Church of God Videos: Slick Conversion Tools Or Objects of Heresy and Comedy?

Here are two different Church of God videos made by two different COG's. 

The first is by the Great Bwana to Africa and Chief Overlooker Bob Mzungu Thiel. If you can make it through the first three minutes without laughing or shaking your head in confusion, then more power to you. The Great Overlooker should have spent some of that $2,000,000 he has dumped in Africa over the past many years on setting up a real studio in his home, or at least investing in some quality curtains and desk chairs that don't bounce. He also could have found better AI sources to make his animations.

The second video shows a slick presentation by United Church of God that attempts to be all hip with the presenter wearing his snap back trying to appeal to millennial/Gen Z potential converts. It's slick and well-made, though filled with heresy just like the Great Overlooker's animation.

One is an obvious comedy routine worthy of derision and the other a more subversive one that subtly slips in Armstrongist doctrines as truth, denying the Holy Spirit and true divinity of Jesus.  It is another subtle attempt to promote the idea of the Armstrongist "god family" where true church members can become gods and join them in some kind of mystic union 

ruling planets and galaxies right alongside them as co-equals.

Why does the Church of God have to ruin Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away and families are preparing feasts for themselves and friends. Traditionally in Church of Godland this was one of the "good" holidays that members could partake in along with the world. Yet, typical of the Church of God, far too many church leaders also turn this day into another Debbie-downer moment for members. It really irks the self-righteous butts of some church leaders if their members spend money on themselves and do not give it all to the church.

That brings us to the Philadelphia Church of God and their latest article on Thanksgiving. Here is how they titled their article: "Thanksgiving and Repentance". God forbid if you have one day out of the year to not worry about church leaders lording themselves over you or having to feel guilty for having a pleasant day unencumbered by flatulence from your church leaders.

The article starts off with the historical aspects of the day of Thanksgiving:

In a proclamation on April 30, 1863, for a nationwide Day of Fasting and Prayer, President Abraham Lincoln said, “It is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”

Mr. Lincoln went on to say, “We have been the recipients of the choicest blessings of heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown, but we have forgotten God.”

You can guess which part of this the PCG latches on to...REPENT!

The article continues:

America was richly blessed because of the patriarch Abraham’s faith and obedience. But President Lincoln recognized that America had forgotten God and needed to repent. What would he think of America today? Have we forgotten God? Does America need to repent? 

 

How about you individually? Do you need to repent? What is repentance and how is it accomplished?

Before you overindulge in turkey and other goodies, make sure to put on sackcloth and cover yourself in ashes and get on your knees in fearful supplication, and then repent of seen and unseen sins. Make yourself as miserable as possible and THEN try and enjoy your meal all the while knowing in the back of your mind that you are a miserable worthless worm. 

Romans 5:12 tells us that “all have sinned.” Jesus Christ is the only human to have lived a sinless life. That was necessary for Him to be the savior of mankind. But all other humans have sinned and do need to repent. 

 

Christ teaches us in Mark 1:15 that we need to repent and believe the gospel. The gospel that Christ taught is the good news of the soon-coming Kingdom of God. Repentance is a requirement of being forgiven of sin. Without repentance, we cannot enter the Kingdom of God (Revelation 21:7-8). 

 

Sin is what has to be repented of. Sin is the transgression of God’s law (1 John 3:4). Abraham Lincoln realized that the war-torn America of his time was sinning and needed to repent of breaking God’s law.

 

Historically for a nation to repent it was led to do that due to the preaching of real converted men of God. Today in COGland we have no one like that either leading a church or calling the nation to repentance. Why on God's green earth would ANYONE in the world listen to today's COG ministers? Why would they listen to Dave Pack, Bob Thiel, or Gerald Flurry? All three of these blubbering buffoons believe they will be one of the two witnesses or God's official mouthpiece ushering in the end times. 

