This is the same dude that proclaims he is the one and only COG leader preaching the truth originally restored by Herbert Armstrong. Not by Jesus, mind you, but Herb.
Here he is pitching the overpriced supplements that he calls "food", plus he has covered up all of his books of the crap theology he preaches. Instead of a big fat Bible thrust in our faces, it's a bottle of "food".

Bob will never be accused of being a slick salesman. Typical of a naturopath, anecdotal tales can be wrongly assigned meaning they don't have. Of course, "this may not work for everyone" takes care of that.
Like religion, the vitamin supplement industry is unregulated by the government. You might not be getting what is printed on the label of these supplements. Most "proofs" of the effectiveness of these supplements are based on testimonials and not on sound scientific research. Anyone who promotes supplements and other such products, can't be trusted for their theology.
Or maybe you can just eat liver. I love liver & onions. I don't see how it can help my liver by itself though. A proper diet is probably all anyone needs.

Bob has a PhD and he is a specialist so he is an extremely smart man and understands what he is doing.
Having a PhD doesn't mean you can accept what he says. Dr. Linus Pauling was awarded two Nobel Prizes. His research, which he claimed showed that Vitamin C can prevent or cure the common cold and some forms of cancer, proved to be flawed. His PhD and Nobel Prize was in Chemistry, not medicine. So don't accept everything someone with a title (Rev. Dr.), or a degree (PhD. etc.) says without peer review and replication of research by others.
HWA, Jim Jones, etc. never allowed their research to be peer reviewed or questioned. Their "research" was flawed, and their conclusions were in error.

The phrases "smart man" and "knows what he is doing" are completely separate conditions and do not automatically go together.
This may surprise you, but there are professionals, such as doctors, lawyers, and accountants who carried "C" averages in college or university. There are also institutes of higher learning whose degrees are deemed as having much greater value, and often indicate greater brilliance. A doctorate from an Ivy League university, as an example, is of far more value than a degree from Ambassador College. A two year degree from community college is worth more than a PhD from some diploma mill.
So I guess I misunderstood one of those Church of God "mandates."

Actually, only a fool eats liver. The liver is the blood's filter. Any and all toxins which are not expelled from the animal's body are retained by the liver itself. These include antibiotics and pesticides common to modern farming practices, and in some cases hormones. The tablets might be the best way to go, assuming that these toxins are edited out by the processing processes. There are other foods rich in nutrients which should be limited or not be eaten, such as tuna fish which all contains mercury, or kidneys which prepare liquids for the urinary function.
Anyone basing their dietary habits on old Good News articles from the '60s, which may have entered your family culture through your parents or grandparents, needs to do a serious update.

In classical Armstrongism, there was an inconsistency in the treatment of health issues. This inconsistency may yet exist in the derivative splinter denominations. I am not familiar with the current stance these organizations have concerning medical care. My guess is that they have diverse views.
A couple of incidents to give you a flavor of how it used to be. Back in the early years of my membership in the WCG, medicine was looked upon as something evil. I was majoring in pharmacy in college and was advised by the Pasadena Letter Answering Department that pharmacy was like sorcery and a Christian should not be a pharmacist. I dropped the major. I knew of a student at AC who refused to have an appendectomy and almost died. After much suffering, the infected appendix actually caused a perforation in his skin and drained, saving his life. He was regarded as a great hero of faith for refusing a minor but life-saving traditional medical procedure. And I must say that he was, in fact, being true to what he had been taught even unto the giving of his life.
The inconsistency in the Armstrongism of that day is this: resorting to traditional medicine was regarded as faithless but taking vitamins, supplements and using odd dietary practices was regarded as faithful. For example, taking a high dose vitamin C tablet is regarded as faithful but taking an antibiotic is faithless. But both are procedures that involve resorting to something other than the healing power of God. And if one wants to claim a criterion of naturalness, the antibiotic could be more “natural” than the high dose vitamin C. The industrially created high dose vitamin C occurs nowhere in nature. You would have to unnaturally eat a bushel of oranges to get the effect of the high dose vitamin C. Whereas, the antibiotic might be a natural product of a mold – even the type of mold that you might consume on cheese. Regarding the principle of faith in God’s healing power and only God’s healing power with no other agencies, both “natural” supplements and medications fall into the same class. The user is looking to something other than God’s intervention for healing in this model of faith.
It would be interesting to know what model of faith this preacher adheres to. Is there an internal inconsistency in what he advocates just as there was in classical Armstrongism?

