The German Blitz That Crumbled Before It Started – Thanks, Demographics!

For decades, Armstrongism has clung desperately to the long-held delusion that Germany will once again rise as a military juggernaut, invade the United States, England, Australia, Canada, and other so-called “Israelitish” nations, slaughter a third of the inhabitants, haul off millions of prisoners (especially the young and fit), and ship them across the Atlantic to serve as slaves for their European overlords. It even reached peak absurdity at one point with the claim that when the Germans stormed ashore, they’d be so dazzled by the Ambassador Auditorium and surrounding properties in Pasadena that they’d declare it the invasion headquarters. Heaven forbid they tear it down—after all, why destroy such a fine example of God’s (or at least Herbert’s) handiwork when you could just occupy it instead?

Herbert Armstrong kicked off this paranoid fever dream by repeatedly insisting that Hitler was still alive and hiding out in South America, most likely Argentina, plotting his comeback tour. Then Rod Meredith had what can only be described as a particularly vivid wet dream about Americans being cooked in Nazi ovens, hung on meat hooks to die slow deaths, and—because nothing says “biblical prophecy” like extra cruelty—skin from those with tattoos being turned into lampshades, just like the Nazis actually did in some concentration camps.

Scores of breathless articles flooded the Plain Truth, Good News, and World Tomorrow magazines, warning of the imminent German blitz. And who could forget Gerald Waterhouse’s traveling road show of unhinged stupidity, where he not only regurgitated these delusions but happily invented fresh ones for the flock? Even today, the usual suspects—Bob Thiel (a.k.a. Bwana Bob, the Crackpot Prophet), Gerald Flurry, Ron Weinland, Alton Billingsley, Dave Pack, and a whole clown car full of other self-appointed know-it-alls—continue to peddle this nonsense as if it’s cutting-edge revelation instead of moldy 1930s-era geopolitical fan fiction. It should be painfully obvious by now that mental illness and grand delusions are occupational hazards for far too many Church of God leaders and evangelists.

These Church of God leaders need this German invasion to happen. It simply must occur! Only then can they finally declare victory and prove that every wild-eyed prediction they’ve ever made wasn’t the ravings of paranoid men living in perpetual fear of being exposed as frauds.

All of this stems from their stubborn refusal to leave the Old Covenant behind—those heavy chains of law-keeping, enforcement, and threats used to keep the sheep in line. Armstrongism’s allergic reaction to fully embracing the New Covenant is precisely why they keep recycling this apocalyptic garbage. Instead of finding rest in the One who accomplished it all, they prefer to wallow in fear and cower before imagined divine wrath.

They desperately need to see an invading army of jackbooted Germans marching down the streets of Charlotte or Grover Beach. But not once do they sit down and actually think this mythical scenario through. Germany currently fields around 1,000,000 active and reserve military personnel, while the United States has about 3,000,000. Oh wait, they always have an escape hatch: After Germany miraculously drops nuclear bombs on all the major military installations and cities, the number of defenders will be minimal. And of those who remain, many will conveniently perish from hunger and disease. Armstrongism has a convenient workaround for everything!

One thing these prophetic geniuses never had the intellectual honesty to consider is the current state of Germany’s military. This tidbit was on a German page on X:

“Germany can no longer raise an army, simply because of how many Muslims are now German citizens”

“Now, allegedly, Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz has privately admitted that he's worried about the country's ability to raise an army, simply because Germany doesn't want to put weapons in the hands of hundreds of thousands of Muslim Germans. And he'd be right in worrying, because a recent study of young Muslim Germans showed that nearly half expressed latent Islamist attitudes, which are, you know, the kind of attitudes that turn Muslims into terrorists, and more than half said that their religious commandments were more important to them than even German democracy. And if you ask me, these don't sound like the attitudes of Germans. These sound like the attitudes of Germany's enemies”

Let’s get into the facts. A 2025–2026 German government-backed study by MOTRA, Radicalization Monitoring System, involving the Federal Criminal Police Office, found that 45.1% of Muslims under 40 in Germany hold either “manifest” (11.5%) or “latent” (33.6%) Islamist attitudes. This includes preferences for Sharia over the constitution, antisemitic views, and Islamist leanings. When you have a significant population of Muslims who hold a pro-Sharia Law mindset, you can’t trust them in your military.

In the end, the entire edifice of Armstrongist prophecy about a German invasion crumbles under the slightest scrutiny, revealing itself as nothing more than a fear-based control mechanism dressed up in biblical language. While these leaders continue to hype imaginary jackbooted hordes, the real world moves on—Germany grapples with its own demographic and security challenges that make conquering the United States about as likely as Herbert Armstrong returning from Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena to lead the charge himself.