The article continues:

A major fruit of repentance for America was that it abolished slavery. It wasn’t done perfectly, but America changed its ways. The nation didn’t just feel bad about slavery, it abolished slavery. That is rare in history! It is something to be thankful for!

God wants us to repent so He can pour out His blessings on us. Christ makes an awesome promise to us in Matthew 6:33: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” 

 

If we repent and put God’s will first in our lives, Christ promises that all the blessings we could ever want will be added unto us. If the people of America—and all people—would truly repent and seek to do God’s will, God would free this world from its slavery to sin.

Godly men and women, who by their faith set an example draw people into the church and repentance. Where do we have such people today? Is there a COG leader or even a member who is so devoted to God that their calling shines bright in them, so much so that people desire to know what it is and a called to rely upon the Christ they follow? Why don't we have COG leaders who do that today?

This Thanksgiving, be sure to thank God for all His blessings and seek to do His will. Even if most people don’t repent today, you certainly can. And if you do begin to live by God’s laws and stay in a humble attitude of repentance, seeking to do God’s will, then “all these things shall be added unto you.”

An update on the African turmoil of Bwana Mzungu Bob Thiel's improperly named "continuing" Church of "god".

I believe he's been totally Blind sided, as it's now been confirmed that the CCOG was never registered in Malawi, since he first started organizing there with bogus ministers of God. l mean it's a total forge job of Radson Mulozowa, but Bobby prefers to believe his so-called ministers of God over solid evidence. So, you really think he will admit any of this? Ain't gonna happen. He can't cherry pick on anything we've reported, to do so would require him to admit it's all true and that he's totally not qualified in any ministerial position. He's deceived himself and can't come back now; he's a caged rat, that has no way out. 

 

I believe around 9 or 10 years ago he started his campaign in Africa and pumped upwards of around 2 Million to fund his African shim-sham Sand Dance. 

 

The problem with Pastor Bobby Thiel is he doesn't have common sense or spiritual discernment of any magnitude. He believes lies over truth, because it doesn't fit his narrative of the CCOG being the Philadelphia Remnant and he can't possibly be that deceived! He's the Big End Time Prophet of God, and he can't possibly be wrong.

Bill Watson Has Won the War Over CGI’s Messaging

The Church of God International’s long internal struggle over control of that organization’s messaging has resulted in a triumph for Bill Watson and his allies. For the last decade, Bill has been advocating a “conservative” political message for the church. Indeed, during that period, he has embraced Trumpism, QAnon conspiracy theories, authoritarianism, and anti-immigrant, anti-vaccination, anti-globalist, and America-First policy stances.

Why this fascination with extreme right-wing political beliefs? I believe that Bill’s views were forged in the fires of Herbert Armstrong’s teachings. In short, Bill believes that the English-speaking nations of the earth are the descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh, capitalism is God’s system (and socialism is the Devil’s system), the church should be preaching a warning message which focuses on interpreting today’s headlines using biblical prophecies, illegal aliens and immoral people are destroying America’s Christian values and society, and most of the evils in the world are the consequence of elaborate and satanically inspired conspiracies.

Of course, some of the folks in CGI saw Bill’s partisanship as a potential liability. They believed that it was unwise to take sides in the divisive political and cultural wars raging in the United States. In other words, immediately alienating half of their potential audience did not seem like a wise course of action to them. Some of the folks in CGI leadership (like Vance Stinson, Jeff Reed, and Wynn Skelton) believed that the church should be preaching Christ’s Gospel message and avoiding the bankrupt preoccupation with headline theology which had resulted in so many prophetic failures for Herbert and Garner Ted. Many of these folks recognized that Anglo-Israelism had been thoroughly discredited and made its advocates look like a bunch of racists. Moreover, many of these folks thought that the church shouldn’t be taking any position on things like vaccinations and other public health measures.

