How Long Was/Is Your Connection With the WCG or Related Groups?
Exposing the underbelly of Armstrongism in all of its wacky glory! Nothing you read here is made up. What you read here is the up to date face of Herbert W Armstrong's legacy. It's the gritty and dirty behind the scenes look at Armstrongism as you have never seen it before! With all the new crazy self-appointed Chief Overseers, Apostles, Prophets, Pharisees, legalists, and outright liars leading various Churches of God today, it is important to hold these agents of deception accountable.
Here is our suggested format for Sabbath services on May 25, 2013:
- 2-3 hymns (we are using the 1974 Bible Hymnal from the old WCG, and in most areas, the Choral Accompaniment).
- Opening prayer.
- Sermonette. Here is a link to one: Does God Use Weather? There is also some information related to this in the article titled: Weather Blessings and Sorrows.
- Announcements (if any; though for many it will be this letter) and one hymn.
- Sermon which for most will be a recorded one titled: The Ten Commandments: Loving God. Others sermons are also available at the ContinuingCOG channel.
- Final hymn.
- Closing prayer.
We recognize, and have noticed, various problems with certain sermonette and sermon videos. We tried another new microphone this week, which also did not work properly, so went back to an earlier one.
The sermonettes we suggest are normally posted at the Bible News Prophecy channel. Those tend to be in the 10-20 minute range. We have an editor for those who live over 200 miles away, and he puts in the scriptures and the opening and closing screens. Otherwise these are not edited. We have also made some changes as to how we video these and I believe that this will result in them becoming better over time.
Our sermons are normally posted at the ContinuingCOG channel. These normally have had no editing. These are sermons filmed live as given here in Arroyo Grande, California. Because of this, audience noises are heard from time to time and we still do not have an appropriate way to totally prevent them. In addition, there were microphone issues for this week’s suggested sermon, and we believe we now know how to greatly reduce those particular ones. So, as you listen to it, please realize that we believe we will have less of those issues overall in the future.
Elijah presented a stark choice to Israel, shortly before putting to death in the people’s presence the 450 prophets of Baal: “Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt you between two opinions? If the Lord be God, follow Him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word” (I Kgs. 18:21). The question applies: Will you copy ancient Israel, and “answer God not a word”?
The decision that will soon face you is the same one Israel (the Old Testament type of the New Testament Church) faced over and over, and that many thousands before you have faced since Christ built His New Testament Church. God tells you He does not accept indecision—that you cannot serve two masters—that you cannot halt between two opinions. God does not permit you to “answer Him not a word.” To make no choice is to make the WRONG CHOICE!
There is simply no way that individual ministers will be permitted to continue in their role without acknowledging the great servant that they had so long rejected—that they had consciously or unconsciously relegated to the dustbin of history. Without Mr. Armstrong’s over 52 years of incredible perseverance, resourcefulness, dedication and faithfulness against staggering obstacles and so many enemies, these ministers would all have been somewhere else doing something else. This is because they would never have learned the truth. Zerubbabel, now having died over 27 years ago, has been forgotten right along with the vast difference he taught between clean and unclean, holy and unholy. Mr. Armstrong must be remembered for what he was—what he did. Several times the ministry is told to “consider” in this context. In fact, until they do, these ministers will remain blocked from an enormous amount of understanding regarding what will happen going forward. They will simply be unable to grasp the coming size and scope of God’s Work that will now ensue. (Just one other point would be that there would be no foundation in place to understand who is Joshua, as well as this man’s role following Zerubbabel and preceding Christ’s Return. Zerubbabel’s identity paves the way to knowing who is Joshua! Without this knowledge, Zechariah 3 [describing and explaining how to identify Joshua] and Zechariah 4 [describing and confirming who is Zerubbabel, but also introducing the Two Witnesses, also of the end-time] would remain locked away from their understanding. While explaining Joshua’s identity is not the purpose here, being unable to recognize who is God’s final leader would COMPLETELY end their ability to serve God’s people. All would agree, no matter who they now think he is, he would only be found in one place—one House—one Church! Finally, Joshua’s identity does not lead you to Zerubbabel’s identity but Zerubbabel’s does lead you to Joshua. This is but one more reason Zerubbabel receives a signet apparently different from all other men.)
