By this time, we should be resigned to all the resignations.
What does this mean for Houston?
All the snobs were in the Houston North church. They all followed their favorite "minister" Franks. Many who were in the Houston South church followed Geise and the whole Seiver clan. Why they would want to go with the snobs of the North is beyond me, the way the North church was, but you know what they say about birds of a feather.
Yes, he had tight-knit cliques in his prior church area, too. Those in the clique knew way too much confidential information about others. Before he left, he elevated those close personal friends to deacons.
As a new member, I was deeply concerned that if you weren't in the ministerial clique, you would never qualify for either the place of safety or the kingdom. Years later, many others confided that they had similar irrational fears as well. It's rather amusing now; but it wasn't then.
I deeply regret ever setting foot inside that church. I had this eerie feeling when arriving at the meeting hall for the very first time, and wanted so much to turn the car around and just get out of there. Sadly, while wrestling with the uncertainties in those few seconds, I allowed myself to be told where to park rather than just driving off. I could have spared myself 13 years of unhappiness and suffering, not to mention a whole lot of money had I listened to that small skeptical voice inside me.