Yes, back in the day, Gene Scarborough had his "Granny's Pantry", a health food store, in Pasadena, but Gene actually was an elder and did not have the intellectual vanity or delusions of being a prophet which Bob has. Natural foods and vitamin supplements were considered to be very much a part of the WCG culture in those days. I recall that shortly after my parents bought into the Armstrong scam, we made our first trip from the suburbs into the city to get whole grain cereals and natural, unrefined sugar. Somewhere along the line, the dreaded teaspoonfull of cod liver oil entered our lives during the winter cold season. Yuck!
I believe that in those days, Bob Thiel would never have been allowed to be publishing his views where brethren could read them, although we did not have the internet back then. It would have been considered presumptuous. The problem is that Rod Meredith actually pandered to Bob in a way that HWA would never have done. Bob's problem festered and was allowed to rise to critical mass, and here we are today with his third rate cartoon-caricature of an ACOG running amuck and providing daily entertainment similar to a disruptive adolescent in the classroom.
Freedoms must be used in responsible and constructive ways, as we use them here, which is why I am so grateful for the internet. Others use it to spread all manner of crap in their ego driven projects that ruin peoples' lives. You can always recognize a vanity project when the perp gives himself a Biblical title, especially when he complains that nobody accepts him in that role.
He starts off with "This is doctor Robert Thiel." In European countries the title of doctor is typically publically bestowed only on medical doctors. In America it's more of a mixed bag with the title of doctor in non medically fields usually reserved for class rooms or similar.
Bob starting with the title doctor while holding a "medicine" implies that he is a medical doctor. This is religious type guile.
Bob should study Dave Packs smooth speaking style versus his own jerky speaking. Practice in the mirror Bob. Even Hitler did that.
Didn't the LCG "clarify" their position on healing? They didn't "clarify" they changed the teaching. They went from HWA's "no doctors, vaccinations (monkey pus) or medication (unless you are HWA) and no surgery (unless RCM need his retina reattached to "do whatever you want." The hypocrisy was staggering. Hypocrisy, ignorance and arrogance were the hallmarks of the WCG.
I don't think that the WCGs position of no doctors or medicines was monolithic. Different ministers gave different advice on this matter. I think many ministers knew that the church position was wrong.
In Mark 2:17 Christ stated that "it's not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick." That hardly sounds like a condemnation of doctors.

So we have Rod's kids to thank for this? What morons they were! Look at the terrible wasteland of disinformation they opened up on the world. After getting sick on halibut (at Squaw Valley FOT 1966; Garner Ted said later if I remember right many got sick on undercooked halibut at the commissary) and not feeling well after eating tuna years later I finally looked at arms length at the exterior skin of halibut and tuna. Looks like rubber more than scales. The Jews think halibut and tuna are kosher but I don't and no longer eat halibut and tuna. (sarcasm) ACOG splinters all profess to practice the same basic package of doctrines, with minor differences introduced by their leaders as new truths, or further understanding. New truths give the appearance of growth. I never fully understood why HWA maligned his former mentors (COG7), and labeled them as "dead". I suppose that doing so provided the model for how ACOGs acknowledge one another. Frankly, I cobble all of them into a monolith, referring to all of them as being "the duped", but it seems like people of similar belief systems could accomplish more good while impacting the prevailing surrounding system by treating one another as brothers and sisters. It would also help if they extended this ecumenism to the Christian groups who happen to keep a different day as well.

What? Rod didn't need any cover for criticizing the other ACOGs. He did that himself, in abundance, especially during the mid-00s. Zeus became highly pissed, and sentenced Prometheus to be tied to a rock, and to have an eagle eat his liver every single day for all eternity! It would grow back overnight, only to be eaten once again the following day!
Bob Thiel attempted to steal the fire of LCG, and has now been sentenced to a life of selling liver pills as opposed to using that fire as a catalyst to prophecy! Hail Dr. Prometheus C. Thiel! (As my Texas buddies might add, "Hail yes!")
And yet Leviticus 3:4, 15 tells us not to eat liver or kidneys, and we should avoid eating liver.