Unfortunately, the evidence suggests that Bill’s views have prevailed within CGI. Indeed, in his most recent sermon, Defining the End Game, Pastor Watson delivered a detailed justification of his views, and the church posted it on their website! In his message, Bill’s longing for the “good ole days” of his youth was on full display. In short, the fear and grievances which have been the hallmark of Trumpism were front and center in his sermon. He noted that things are changing in America and around the world. He said: “This isn’t the same United States of America that I grew up in.” Watson then went on to reiterate: “We are living in a different country.” For Watson and his followers, America is morphing into something foreign and frightening.

The problem with this longing for the America of the past will be readily apparent to some of us. The truth is that America has always had its moral failings. While the 1950’s and early 1960’s may have been a golden age for folks like Mr. Watson, they weren’t so nice for people of color, women, and homosexuals. Those were the days when it was still acceptable to discriminate against, control, beat, jail, and lynch folks that weren’t white heterosexual males. Those were the days when it was OK to dump just about anything you wanted to onto the land and into the oceans, lakes, and rivers and into the air that we all have to breathe. Those were the days when the United States and Soviet Union were building great stockpiles of nuclear weapons capable of erasing all life from this planet and were engaging in proxy wars against each other around the globe.

According to Bill, too many folks simply cannot discern what is currently happening and are basically in denial about just how bad things really are for America. For Mr. Watson, it is incomprehensible that so many people cannot see this. In his view, they are like the frog in the pot of tepid water that is gradually brought to a boil. He declared: “I’m watching the United States slip away right before my very eyes!” According to Mr. Watson, bad people are changing our culture and the very nature of our social structure. For Bill, the culprits are homosexuals, transgender folks, abortion advocates, euthanasia advocates, and those nasty socialists and globalists.

What does all of that have to do with religion and things spiritual? Bill then proceeded to quote extensively from the seventh and eighth chapters of the book of Daniel and chapters 13, 17, and 18 of the book of Revelation. For Pastor Watson, these prophecies point to “Agenda 2030” and “The Great Reset.” Bill believes that corporations, governments, and the media are gaslighting all of us and are actively working to establish a socialistic system which controls everyone. He suggests that most folks will concede and conform to these controls, and that those who resist this governmental structure will suffer. Indeed, in this part of his sermon, his message sounded an awful lot like the Seventh Day Adventist’s predictions about laws enforcing Sunday observance.

Of course, the pastor completely dismisses any notion that folks like Soros and Gates are actually trying to help folks and prevent us from destroying ourselves. Once again, Mr. Watson believes that the objective of these folks is socialism and control. They are the servants of the Devil, and Bill and his allies are warning everyone about their nefarious activities. He quotes the very conservative Imprimis in the same breath that he quotes Scripture and doesn’t see any irony in employing the two together.

Finally, Bill ended his hour and fourteen minute long message by quoting from the twenty-fourth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew (an old Armstrongism favorite). For the pastor, Jesus was talking to the members of CGI in this passage – telling them to be alert to what’s going on in the world. Mr. Watson doesn’t want any of his followers to be caught off guard when Christ returns to this earth. Of course, Christ’s real message that his disciples should be prepared at all times – busily doing the things which he had commanded them to do – is completely lost on Bill. For Bill, this passage is an endorsement of his messaging – it validates his preoccupations with headline theology and right-wing politics.

Now, while it has been sad to see Bill and his allies go down this rabbit hole, it is even more disheartening to see people who know better providing a church platform for his messaging. Moreover, their website disclaimer seems weak, ineffectual, and pathetic when it is compared to the determined convictions of Bill and his allies. Yes, the website notes that the “information and opinions expressed on this website do not necessarily reflect the collective beliefs and doctrines of the Church of God International, its members, ministry, or leadership,” but that sure sounds like someone trying to justify something they know is wrong to me. For me, images of Pontius Pilate washing his hands and declaring his innocence come to mind. What do you think?

