I lived in Israel for two years during the premiership of Menachem Begin, whom I believe was one of the best PMs Israel has produced. I never got to see him until I moved to London when I unintentionally met him while on a ‘visit’ to Downing Street as a young tourist. I got within 2-3 metres from him, he was in a car and very recognisable, parked as he was outside number 10. Security was present but very light. Them were the days. Never got inside number 10, didn’t have the contacts or cash or presence as an Evangelical had, even one of Herbies statue, lol. The world has changed enormously since, people have passed from the scene and we are at a time unrecognisable to how we all thought or envisioned it would be.

300 days travelling over many countries and years achieved in fact - zilch. They are all dead now and current leaders wouldn't have a clue re Armstrong. Except perhaps king Charles and he would disown all if he knew the fake apostles real credentials as fast as he disowned his brother Andrew

Isaiah 40:10 - referred to in part 3 - Armstrong refers to 'work before Him' as being his worldwide work prophesied. He uses KJV
KJV ''Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him''
but from 2 literal versions
YLT version ''Lo, the Lord Jehovah with strength cometh, And His arm is ruling for Him, Lo, His hire is with Him, and His wage before Him.''
LSV ''Behold, Lord YHWH comes with strength, "" And His arm is ruling for Him, "" Behold, His hire [is] with Him, and His wage before Him.''

Another example of the smart presenter prophesying things that aren't there

Yes a different time for sure. One is amazed at Armstrong's brazen self confidence in watching these 3 tapes. He had no idea of things prophetical, but acted as if he was an important messenger.

Duke of York has not been disowned by his brother the King. He's currently 'retired' from the public eye.

He’s had his million plus dollar allowance stopped so far as I know , his security detail stopped, and been asked to vacate the fancy mansion he’s been living in at tax payer expense for many years, and all royal duties ceased
Not too far off of being disowned but perhaps a better word could have been used

Remembering the heyday of HWA and Worldwide. I remember being told all the great accomplishments being done by HWA on his foreign travels. Sadly, it turned out to be smoke & mirrors. No spreading the Gospel of Christ and his sacrifice, just millions of tithe dollars spent with no real return.

Anonymous said...

That tithe & offering (travel the world) money could have been spent on buying small buildings for local church congregations. Should have invested in it's own members. Oh well

One man's accomplishments turn out to be another's damages.

The massive amount of member funds supporting an extravegant lifestyle of best hotels , gift giving, and best dinners out over many years is no gospel message. And in any event Armstrong’s gospel of prophecy is not the gospel we read in the Bible making it totally futile. What an absolute farce and vanity it all was.

Indeed it was not the gospel we read of - amazing it went in for so long

Well Done about time people know this

btw. If this documentary proves anything (if there is any truth in it) they might just be onto the rise of the catholic (pagan) church in Rome.......nck

Are any of those expensive gifts that HWA gave away on Ebay or Craigslist , on sale for the holidays?

I know, you start rereading the bible and start seeing how Paul and those other apostles were treated and the difficulty it was to preach the gospel. And these guys flying around in jets, staying in all the finest hotels around the world. It's a different scenario. Their gospel of prophecy is indeed futile.

I saw the Griffin limited edition yesterday with original 1969 package for about 9000 dollars Tonto....

If you had achieved something relevant in life you could have been awarded it for free..... Nck

Travel is often useful in providing temporary escape from one's figurative demons. It's also a way of charging up the batteries. HWA badly needed escape from the repercussions of the Disappointment of 1975, the revolt of about 40% of his ministers, the loss of GTA to "the work", and the court ordered receivership. I believe he made these trips because he could. He just needed the personal validation. In sheer magnitude, it couldn't quite equal leading the church to the place of safety and ultimately to meet and greet Jesus Christ, but as a purely physical substitute it was probably as close as he could come to that.

Do you mean Rick Griffin's 1969 artwork for the cover of the Grateful Dead's Aoxomoxoa Album, nck?

BB... You are able to believe that because somehow, based on false data, you have managed to convince yourself that the church dwindled in numbers and influence after you or gta for that matter left.

Quite the contrary.

No the Griffin Steunen HWA, gave to most of the 300 worldleaders he met.

Got it. The Dead are part of my personal culture. Griffin Steunen is not.

Not really, nck. My personal leaving had zero effect on the church. They didn't even shun me. They did utilize my skills on occasion after I had left. GTA leaving had a very minimal immediate impact, but HWA lost the one who had the natural talents, and whom he had groomed and trained as his heir. HWA was of the chess playing mentality, and knew that once his son had left, it was a time bomb, leaving no logical choice in successors. I mean, Joe Tkach??? Come on! I liked the guy, and his son, but neither had that dynamic Armstrong powerful personality.

Temporary condition of the church in a brief segment of time is not important as compared to the condition in which the empire finds itself today. That's what tells the tale.

Joe Sr. at the time seemed to be the more managerial type instead of the evangelist type. Looked like a good choice. The only thing that ties it all together is his Chicago roots as millionaires row was built by Chicagoans and HWA had worked for the Chicago trade journals etc.....

Joe Jr we from Tatooine only came to be familiar with years into the propulsion and ascendancy to the top when at the Feast I accidentally stumbled into the preparations of the Joe Tkach message and noticed that our Pastor only showed the Sermon and not the Sermonettes given by Joe Jr and replaced that with a local Sermonette. (several years in a row). Of course this prevented a lot of questioning since since 1987 already the hardliners started noticing changes that most people deemed necessary, yet some regarded as the canary in the coalmine smelling gas.

The Empire is gone after it served its purpose during the Cold War. (1992 end of story) Now the American Empire will be gone......(and be replaced with the Gentile version of power)

I for one am not really terribly worried about the prospects of a Gentile empire, nck. Cleisthenes was the fifth century BCE father of Athenian Democracy, after all! The Romans were and are Gentiles. And , it isn't as if all people who are called "gentiles" are stupid, or uncivilized. HWA interacted quite effectively with Gentile leaders around the world.

The post WWII Boomer "empire" was always time and date stamped. So, other people from other cultures will be getting a voice that perhaps they should have had all along. We Anglo-Saxon gentiles, or German gentiles, who together have comprised the majority, won't have the dominant voice. It must now be shared. Just as we find in Armstrongism, the hardline conservatives will have a big problem with that, mainly because they see differing opinions not as differing opinions, but their side as good, and their opposing counterparts as being evil. That is not even rational or logical thinking.

My fears more or less center on the temporary upheaval as hardliners fight the inevitable. I believe it's going to do a lot of damage. Their cure is much more destructive than what they have identified as the disease.

Agreed BB! The "Protestant Empire" seems to have been a brief interlude between 300 and a 100 years depending on ones viewpoint. Or 180 years if one is an Armstrongist.

As compared to the thousands of years the Chinese and Indian people had the largest GDP.

Kishore Mahbubani former Singapore diplomat writes about it.
