COG Prophet Speaks Out On Football, Thanksgiving, Breast Enhancements, David Cassidy, and Bikini Coffee Bars

Why is it that all of the Church of God prophets and apostles get upset over the silliest things and yet could care less about deeper issues?

Almost ordained and arrested Elijah, Elijah, Amos, Joshua, Moses, and bitter rejected "son" of Rod Meredith spends his days waxing ineloquently on hundreds of silly topics while ignoring bigger and more important things.
Today, November 23, 2017, it includes his usual attack on football and Thanksgiving:
Today is the national holiday in the USA called Thanksgiving. And despite certain claims, its specific origins are not pagan. But, of course, no Christian needs to celebrate national holidays like it is they do not wish to (cf. Romans 14). And the Bible does condemn gluttony.

One thing that I have noticed on the day called Thanksgiving by those in the USA, is when I have been at many other places than the home I lived in, American football has been playing on television.

For many, other than food and family, football is a major focus of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Should Christians support violent sports like American football?
Then, the Bitter One has to pop off of the death of David Cassidy:
I do remember David Cassidy when he was in the Partridge Family on television. I saw him in a couple of plays decades later. My wife, Joyce, even met him several times.
David Cassidy did not seem to be particularly religious. Perhaps he had some type of Christian faith, perhaps not (he had been Episcopalian).
If he was not a true Christian, is he and the others like him doomed?
No.
It is reasonable to conclude that David Cassidy (and most others who have already died) did not commit true blasphemy against the Spirit, so can be forgiven.

But the most offensives thing of all to the one and only PURE virginal true prophet of God is Bikini coffee shops in Everett, Washington! Oh, the horrors! It is leading men to LUST! LUST I SAY! How dare the women cause men to be held accountable for their inability to control their actions!
Under-dressed women are becoming controversial in the city of Everett, Washington:
November 23, 2017
The city of Everett, about 30 miles north of Seattle, is home to numerous bikini barista espresso stands, where servers dressed in everything from tasteful two-piece swimsuits to pasties and G-strings serve up lattes and Americanos at a drive-thru window.

Everett lawmakers have been steamed about the coffee stands for years – arguing everything from obscenity to mob ties – officials are taking a page out of the headlines and citing a new argument: The skin-flaunting coffee servers could turn men into the next Harvey Weinstein.
He also expresses disgust that Europe over the rising tide of Muslim women at the beach in burqinis.
Over in Europe, we have seen this pushed in another odd direction. Earlier this year, a Muslim woman was barred from using a swimming pool, because she wore a swimsuit known as a burqini. Women should be able to wear full body bathing suits when swimming, etc.
He does not like that France is seeking to prohibit the outfit, and of course, ties this into the right for women to wear what they want for modesty.

Next, his ties into the First Amendment of the United States Constitution:
Now, getting back to the First Amendment of the Constitution of the USA, it states:
First amendment — Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
But is it always wise to say anything anywhere?

Is it wise to go before as many people as possible and speak insults to them?

While it may be “legal,” some may get so upset as to take violent action against the insulter. While that action by the insulted would be illegal, it certainly was not wise to go around intentionally trying to insult people.

Furthermore, it is not wise or proper to attempt to incite male lust as many businesses (especially those involved in entertainment) try to do.
Just like Muslim men who cannot control their lusts, Bob Thiel cannot control his.  He hates being incited to lust!

He says:
Adultery is prohibited by the seventh commandment and lust by the tenth commandment.

Jesus and the Apostle Paul warned against attempting to provoke, stir up, or mentally succumb to sexual lust. Thus, they are also condemning pornography, including dressing inappropriately.

What was considered immoral dress in the mid-20th century is now more modest dress than what many young females now wear. Another trend, which is appearing in the USA, as well as Europe, is for women’s clothing to become more and more sheer. So sheer, that one can often look through the clothing to the skin (slips and other covering items are often missing). This is not a positive trend but is another that I wanted to mention and it is a type of pornography.
Many of the underclothed do not blush. They think they are clever, and like adulteresses, act like they did nothing wrong.
20 This is the way of an adulterous woman:
She eats and wipes her mouth,
And says, “I have done no wickedness. (Proverbs 30:20)
But inciting lust is wicked!

What is considered to be acceptable dress for public display (mainly for females) continues to the trend to show more skin, more cleavage (and more and more women have decided to have “breast enhancement” apparently for display), and more of their figures. This is not good. And this is not just limited to television or the movies.
The idea that women need to be almost totally naked to work in restaurants, swim, etc. is wrong.

Promoting lust is wrong, promoting modesty is not.
Promoting lust is bad for humanity.
Life is so hard for the prophets of God. Satan is constantly attacking them with lustful and impure thoughts as they incessantly beg for more and more money.

Come on, Bob, get happy!

Armstrongism may be one of the unhappiest religions, at least judged by the condition of its members, who are pressured to put on a false happy-face but who in private are full of fear and doubt and sadness.

You hit the nail on the head. Never have I seen a group of people who present themselves as such miserable people. They are constantly grumbling about something. If their religion really was as pure as they claim they would be filled with joy and love. Instead, they wallow in bitterness and find something wrong with everything in life. We live in a beautiful world filled with beautiful people that they seem to deliberately want to overlook. Imagine sitting in the Thiel or Malm households today as daddy bitches about paganism and that vile football on TV. What a miserable day for all.

The Washington Post has an article up about how fearful people tend to be conservative.

At Yale, we conducted an experiment to turn conservatives into liberals. The results say a lot about our political divisions.

(It may be behind a paywall.)

The most frequent command in the Bible is "Fear not". If members of the COGs, who are notoriously conservative, are as fearful as social scientists say, what does this say about their trust in God or the legitimacy of their faith?

