UCG on Personal Body Fluids and Gelatin

With all the things going on the world and in peoples daily lives, UCG has placed its focus on body fluids and gelatin. They have a coronary at the mere thought of a marshmallow made with non-kosher gelatin as they feed their faces with every kind of processed and modified food imagined in their grocery store. Dink that Coke and gulp down the wine with sulfates and beer with all kinds of additives. But god forbid a marshmallow passes their lips.

UCG also has a problem with members marrying outside the "faith" due to the fact their playing field of young eligible men and women are shrinking rapidly.

Doctrine Committee—Mario Seiglie
Mario Seiglie, chair of the Doctrine Committee (DC), presented five doctrinal projects to the Council for discussion and approval. Three projects: #58 on the identity of Melchizedek, #60 on personal body fluids, and #59 on preaching from house to house were finished and had no support from the DC or the Council.
Part of the ongoing review of the Personal Correspondence Department (PCD) letters included an update to one on the subject of gelatin from unclean sources. The letter reinforces our long-standing belief that we don’t eat gelatin from unclean sources and also provides resources for gelatin products that do not come from unclean sources. It was unanimously approved by the Council and can be found on the Ministerial Resource Site.
The study paper Marrying Outside the Faith was discussed with a minor edit to changing the word “extenuating” with “problematic” to better convey the meaning in the paper. It was unanimously approved to change the wording and can be found on the Ministerial Resource Site.
Chairman Ward thanked the DC for all their work.
Isn't it amazing be part of the greatest Church of God ever!

Does UCG consider it marrying "outside the faith" when a member marries someone from LCG or COGWA? I know that in LCG members are strongly encouraged to marry within LCG, which limits marriage prospects significantly.

I just hope they know about Vitamin D enriched milk, and all of the commercial products in the store which list milk as an ingredient! Oink Oink!

#58 on the identity of Melchizedek...

Didnt Thiel, Weinland, Pack or Flurry already claim that title? UCG shouldn't be giving them any ideas!

Better make sure the marriage is based on love and shared commitment to each other, because people change over time.

Just read with fascination on how Vitamin D supplementation is made. It comes from the wool and lanolin of sheep !

Here is the process...

Sheep grease. Also referred to as wool wax or wool grease, and often more technically (read: inoffensively) called lanolin. Sheep secrete lanolin through their glands to help protect their wool coats from the environment by making them water-resistant. This sheep-secreted-gland-grease not only protects the wool coats of sheep - it also contains the Vitamin D used in the production the vast majority of artificially manufactured Vitamin D supplements on the market today. Vitamin D is extracted from sheep’s wool by squeezing or rolling the wool until it excretes a yellow and waxy substance – sheep grease. After which it is heavily processed and concentrated with synthetic chemicals until it’s consolidated into one hard-to-swallow pill for yours truly. Sounds yummy right?

Synthetically produced Vitamin D supplements aren’t the only place you can find sheep grease. It’s also commonly found in the wax that baseball players use to soften their mitts, shoe-polish, and generally any product meant to prevent rust or corrosion created by water exposure. Meaning, the same thing you’re taking daily to stay healthy could also be used to make your shoes and gutters shiny. So what’s the alternative?

I can suggest another topic for them:
How to explain away 1 Corinthians 3 - the church should not be divided.

I wonder what they think of "Transglutaminase" {meat glue}
It is made from pigs blood or beef blood or fermented bacteria.
It is used in a lot of processed meats(flesh)

What the heck is their doctrine on “personal body fluids”?! I didn’t know anybody HAD doctrines about body fluids...

@ 11:04 AM, I'm going to take a guess about one that caused controversy several years ago.

WCG taught, unambiguously, that it is a sin (the "sin of Onan") to discharge one's semen for any purpose other than procreation.

Biology, however, affirms that men who don't have sex often enough will experience involuntary nocturnal emissions. Some wonder whether these emissions are sins that must be repented of, even though involuntary. Others claim nocturnal admissions prove that it's OK for a man's seed to discharge other than for procreation, in which case anal sex with one's wife is surely preferable to nocturnal emissions.

Another "personal body fluids" question involves whether you break the Atonement fast if you swallow your saliva.

I hope UCG isn't dealing with health nuts who believe in drinking their own urine.

Ten years ago when I had originally researched this, Tonto, all papers that I found agreed that Vitamin D from porcine sources is the most potent, and was therefore the most cost efficient method of getting it into the milk supply. So porcine Vitamin D was industry standard, and pretty much universally used. When I have more time, I’ll attempt to find a link to that information once again.

