brethren, charges of misconduct, etc. Christ will judge, and He has, by scattering us apart. When there is a massive rupture in a church usually sin is involved (but what confuses you all is what that sin is). Look at Laodicea in Rev 3. Are you smug, haughty, self-dependent and lukewarm? Get ready to be spit out.
Once the corporate allegiance obsession dies off, you won't be arguing over which church is more righteous.
6:57 I like your comment regarding milk or meat. Too often the sermon is always a review a repeat. Where is the substance of Jesus, the sacrifice the resurrection and the brotherly love that I often receive from my rural farm friends that tell me here are the keys to the house when they leave on a trip or if you need to borrow anything it's yours. They know I'll do in kind. I know they are people in the COGS that do the same but those miles are hard to overcome.
I attend Bible studies with my neighbors at their houses each week. A potluck and conversation about how was your week and then 30-45 minutes of bible study , question and answer, with no subjects off limits. People come and people go but judgements are rare and prayer for all who ask for themselves or others. There is no rigidity or circumstance it all comes easy and it's the fastest hour and a half of Christian togetherness I have ever had on a continuous basis.
So true. While I attended WWCG, 3 of the 4 ministers I had were psychopaths. The fourth wasn't much better. Many of the elders were psychos as well. When the church splintered, these and their like minded followers remained in the UCG, while their victims fled to COGWA out of self protection.
The UCG must be cannibalizing their own.
I wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall observing their antics.
At this point, I hope/think God understands in the end especially for people who happen to attend WCG and even a splinter. For them who tried twice and decided to just to kick it at home. He understands that these ACOGs have a hierarchy problem, which shows a lack of humility. This group splits up, that group forms, then a portion of that group splits up. It’s a sad commentary on Armstrongism. Each group claiming to be the one and only.
In the NT Bible, the church was scattered due to persecution or later the roman system (Acts 8:1). But in Arstrongism, the ministers do the scattering, perhaps that’s what the prophets talked about. Jeremiah 23:1-2

These are the times when Armstrongites need to gird up their loins and wear spiritual condoms. The splinters are all analogous to STDs.

As it turns out, an individual who fellowships with about 4 different congregations, and yesterday was visiting with the United Association gave my wife his phone number to give to me. It has been about 27 years since I last saw him. I called him and had a very good 45 minute conversation regarding Bible scriptures and, difficult to believe, no mention of politics! He lives in Florida and enjoys Bible studies with others very similar to what you do with your neighbors. It was very refreshing talking with him.
Continue to enjoy your Bible studies with others, especially with neighbors, because doing such a thing, where people don't get so easily offended over Bible discussions, is a very positive thing.

Interesting comment. After review of list of chags/festivals in Ex 23:14-16 and moeds/fixed times in Lev 23 and other verses I think festivals are Nisan 14-20, 8th Sunday after Nisan 14, Tishiri 15-21...... and Tishri 1, 10, 22 are annual sabbaths........but 3:51 may think differently.
June 6, 2026 at 9:42:47 PM,
I noticed that sort of thing too. Malicious perverts were kept and supported by the UCG while their victims got kicked out. When the 2010 UCG-COGWA splinter group split happened, all the godless perverts that I was aware of stayed in the UCG.
It was surprising how many bad characters there were in the WCG and its splinter groups. I had expected better.
As Jim Franks, the leader of COGWA, once said, sometimes you just have to walk away.
It looks like there is only one True Splinter Group, and UCG is not it now, and is not even a part of it now.
