Ian Boyne Dies!

The shocking news from Jamaica is that Ian has died.  Ian was the only COG minister who had the integrity to talk across the aisle with those he disagreed with and also had the wherewithal to acknowledge that Armstrongism was fatally flawed and needed to be reinvented it is to survive.  He knew firsthand how Thiel, Flurry, Pack, Malm and others were ripping members lives apart with their legalism and outright lies.

I had several discussions with Ian over the last couple of years and we were both surprised at the things we agreed upon.  Many times he said he was almost getting to the point of being borderline agnostic at times.  Eh was widely read in his interests in books which included books on atheism, evolution, cults and other issues.

RJRNews had this to say:

Ian Boyne is dead
Veteran Journalist Ian Boyne is dead.
Mr. Boyne died this morning at the University Hospital of West Indies in St. Andrew.
Mr. Boyne was hospitalised earlier this month and was released shortly after.
He was host of Profile and Religious Hardtalk, aired on our sister station Television Jamaica (TVJ), as well as a columnist for the Sunday Gleaner.
In his early years, Ian Boyne worked with the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), then known as the Agency for Public Information (API) in the seventies.
He also worked for various public sector agencies, serving the Government of Jamaica in the area of public information.
He returned to the JIS at the turn of the century and at the time of his death was the agency's Deputy Executive Director. There, he hosted the agency's interview programme, Issues and Answers.
Ian Boyne was perhaps best known as host of Television Jamaica's long running  interview show, Profile, which started in the early 80s on the predecessor station, JBC TV, and for his weekly column in the Sunday Gleaner.
His interview with eight time Olympic Gold Medalist Usain Bolt is one of his most memorable on Profile
A decade and a half ago, he was asked to host Religious Hardtalk, a new programme on RJR94 FM.

Shock And Grief ... Social Media Reactions To Ian Boyne's Passing
There has been an outpouring of shock and grief on social media following the passing of veteran journalist Ian Boyne.‎Boyne passed away in hospital this morning after a brief illness.
He had only recently suffered a series of heart attacks and was at home recovering but had to be readmitted on the weekend.
Here are some of the comments posted on Twitter:
@AndrewHolnessJM: It is with deep sadness that I acknowledge the death of veteran journalist and a true friend Ian Boyne. This is a shock to me. I will make a statement soon.
@karendmadden: Even Jamaica's dancehall referenced Ian Boyne. Man crossed every walk of life.
Cordel Green: "He held a neutral space in a polarised environment. He leaves a legacy which will serve as a solid guidance and foundation of reliable quality and substance."
@VicMelhadoDaley: A phenomenal journalist and legend has passed but has left a great legacy behind; may his soul RIP. #Condolences to his family.
@kryticalmind: Waking up to such disheartening news about Mr. Boyne. He fed families with inspiration through the profiles of Jamaican and Black Excellence. Immeasurable impact on the psyche and aspirations of many, including my own. A life well spent and well lived, Ian.
@yaneekpage: I can’t even process the magnitude of this loss for Jamaica. Devastated. Rest well Ian Boyne  More here: Jamaica Gleaner

Ian was one of the good guys. He wasn't abusive from what I learned from him.

Last month I had a little back and forth with him where he showed his humor about my Thanksgiving graphic. Rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear this. I hope that Ian had a good right hand man that he had mentored and shown his progressive and thoughtful management style.

He approached us as a friend, and he had the wisdom not to push our buttons. Ian was never stereotypical in any way. The world is a poorer place without him. How can this be? Deep sadness.

Everybody goes sometime someway. He was a good man who should be respected, and he will be missed.

i have often wondered about the nature and science of heart attacks: looking back when i was in sabbath services i now believe that a man that was having an episode of heavy sweating and some nausea during services was actually in a state of cardiac arrest, even though at the time no one understood this...

that same man did die of a heart attack some months later...

also, my last conversation with my father was on the phone and his voice was weak, sounding like he had just woke up: i didnt think much of it at the time cuz he loved his afternoon naps and i thought i might have awakened him, but later on they found him dead in his bathroom...

in the drive way was his riding mower, that had stalled, where this 71 year old man, a former high school football player, had pushed it up towards the garage...

he had literally dropped dead of a heart attack when he went in the house...

my father was in my mind the greatest father a black child could have, having raised three girls and a son by himself in the Church of God and none of us were delinquent, or suffered the things that plague many black children of single parent households...

yet, at the end of the day we are but flesh, and we all will die...

I can't help wandering how successful Ian would have been as a public figure if he wasn't a social justice warrior.
My condolences to his family and friends.

A voice of reason gone way too soon.

what are the grieving members of Church of God international supposed to make out this post, where your informing people that a well known elder was at times admitting to being borderline agnostic. Too brutal too soon.

I observed a man at a restaurant table across from me just starting while others laughed m talked. I was an EMT at the time too. He was pale, loosening his tie to breathe and got up and left. I followed him outside where he collapsed on lawn. Called for help, started CPR but he died. I taught CPR for ten years for Red Cross and all should take a class and learn to use modern public defibrillators made simple (AED-Automated External Defibrillator)

Today the flag counter on the righthandside of the blog says "Jamaica" 2521".

If we do the biblical math:

2 + 5 = 7
5 + 2 = 7
1

So we have twice a symbol of completion, fulfillment, full circle, to be satisfied, enough!

And there is the number 1.
That is the "Shema". A number of uniqueness. Signalling independence of all others. A number of unity, one Faith, One Father of All.

Totally ridiculous constellation of my own imagination I know. Just rationalizing the irrational. Good things of him are spoken!

Rest in peace, Ian Boyne. He sounds like a remarkable man. And quite unlike those who are normally discussed on among those who of us who just to be in the COGs.