The United Church of God just published a Council Report that included a large section about the role of women. To watch aggressive, worldly, feminist women “leaders” in the United Church of God virtually dictate to that church in public how they believe women should be “used” and “treated”—and have a voice—is one of the most shocking open displays of rejecting plain biblical standards that I have seen in my 47 years in God’s Way. On top of this, this organization trumpeted their shameful, Bible-rejecting, world-copying position to the whole world on the Internet. This is a classic example of how people (in this case some women, women are half of all whom God calls) who wish to return to true godliness will have to COME OUT of this kind of worldliness—and uncleanness. The alternative for women is to be left out of God’s coming Temple “reformation.” ALL such compromise (standards, traditions and doctrines) will be left behind. Hopefully most women will not choose to be left behind.
The remnant MINISTRY will be told in verse 19 that before they can do more work (pastor and serve brethren) in God’s Church—before they can even receive God’s basic blessing again—they must remember their former shameful conduct. They must never forget the paltry fruits of their collective efforts when they were cut off from God. The next verse continues this reminder from God.
2:17: “I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labors of your hands; yet you turned not to Me, says the Lord.”
This is strong language by God—and action. God says He SMOTE the ministry’s labors with blasting, mildew and hail. The Hebrew for “smote” involves a long, sobering definition. It means “to strike, beat, give wounds, kill, make slaughter, punish, slaughter, slay, smite, strike, wound.” Obvious symbols are again used here because blasting, mildew and hail cannot be literal. God is not sending actual hail onto ministers or groups, or hot, dry winds (blasting) on them. These three elements represent destruction, but not complete destruction. The Hebrew for “blasting” can also mean “blight,” which is disease. Hot, dry winds would certainly have no effect on a church. This picture describes the scene in all the splinters today. These organizations truly are afflicted with spiritual blight and disease. Also, mildew does not refer to too much moisture present. It comes from a Hebrew word that means “paleness, whether of persons from fright.” See the point. God is sending FEAR into these groups in an attempt to WAKE THEM UP. The kinds of things God is doing has left people pale with fear. GET THIS because conditions will grow worse.
Something absolutely fascinating quietly appears in verse 15, and you must not overlook it. Not readily visible without careful reading, there has been a crucial change in the look and SIZE of God’s Church. Let’s see. First, the phrase “from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the Temple of the Lord” obviously refers to individual Christians working in God’s Church again. Think. The subject has not suddenly moved to a physical temple and literal stones put in place thousands of years ago in Zerubbabel’s ancient temple. (Take a moment to stop and read I Peter 2:4-5 describing how God’s people are “living stones” in His Temple.) Now notice that the term “HOUSE of the Lord” is no longer used. God’s Church is now described as a “TEMPLE.” Instead of being a bayith—a “House”—the Hebrew word God now uses is heykal, meaning “in the sense of capacity…a large public building, such as a palace or temple…” Heykal means from this point forward a larger structure is in place, with many more stones having become present to construct “God’s building” (I Cor. 3:9) into something now much bigger—a TEMPLE! This so perfectly fits the description of a significant and maybe very large remnant coming to work in a House that is suddenly now the size of a palace-like Temple. No more or less God’s Church either way, the building has grown much larger. It is no coincidence that the New Testament also specifically describes God’s Church as both a “House” (I Tim. 3:15; I Pet. 4:17) AND a “Temple” (I Cor. 3:16; II Cor. 6:16; Eph. 2:21). The Greek for “House” is oikos and “Temple” is naos. Their meanings line up with bayith and heykal.
Recalling Haggai 1:4, God’s House plainly no longer “lies waste.” It has become the larger, grander TEMPLE to which Christ will return, and after many more living stones are added as a result of the short but immensely big and powerful Work ensuing from the Temple’s newfound size, strength and resources! Also, all its competition “went away.”