Bobs comment on the first amendment shows that he's a HWA Borg. The authors of the constitution believed that the only role of government is self defense, ie, to protect peoples property and lives (life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness). Hence the many restraints on government. People are to be left free to live their lives as they see fit ie self responsibility.
Bob ignores this and focuses on (basic)wisdom. So to him, freedom is not to be affirmed, validated and given it due value. This is typical minister garbage.

I spent 13 years in the Worldwide Church of God (well, Church of Armstrong). It was the most miserable period in my life. Everyday, every moment I recognized that I simply didn’t, and couldn’t keep The Law required for salvation. No matter how I tried, sermon after sermon I learned just how I had failed, and that I was therefore headed for the Lake of Fire. I’d never be allowed in the Place of Safety.

By being in the Worldwide Church of Armstrong, I was continually condemned; by my sinful inadequacies, by the continual “corrections” from the pulpit.

The Churches of Armstrong: Years of Tears and Fears. Joyless hopelessness.

Glad I’m out, and now have authentic salvation from my belief in Jesus Christ. But the mental wounds persist. I struggle, still thinking I can never please God. Working at true discipleship each day.

How the hell does he know if David Cassidy was a Christian or not? He said Mr. Cassidy had been Episcopalian as if that disqualified him as a Christian. It makes me sick to think that those assholes in the ACOG believe that if you are not apart of the Armstrong movement you are not a Christian.

When is Prophet Bob going to get into more serious matters? A sixth grader could make the types of observations that are quoted in this post.

anyone what thinks that david cassidy is worthy of comment in this day and age is simply, well, old...

It'd require effort, BB. Takes none to simply wave his finger and scold people who won't be reading his material anyway.

Anon 5:49 said, "It was the most miserable period in my life. Everyday, every moment I recognized that I simply didn’t, and couldn’t keep The Law required for salvation." Sounds like you were suffering from salvation anxiety as Martin Luther and others. A good treatment is a reading of Romans where you find that salvation is by faith, not works.
Why do WCG focus on the minors? Because it is far easier to do than to practice true religion (James 1:27) and to treat others in a loving way. Rituals are easier to keep than true religion.

I watched a TV documentary on David Cassidy. In his prime, he was super popular. Typically his concerts were sold out, and this was in the largest venues. I loved his 'hippy' shirts and hairdo. A nice contrast to the neo military cloths and hairdo of the men in Herbs cult.

Mr. Thiel and Mr. Malm would be the happiest living in Afghanistan or perhaps Saudi Arabia.

Bob Thiel wrote: "...It is reasonable to conclude that David Cassidy (and most others who have already died) did not commit true blasphemy against the Spirit, so can be forgiven..."

For Bob Thiel: why bring up that blasphemy regarding David Cassidy...or even "most others?"

Did Jesus Christ not tell us the following?

"Verily I say unto you, ALL SINS SHALL BE FORGIVEN unto the sons of men, AND BLASPHEMIES wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:" Mark 3:28

Did not the Apostle Paul tell you, Bob Thiel, the following?

"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, NOT IMPUTING their trespasses unto them..." 2 Corinthians 5:19

Do you, Bob Thiel, DARE to blaspheme God and the POWER of His Holy Spirit and say in your heart that there are really some people that are stronger than God who can override His Will and “blow it”.........that is, not be forgiven their trespasses?

While Bob Thiel points his finger at everyone else, but himself, he fails to see the remaining fingers on his own hand. For example, Bob Thiel, thinking solely about women and sex, wrote: "...Promoting lust is wrong..."

But lust also deals with many other things!

I John 2:15 “Love NOT the world, neither the THINGS that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is NOT in him.
:16 “For ALL that is in the world, the LUST of the flesh, and the LUST of the eyes, and the PRIDE of life, is NOT of the Father, but is of the world.”

How about Bob being that "doubly-blessed prophet" he thinks he is? Might there be any lust in his desire for something that does not really apply to him? Bob Thiel, what thinkest thou? And to think lust may not be within you means that you would deny the following verse:

"Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth IN US LUSTETH to ENVY?" James 4:5

Oh, Bob Thiel, I guess you think that only applies to "true Christians" only? Really? If you profess to be one of them, then it applies to you. It is all a part of life. It is all a part of a creation MADE SUBJECT TO VANITY (Rom 8:20)...and not willingly!

Is there any lust and/or envy involved with believing you have been somehow "doubly-blessed" something or other into some position or office you have no business being it?

I predict a day will come when you, Bob Thiel, will thank God that Jesus Christ's words regarding blasphemy in Mark 3:38 prove to be true for all of the sons of men......and daughters too!

Time will tell...

John

5:37, read Article 1 Section 8 to see what the authors of the Constitution thought the role of government should be. It's a lot more than self-defense. Perhaps you should broaden your news sources.

According to the declaration of independence, "to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men.." That was the intent of the constitution. And that's the way it was interpreted by early presidents. For instance, they refused to even give moneys to victims of shipwrecks or fires, pointing out that charity is not authorized in the constriction. It's only the 'general welfare' term which been tortured to justify present policy. The term was debated and regretted by some of its framers. Yes, the document could have been written better.

I never really got into the Partridge Family, because I hadn't really liked the Cowsills, the real life group that the show was based on. Too Bubble Gum. Too "Republican Hippie". A little bit too commercial.

But, that's just me. Like the Osmonds, and the original Jackson 5, or the Bay City Rollers, many people enjoyed their music. It's sad that David Cassidy had to fight so many figurative demons throughout his life. His father, Jack, was also wired in some of the same ways.