LCG: Beware of false ministers and misguided teachers who spread lies and false doctrines

 

Living Church of God is warning their followers about false prophets, like Bob Thiel and Dave Pack who are trying to deceive the elect. Calling them false ministers and misguided teachers who speak evil, pretty much describes what is currently going on with both of these men right now. Thankfully, fewer and fewer people are being deceived by these fools as each day passes. Sadly though, there are many sincere people who are still being conned by these liars and agents of darkness.

Rest assured brethren, NOTHING like this will EVER happen in the Living Church of God!

Prove Your Beliefs: Jesus warned that before He returns, “many will come in My name… and will deceive many… even the elect” (Matthew 24:4–5, 24). Satan, the deceiver of the whole world (Revelation 12:9), will use false ministers and misguided teachers who speak evil of the truth (2 Peter 2:1–3) to spread lies and false doctrines (2 Corinthians 11) to confuse even sincere people. How can you avoid being deceived? We are told to examine and prove what we believe and then hold onto what we prove to be true (1 Thessalonians 5:21). We must also study the Scriptures (2 Timothy 2:15) so we know what the Bible actually says about specific issues (Isaiah 8:20). When we firmly establish what is true, we are putting on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11–17) that can help us recognize and resist the efforts of our adversary who wants to confuse and destroy us (1 Peter 5:8–9). Last week we held one follow-up TWP in Charleston, West Virginia, which was attended by three guests. This week we have five TWPs scheduled. One initial presentation is scheduled in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; and four presentations are scheduled in Fiji. Mr. Rob Tyler will give two initial presentations in Lautoka and Suva in Fiji. Mr. Paul Kearns will conduct the follow-up presentations. These will be the first Tomorrow’s World Presentations ever held on the island. All 897 subscribers in Fiji were invited to both presentations. Thank you all for your prayers and support for these presentations as we continue our worldwide effort to preach the Gospel.

During “The Greatest Untold Story! (Part 479),” David C. Pack’s excitement for being able to announce The Restored Church of God would begin to observe new moons was obvious. One of the benefits of dismantling decades-old doctrines of The Worldwide Church of God is being able to be the chief apologist for Herbert W. Armstrong. Dave tears down his doctrines while excusing why.

 

Part 479 – November 11, 2023

@ 35:56 You come, and you worship God on new moons. Now, I have an advantage over Mr. Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong could never access through electronic tools in a rapid-fire string all the verses that pertained to the subject…

 

It is a cryin' shame that technological limitations during HWA's lifetime kept him from thoroughly investigating vital Bible truths to properly fulfill his role as an apostle. If only he and his 2000 ministers had access to modern marvels like the Strong’s Concordance, a pencil, and a piece of paper.

 

Think of all the fantastic things Herbie would have discovered if he could have written down a list of verses to put all the pieces together.

 

@ 36:12 …or, I’ll bet you, had God wanted him to, he would have seen this, and the church would've been keeping new moons all along.

 

God did not want his other “apostle” to figure out something now required for salvation. The logic of Dave's god is quite perplexing, and following along hurts your head.

 

@ 36:21 He [HWA] addressed the question. I looked at some things he said, and he told people, "It's optional. You can do it, but we'll sorta have a Bible study on Friday night ‘cause I’m not sure.” And that became kind of a present truth.

 

Wow, so Herbert W. Armstrong began Friday night Bible studies to honor the new moons, not the Sabbath? That is news to me. It seems pretty counterintuitive to give a Bible study at the beginning of the Sabbath, which is commanded, in order to honor new moons, which are not. I cannot help but wonder if Gary and Dennis have comments about this alternate version of WCG history.

 

Dave really knows how to posthumously honor his Father in the Gospel. HWA allegedly invented a Friday night Bible study to honor new moons, but Dave’s kneejerk reaction was to remove the ones RCG already had.

Those two men were cut from a different cloth.

 

If I were the devil, putting an end to the paltry spiritual food that does not focus on David C. Pack would be delightful. According to Dave, practicing new moons means Christians cannot learn about building holy, righteous character on Friday nights anymore in RCG.

