Living Church of God: If The Sabbath Is So Important Why Are They Holding Rehearsals On Friday Night?

For a church that expects it members to keep Sabbath from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday night and prohibits children from doing school activities on Friday night, I find it surprising that they are holding choir and orchestra rehearsals on the Friday night before their annual Christmas Winter Family Weekend.  I guess because it is a directive from the boys in Charlotte it is ok. Seems pretty hypocritical to me, but then I'm just a lost back-sliding Laoedician.

Charlotte Family Weekend Update
We again welcome out-of-town guests to participate in the choir. There will be a rehearsal from 5:30 to 6:15 on Friday afternoon, December 21, for those who would like to be part of the choir. For music and more information, just contact Mr. Jonathan McNair at jmcnair@lcg.org
If you play a musical instrument and would like to participate, that would be great also. We’ll have a rehearsal for musicians after the Bible Study on December 21. Contact Mr. Marcus McCullough at mmccullough@lcg.org for more information.

Schedule: Some of the events for the weekend include:
  • Bible Study (Friday evening)
  • Sabbath Service
  • Elegant Dinner Dance
  • Family Games and Sports Day (Sunday)
  • Educational Seminars: Parenting, Teens, Singles, Mature Singles (Monday)
  • Bowling (Monday afternoon)
  • Dressy Casual Dance, Themed: “Our International Family” (Monday evening)
  • Departure (Tuesday)

No surprise here. When has LCG ever been God's church?

Interesting. You have your own celebration of sorts coinciding with Christmas, but it isn’t a Christmas party, because Christmas is pagan. And in having this celebration, somehow you also get a dispensation of grace for breaking the sabbath. I think the proverbial nose of the camel is well under the tent flap.

Anonymous 9:58 PM, LCG is only a part of the whole of God's church. We at the Living church recognize other faithful Christians in other organizations.

There is a lot wrong with LCG, but this item is silly. For as long as I can remember, WCG and the splinters considered it OK to rehearse on the Sabbath for Sabbath music performances such as this LCG choir.

...celebration of sorts coinciding with Christmas...

Better not take Saturdays off work because that coincides with the Sabbath. So you are celebrating the Sabbath, which means you are still in the cult and probably a member of the LCG!

I always knew you were a troll.

If LCG recognizes Christians in other organizations, it should be sharing resources and having joint events.
Otherwise these are meaningless words.
By the actions of each COG group, they show each to be exclusionary.

Do you also include Christians on non COG groups?

So, is it wrong for professing Christians in the world to replace the pagan Saturnalia custom with their Christmas custom, but okay for LCG, UCG, and COGWA to replace the Christmas custom with their Winter Family Weekend custom?

In spite of all their past criticism of X-mass, LCG, UCG, and COGWA all seem to be admitting now that X-mass is great fun and the best time of the year.

Why don't LCG, UCG, and COGWA try to make the annual biblical festivals, such as the FUB and FOT, more fun?

Jesus said it was fine to do good on the Sabbath. Practicing music and the like is certainly a good thing.

The Bible says "do not worship me as the heathen do". WFW is not "worship" and does not have pagan elements involved in its "liturgy" . So it coincides with Xmas? So what? Its a convenient time for most, and again has nothing to do with worshipping the Saturnia or Santa Claus.

It is similar to the concept about eating meat offered to idols. Its just meat in the end! I will eat all the chocolate santas that someone wants to give me! Its just chocolate! The Santa concept is stupid, but the chocolate is still chocolate.

What are some of the complainers against WFW trying to say, that everyone who doesn't believe in Xmas has to stay at home and hide underneath the bed? Even the Apostle Paul went to Mars Hill to debate and teach! Being a non-Xmas keeper does not mean that I have to be superstitious!

But that is not the official line of the splinters. They want the numbers and money, so they pretend and lie, claiming to be the only remaining true church. As a reality test, try discussing the point with your minister. Try telling your fellow members your point, and they will boot you out of the church. If they do, you can join us at Banned.

Fun???? No - services should not be fun, they should be endured while uninspired speakers give recycled sermons.
Practicing music they can perform for 3 to 5 minutes? Why not praise and worship God by having an hour of uplifting music and then shorter messages?
Get together with the other COGs so you do not have a talent shortage.

I think that in time, we’ll understand more about these Family Winter Weekends. If ACOG members start decorating their homes with “family” lights, and having “family” trees, giving “family” presents, etc, we’ll know the true intent.

If the ACOGs had greater influence, maybe Sunday keeping churches could reciprocate by having tent meetings for Christmas on Jeckyl Iand or in Myrtle Beach. Great ecumenical spirit!