The tragedy is that generations of sincere people have lived in dread, sacrificing time, money, and peace of mind to support a fantasy that has failed spectacularly for decades. The New Covenant offers rest, freedom, and security in Christ, not endless paranoia about European superpowers or nuclear doomsday scenarios conveniently rigged in favor of the “one true church.” It’s long past time for those still trapped in this system to step away from the delusions, embrace the finished work of the Savior, and leave the failed prophets to their increasingly desperate echo chambers. True peace doesn’t come from watching for German tanks on the horizon—it comes from the One who has already overcome the world.

This will be devastating for Bob Thiel. He has been spreading this lie for years.

Yet 60 Minutes had a report May 31 on the rearming of Germany.

There have always been multiple ways to look at what the Germans are doing. (Not to mention other countries.)

Yea, 1:29 there are multiple ways of looking at it (including lineage that spread to the west), they are rearming due to the Russia thing, I don't think they are thinking of Britain and America "as of yet."

Germany grapples with its own demographic and security challenges>>>>>
Germany’s aging is so serious it seems it will permanently cap its economic growth as the workforce will shrink faster than productivity or migration can compensate, leading to a Japan‑style demographic slowdown. All of this is another proof Armstrong (if one needed given his many false bible teachings) is/was a fake man made money rip off system whose prophecies are as useful as a lifeboat with a hole drilled in the bottom. All the while offering the lie given quite seriously it is the one true church.

Multiple ways to look at it” iseems like trying to say don’t give up on the prophecy just yet? Germany’s rearmament is just a defensive NATO‑driven adjustment, not the birth of a world threatening empire.Germany’s new defence spending will rebuild it into a capable NATO military, but demographic limits etc mean it will never become the kind of dominant power imagined in Armstrong's old prophetic narratives.
Using this 100b spending to prop up Armstrong’s failed prophecy if that is the intent is just another example of stretching reality to keep the fake man‑made prophecy alive. It was a complete fraud based on BI and other false assumptions.

Xxxx, yea once again Armstrongism and its lack of acknowledging science to prove things. Birth rates are demography and it is a social and statistical science. And in another 10 years, and another decade, what will this place or that place look like (like Japan) they gotta have immigrants. The elites don’t want to pay people. Some Europeans have to move to other European nations for higher wages, like say Italian men. Winnail will complain in sermons about “young people don’t want to have kids” and he’s wrong, it’s not that they don’t want to, it’s the cost of things. The older LCG and other splinters don’t factor “outsider” economies and science (other than new moons).

They tell you and preach: for you to watch, watch watch!!! And that’s what we can do more than any other generation with our high speed internet. We can watch international newsclips online, or have online subscriptions that are international (if you desire). I just wish they could relay to their followers to simply focus on Christ. Greater is He that is in you than, he that is in the world.

But people like Winnail and Weston, the W-2s have to have Christ come during their time. Their version of prophecy is far more important than their “relationship with God”.

The German people are not descended from the Assyrians. Period. The Anglo Saxon peoples are not a Semitic group, with roots in the Levantine region. Judging by recent performance, Russia is most certainly not Gog Magog of scripture. In the past it looked highly plausible that she was. The Cold War was at its height and the Eastern bloc looked an invincible monolith confronting the western world. The destruction of the USSR and the east bloc put that baby to rest. Modern day Russia wouldn’t mount a large, wide, long range attack on the modern nation of Israel. Ukraine has put that baby to rest as well. The biggest threat to this prophetic model expounded by the Armstrong movement is their massive decline and disfunction and collapse into competing factions . The Gamaliel principle at work here, as others have commented on this blog. Cheers.

I no longer believe in the Armstrong prophecy mold. However, I believe that currently emerging authoritarian nationalist governments will eventually get around to ethnic cleansing. There may even be a Muslim holocaust in Europe.

Of course, that would frost Bob Thiel to the gills! He'd like to think that his Armstrongism is more of a threat to the world order than the jihadists. The Muslims are just kicking back, practicing their taqiyya. There are running bets about which Western European country will be the first to adopt Sharia law.

Any way you look at it, Armstrongism is fizzling out.

The EU will conquer the US, and yes, it will be led by a strong Germany. They will fall apart in the short term and be reconstituted with a dominant Germany leading. It doesn't matter who believes or disbelieve. Truth does not depend on who believes it.

The genetic analysis is unassailable. The USA is the greatest Gentile nation to ever encumber this planet. That fact is what needs to be fitted into HWA's interpretation of Biblical prophecy. This radically redefines HWA's US/BC end-time model. I am not going to futz with this new hermeneutic because I believe Jesus when he said he came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets.

No. For you and others, truth is truth only because of who spoke it. You believe whatever was spoken by your Apostle, because he kept the sabbath, a "proof" of his church which he alone provided. I guess you'd repudiate him only if it could be proven that one of his many incidents of incest was committed on the sabbath!

The prophet Daniel was around to see the fall of the Babylonian Empire after prophesying that it would, because he was in direct communication with the host from the third heaven being greatly beloved receiving visions and dreams.