 

To be fair, the religious corruption inside The Restored Church of God permeates to all the speakers, so how biblically nutritious those messages are is open for debate. But, the concept of a blanket "full stop" seems pointless and without merit. This is but a taste of what new moon observance via Dave’s personal judgments looks like. It does not bode well for the RCG brethren. Since the Bible is silent on what to do exactly on a new moon, this is the kind of spit-balling David C. Pack comes up with.

 

 

In true-to-from David C. Pack fashion, he repeated the notion that he would speak again on the new moon the following Tuesday. Being the veteran Packinese interpreter I am, my Davey Senses were tingling that he was going to blow it off.

As things turned out, it was not possible because Dave blew off the Tuesday message. Instead, Stepford Prime gleefully filled Dave’s shoes. He must have felt great joy knowing his cheeks were resting upon the very spot his human idol’s cheeks warmed the faux leather mere days earlier.

But not from Dave. Eager Ed delivered a slobbering Dave Suck-Up Fest, looking like a little boy who got to sit at the adult's table.

For those missing the point, Dave kept repeating he would speak on the first new moon and give “the rest of the story.” But instead, he called in, "No, thank you.”

 

 

In the same manner that all CCG fanatics cannot get through a single day without blurring out “Hillel” like Tourette’s sufferers, David C. Pack cannot get through a single message without reminding us he is Elijah and how damn important he is.

@ 1:25:07 So, no wonder the Jews say they set a place for Elijah at Passover. They do have the Old Testament. They expect to see him at Passover. And I would look, and I would say, “My last name is Passover.” What are we doing in the fall?

 

@ 1:43:16 So the question, Do I restore the knowledge of these things or the practice of them? Does Elijah just restore knowledge, or there's some practices we have to restore? For instance, new moons. Do I restore the knowledge but not the practice?

 

Wade Cox must be tickled pink by all of this. How long before a CCG-chartered airplane drops leaflets on the RCG Campus in Wadsworth explaining to members that Wade Cox “restored the knowledge of new moons” thirty years ago?

 

The reality is that Dave did not restore anything. He does not know how to properly observe new moons but makes it up as he goes along, using the power of presumption and “because I say so” enforcement.

 

@ 1:43:36 Or Third Tithe. Same with Third Tithe. We understand Third Tithe is now off of Cheshvan 1. I presume the church has faithfully rolled their cycle over. So, I restored the knowledge, and then we're rolling now now, we're now we’re restoring the practice.

 

Dave did not restore anything about Third Tithe. He found a way to bilk the brethren out of more money that he knows full well does not benefit a single widow or orphan in The Restored Church of God. It is a full-blown biblical scam.

Update: Observing New Moons – November 14

 

As we heard in the recent message, we are to keep New Moons. How they are kept is an administrative judgment by the Church. To this end, God would expect all things to be done decently and in order (I Cor. 14:40).

 

As Mr. Pack mentioned New Moons are not holy time however they should still be observed. The first day of Keslev this coming Tuesday, will be a normal workday here at Headquarters with a Bible study at 3 PM our time and likely a meal. This is a good model for those in the field to follow—a Bible study and a meal if possible. For this first observance, you do have some flexibility for when and how this takes place. For the first observance, those in Europe and other countries east, for instance, can listen to the livestream from Headquarters though it will technically be past New Moons for them. In a rare circumstance, a congregation may be able to get together to listen to the message, but if you cannot, you can listen to the Bible Study at home either live or listen to the recorded message as soon as you can. This is all consistent with Mr. Armstrong implementing Friday Bible studies in recognition of New Moons as an administrative judgment. To be clear, there is no requirement at this point to take the day off work or take your children out of school.

 

More instructions will come as time allows. In the meantime, we can thank God for opening our understanding of this most important observance.

How they are kept

is an administrative judgment by the Church.