Obviously there are more than one source for vitamin D. As an example, if you purchase vitamin supplements, generally non-animal sources are used in their production. Whatever the sources, animal or vegetable, it’s generally broken down into its basic chemical components, processed, and reconstituted prior to being used as a supplement or additive. However, that’s not sufficient for ACOGgers if the original source was unclean, meaning there are theoretically big implications for them in drinking Vitamin D enriched milk.

I wonder if any of the COG groups discuss how they can better keep the top 2 commandments and how well they are doing in keeping them.
My guess is the topic never comes up.
Does any insider care to comment?

It's hard to believe I was once caught up in such minutiae. We just had a lunch of BLTs and I saved the bacon fat for future frying. It's loaded with Vitamin D, but I also take a capsule every day to make sure I have plenty because I'm not out in the sun much. Once I proved to my satisfaction that a god never could or did exist, life got a lot more sane and most of the angst disappeared.

TLA, in the ACOGs, the "top 2" commandments are Sabbath-keeping and tithing. If you are mistakenly thinking about the Christ's magnification of His Old Testament commandments, you need to remember that He made the Ten more binding, such that "love God" and "love your neighbor" are a helpful shorthand for the love you show by keeping the Law (1 John 5:3).

What is the body fluids doctrine ?
Can anyone enlighten ?

The only thing problematic about marrying outside of UCG is the UCG marriage experts who think they have a right to openly try and pair up singles onto already married people.

When the supposedly UNITED Church DIVIDED into UCG and COGWA in 2010, it did not mean that what was left of the UCG was now going to start to grow. It meant that the UCG no longer had any hope of growing. The UCG will never amount to anything because it is full of too many bad people behaving too badly. From the treacherous former WCG ministers now in UCG, to the godless bums newly-credentialed as fake ministers in the UCG, to the godless attendees, the UCG people simply do not behave properly. They think they will get away with their bad behavior, but they will not.

The only thing wrong with marrying outside the church is that you might learn a new perspective from a normal person outside the cult.

guess that was in their "RCC" phase...

and the "sin of Onan" is not that he spilled his seed, he didn't follow through to produce an heir....

Body fluids and meats

Early this decade I looked at the booklets on clean and unclean meats from the major COGs. Some were a real pig's breakfast, and all seemed to follow HWA's line that it's purely a health issue. The UCG booklet touched on clean and unclean as a matter of ritual purity and impurity and the Levites, but didn't carry it to any conclusion.
A tie with body fluids are the Hebrew words tamei and tahor (other transliterations are used) which mean ritually impure and ritually pure. Emissions, menses, coitus, etc, render one tamei, usually translated as unclean, and require washing and waiting to return to being tahor.
COGs seem to consider being unclean from what you eat is a bad thing, but being unclean from body fluids is of no concern. I remember that Bob Thiel made an issue that none of the regulations for this type of "uncleanliness" apply anymore. In some ways, they could be even considered health issues, as are the tamei meats - after all, doesn't bathing after coitus have at least some health benefit? Yes, but falling asleep is usually preferred...

OK, cats and chicks, as promised:

“To produce Vitamin D-3 commercially, 7-Dehydrocholesterol is extracted from animal skin. The animal may be either the cow, pig, or a sheep. It is purified and converted to a crystalline 7-Dehydrocholesterol. Crystalline 7-Dehydrocholesterol is indistinguishable from its animal source. The crystalline 7-Dehydrocholesterol is dissolved in an organic solvent and exposed to ultraviolet light to produce vitamin D-3. This vitamin D-3 is then purified and crystallized. This is the Vitamin D-3 that is used to fortify the milk and sold to make vitamin supplements.

“In the United States, there is no legal requirement to specify the animal source used to synthesize Vitamin D-3”

(From Yahoo answers)

There is concern about this reflected in both Orthodox Jewish and Muslim sites. Several sites claim that most of the Vitamin D3 comes from pig skin, which has the highest natural concentration. It’s processed, and the vitamin is sold to the dairies. Observant Jews are concerned not only with Ex. 23:19, but also the laws in the Torah regarding consuming animal products from improper slaughter.

Anyhoo, there’s certainly enough information floating around out there to create reasonable doubt as to the animal origins for the Vitamin D in commercial milk.

Thanks for your input Hoss, your comment sparked a memory of a John Shavers sermon.
I think he taught about or touched apon this subject.

Ah you’re probably right, I have heard such things from the pulpit before. Not the urine drinking though; hopefully no one’s gotten THAT insane yet hahaha!