Whether you are HWA, GTA, RCM, RFA, ....... Those guys through all their predictions, didn't get to see the fall of the "American Empire". Perhaps focus in on Christ and the discipleship. Truth, you say, thy word is truth. Christ is truth.

5:27, you can believe what you want. But whenever the end comes, I would sure hate to be within an Armstrong remnant church group when Christ returns and/if America still happens to be the dominant country/empire on this earth. You better hope and pray that it's the Germany/Europe model. Currently that model doesn't look the part. At the same time, you would want America to go all the way down. It's sort of a catch twenty-two. You want, what you don't want.

Jesus didn't say.....think not I've come to abolish but to live to abolish.

EU will conquer the USA? Unlikely. An enraged Europe will hear tidings from the east and go out with great fury to destroy. Russia in its, and on its present form, may well be the biggest victim. The USA certainly fits a great power with many ships coming from the four corners of the earth with its company of nations against Israel in the ME as in Ezekiel. And only the USA has the ability to project power in this way on the globe. This great gentile nation is a threat to Israel and I do believe there will be a parting of the present relationship between her and the USA. As John says, time will tell. But what is sure is the Armstrong prophecy model is a dead duck. Quack quack anyone lol.

Yea, 3:41 I too always thought that America would turn on Israel when things got really bad or be the biggest threat as you mentioned. Who knows, and time will tell. It’s gotta be an empire and has to also impact trade, “buy and sell”. Germany doesn’t have that capacity, or as of right now. And where is this pope that comes from Europe? This is just projection. If it does become EU one day, so what!

Truth is this: Christ died for our sins, and He rose again. He is our high priest and is the mediator making intercessions for those who are justified and being sanctified (who are converted Christians) in the new covenant. Don’t let armstrongism tell you that their prophecy gospel (America/BC, EU/ Germany) is truth. The truth sets you free, not the fear dogma.

I asked chapeegeetee and it gave the following:

Germany alone cannot match U.S. force levels in the near term.
The EU collectively could equal or exceed U.S. manpower if fully mobilized.
The U.S. retains major advantages in:
• Naval dominance
• Air power
• Global logistics
• Unified command
• Rapid deployment
EU advantage: larger population and industrial depth if fully coordinated.

So I definitely wouldn’t discount the EU (and Germany) growing in power above and beyond the US in the next decade and in fact succeeding the US (like the US succeeded the UK after WWII) if something happens to the US like the dollar collapses, civil war erupts, nuclear attack, natural disaster, etc that leads to its fall. Perhaps it will then become a vassal state of sorts to the EU (like Vichy France was?) or be divided up by various powers like the EU, China and Russia? Either way imo in the end time there is no “king of the west” prophesied but there is a “king of the north,” “kings of the east” and “king of the south” so the US as we have known it over its 250 years of existence will cease to exist by then.

Anonymous said...

You may have a point. Many factors are currently depleting the USA and its chief competitor, Russia, as we discuss these things. That's what happens under bad leadership, with bad decisions. Europe is still "kind of" in our bubble and experiencing the same things. China alone is on the upswing. Bad shit may happen, but it's unlikely it will unfold according to the Armstrong model. I certainly wouldn't be planning my life around HWA's teachings. Been there and done that, and got the T-shirt in 1975.

Decisions are easier these days. Who wants to listen to some guy who is good at selling vitamins and thinks that should qualify him to be a prophet? Well, that and getting annointed for a cold!

6:37 Usually when discussing such scenarios, one thing gets left out, and that's the nation of Britain, because remember it's ephraim and manasseh according to armstrongim' BI. I don't know about Britain's military, nor do I care. I just know they "sometimes" tend to go along with the rest of Europe when energy, or industrial issues come about like now or the Berlin Conference in the 1880s. Armstrongism doesn't like to talk about those kinds of things.

And speaking of the king of the south: 6:37.

And the king of the South has to be somewhat be able to be on par with battling the king of the north. Currently Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia don’t have that capacity, and haven’t in a long time. Of course it was the obama admin that messed things up for Libya.

So when looking at verses like:

Daniel 11:43 and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels.

Ezekiel 30:4-5 The sword shall come upon Egypt, And great anguish shall be in Ethiopia, “Ethiopia, Libya, Lydia, all the mingled people, Chub, and the men of the lands who are allied, shall fall with them by the sword.”

Those structures would have to be in place. Unless it’s more than that. And that is, prophets like Isaiah, Daniel and Ezekiel saw sort of a different group of people in those areas that reside there now, for say like Egypt and Libya which are primarily currently arabs. When Isaiah saw Egypt it was the 25th dynasty and Ezekiel/Daniel the 26th dynasty. They were not arab from the Levant.

The one thing to look at when looking at Africa and India is that their birthrates are rising. And in a couple of decades perhaps they will be there and/if the technology with weapon capability, they will be there. But this is something that Armstrong wasn’t looking at, it’s all Watch Germany, watch the EU and ignoring the king of the south.