 

This gives Dave and his enablers carte blanche to make whatever they say enforceable doctrine without worrying about the constraints the Bible might place upon them. You would think more in RCG would be concerned with this kind of blank-check religious practice, but those who are still there will smile, nod, and go along for the ride without resistance. Those with any fight in them have already left.

 

The days of brethren counting on the Bible to give them clear answers in matters of how they worship God are over.

 

New Moons are not holy time

however they should still be observed.

 

This means the new moon observance in RCG is literally unholy and renders whether something is holy or not irrelevant. The Restored Church of God has absolute rulership without accountability, and because the Scriptures are silent on this matter, whatever Dave dreams up will be the law until he changes his mind. It does not matter what the rules are; Ed will just keep smiling.

 

For this first observance,

you do have some flexibility

for when and how this takes place.

 

That flexibility was a one-time offer. Do not ever count on flexibility again. If you think that is a joke, wait until you hear what wonderful blessings Edward L. Winkfield III informed the RCG brethren they get the privilege of participating in.

 

This is all consistent with Mr. Armstrong

implementing Friday Bible studies

in recognition of New Moons

as an administrative judgment.

 

Both Dave and Ed said this but provided zero evidence to support it. When Dave has some obscure HWA quote from 1953 or a Good News clipping from any random guy who happened to make his point, he pulls it out and reads it. But that did not happen here.

 

The verbal affirmations of David C. Pack are not reliable sources of fact. If exrcg.org has proven anything, it has proven that. How would a Friday night Bible study on the Sabbath recognize a new moon on a Tuesday? HWA could not make heads nor tails of new moons, so he just let it go. In this, we agree.

 

To be clear, there is no requirement at this point

to take the day off work or take your children out of school.

 

Remember the phrase "at this point.” The new moon on December 12 will be a whole new ballgame, and the heavy requirements will surely come. The consensus among ExRCGers is that Dave will implement monetary offerings on new moons. Why else would he create a new form of uncommanded mandatory worship if he cannot make a few bucks on the side?

The folks at Christian Churches of God have been thanking God for opening their understanding for thirty years, and look at all the good it has done for them. Wade Cox still cannot get recognized when he goes to the grocery store.

 

I wonder what the hirelings on the third floor think about other churches already teaching this stuff. RCG was inspired by God, but CCG was not? Dave was led by God, but Wade was not? How do they get around that?

 

It would be funny if the ccg.org website could track IP Addresses. They could monitor the sudden influx of heavy traffic coming from Wadsworth, Ohio, near the Giant Eagle. However, noting that site’s excruciatingly bland cutting-edge 1995 "look and feel," I doubt there is much horsepower under the hood. Seems like Wade and Dr. Floppy Wrists hired the same webmaster thirty years ago and just keep sending him a monthly check to do nothing but keep the lights on.

Um. Excuse me. What about Holy Days? And I thought the Sabbath was the test commandment. If this is the "most important observance," why does the Bible not record it as a commanded assembly or a holy convocation? That omission says that even to God Almighty, it is NOT most important. Unless, somehow, the translators hosed all of us again in the most colossal way.

 

Come on, guys. One vague reference in the New Testament is all you can find?

 

Colossians 2:16

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

 

And you turned a gnat into a camel. It ain’t worth a Hillel beans. Heh heh heh. The reference in Colossians is just that—a reference. It is not instruction. It is not a command. Given David C. Pack’s track record, taking him at his word is fraught with disappointments. Just think of all the folks who looked forward to him speaking last Tuesday. Wow, it is sad to think that anyone is still excited to hear Dave.

 

When an administrative judgment becomes law based on the assumptions of a blaspheming liar, hypocrite, false prophet, false apostle, and antichrist advocate, you know you have problems. This development does not spell good news for Wade Cox and his crew, either.

 

Just because someone arrived in Kookyville first does not mean the inspiration was divine. It just means there are now two of you in Kookyville to fight over which one should be mayor. Who the winner should be is an administrative judgment.
