The problem comes into play when someone with a track record as a know-it-all uses those phrases, and people had based their life decisions on what he told them at the time, not realizing that he had no idea what he was talking about. Ministers are salesmen! Caveat Emptor!
I'm surprised that Dave admits to his followers his lack of understanding on some points. It also means that he feels secure and un-threatened in his self exalted position. It's a admission of his undue influence over his members.
This raises the suspicion that Dave is casting doubt on the bible as a means of boosting his influence over his members. That is, if Dave says one thing, but the bible something different, who does one believe?
