Why do COG members still feel the need that they still have to go to the ministers for answers?

We are heading down the slope into 2021 and after decades of upheaval in the church and with so many splinters filled with self-appointed lying men, why do some members still think they must go to the ministry to get answers to their questions?

After all that they have witnessed over the decades in the break up of the Worldwide Church of God into hundreds and hundreds of little splinter groups, all led by men whom Herbert Armstrong would have slapped silly for their self-important arrogance, to the latest blasphemous baloney from Flurry, Pack, Weinland, and Thiel, one would think that members and ex-members would have the mental capacity to make a decision on their own about the current state of affairs in the church.

Sadly, that is still not the case. There are still floundering people out there wandering around STILL looking for that right church to belong to. Still looking for a man to tell them what to do. Still incapable of making a decision on their own, so they run to any false teacher they can find to validate their indecision.

Several hours ago, I received an email from a former Worldwide Church of God member that included the following:
I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SOME ISSUES OF MR. …. BELIEF AND APPARENTLY YOU DON’T AGREE WITH.  I DON’T THINK THAT ANY OF THESE CHURCHES AGREE WITH OTHER SO WHO DO YOU GO WITH? …
SOME OF GERALD FLURRY’S TEACHINGS ARE COMPLETELY WRONG AND HE’S GONE FAR OUT ON SOME THINGS SUCH AS ARMSTRONG’S STONE REPLACING JACOB’S.  MANY, MANY PLACES IN THE BIBLE STATES THAT CHRIST IS THAT ROCK AND IT’S SPIRITUAL.  CHRIST DOESN’T NEED A ROCK.  FLURRY BASED HIS THEORY ON THE IDEA THAT COME KIDS STOLE JACOB’S ROCK FROM ENGLAND.  THAT’S AMAZING SINCE IT WEIGHS OVER 350 LBS.  I’VE READ OTHER LITERATURE THAT THE STONE IS STORED IN SCOTLAND.FALSE PREACHER #1
I SAW A DAVID PACK SERMON ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE 2 WITNESSES .  HE SAID THAT THEY ARE IN HIS CHURCH RIGHT NOW.  I BELIEVE HE’S NOW PULLED THAT SERMON BECAUSE I COULDKN’T FIND IT NOW. FALSE PREACHER #2
I SAW A SERMON BY THE LIVING CHURCH OF GOD ABOUT THE MARK OF THE BEAST AND THE PRESENTER SAID WITHOUT HESITATION THAT THE MARK OF THE BEAST IS SUNDAY WORSHIP.  PERIOD.. HE MADE NO MENTION OF ANY MARKS ON YOUR BODY OR 666.  SABBATH MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT, BUT THERE WILL BE OTHER FACTORS.  YOU LEFT BECAUSE OF DOCTRINE. I’LL  ????????? ….
NOW I COME TO …  A FALSE TEACHER …
YOU SEE HOW A PERSON COULD BE DECEIVED?
PLEASE ADVISE

This still questioning person had the ability to at least slightly perceive that Flurry, Pack, and LCG are wrong, and yet they run to one of the biggest liars the church currently has in it for an answer, Bob Thiel.

Here is what the great Dr. told the person:

Anyway, here is what I responded to the former WCG member with:
Dear …:
As I have repeatedly written at COGwriter, I doubt that David Pack or Gerald Flurry are converted.
I consider that the only COG that is Philadelphian is the CCOG–though not all in CCOG are Philadelphian and there are Philadelphians not in CCOG–but no other COG represents the continuation of Philadelphia.
You should use God’s criteria, and none other to decide.
Here are two links you should read and pray about if you are truly serious:<
  1. How does the Continuing Church of God differ from other Sabbatarian COG groups?
  2. Does the CCOG have the confirmed signs of Acts 2:17-18?
But most refuse to believe and use their own standards.
Best regards,
Bob Thiel

Of course, he is going to say Flurry and Pack are wrong.  How could he say anything less? To do so would take the spotlight off his amazing wisdom. After all, no human in the history of the world has ever been more set apart for the job of leading the church than the reincarnated Elijah, Elisha, Amos, Habbakuk, doubly-blessed, and self-appointed prophet Bob has dreamed into being. Remember that Dr. Eljah Bob's theological understanding is so far advanced that he felt the need to correct Rod Meredith and the Living Church of God.  When Meredith publicly rebuked Thiel from the pulpit and kicked him out of the church, the Great Elijah rose up in self-righteous anger due to the utter humiliation he felt. That's what started this whole shit show of absurdity.

As usual, the Great Bwana identifies his little group as the one and ONLY true church. The true heir of the so-called Philadelphia era of the church.
I consider that the only COG that is Philadelphian is the CCOG–though not all in CCOG are Philadelphian
Dr. Elijah Bob is right about one thing though, COG members and ex-members should use God's criteria and throw Bob's perverse theology and self-aggrandizing ministry back into the stinking pig trough where it came from.

All the pearls in the world cannot dress up an unclean pig especially when it wallows in some of the worst theological pig slop imaginable.

We must never forget that there is no COG leader on the face of the entire earth who is more converted than Dr. Elijah Bob, the Great Bwana, and savior of Africa.

It would be very interesting, fascinating, scintillating, educational, and edifying, to hear what Herbert W. Armstrong would have to say about some of the worst lying false prophets like Gerald Flurry and David Pack. Herbert W. Armstrong would get to the “trunk of the tree” about those demon-possessed fraudsters. It would come as an embarrassing surprise to the people who got suckered into following Flurry and Pack.

Remember HWA started out in Portland as an orthodox Christian who understood Sabbaths were done away in the NT...until his ego took over.

Over 30 years ago, I called the minister ( Jon. K.) to ask him a question. It was after nine in the morning. He gave me proper hell for calling him on the preparation day!
I figured, I interrupted some special time with his wife.
After that, I never called him again, I didn't need that s--t.
To this day, I never forgot that. I make my own decisions.

the reason may not be theological, but psychological. Some people are very insecure and want a parent to decide everything for them. A psychologist can give a better explanation as to why people continue to go from one group to another to be told what to believe than a theologian can.

The advice to sincere seekers of the truth regarding the true Church is to go back to the faith once delivered aka the original teachings of Radio Church of God (1927-1967) and not Worldwide Church of God (1968-1995). You will find the inspired original teachings have been changed that resulted in Worldwide Church of God splitting into hundreds of groups having some original teaching but lost their way. The parent Worldwide Church of God has become a Protestant Grace Communion International. To help the sincere seeker of truth, just look for a splinter of Worldwide Church of God that keeps the original Monday Pentecost and Divorce and Remarriage Doctrines for starters.

The Radio church of God didn't have it right either, mainly because it's leader never had it right. If he did have it right, he wouldn't have been having an incestuous relationship with his daughter, would have seen the health and welfare of his family and wife in both the early years and as his wife was dying from a treatable condition. He wouldn't have changed the divorce and remarriage idea to justify himself marrying someone he wanted at that time. If he had it right, he wouldn't have been divorced from his second wife, NO he didn't have it right and in no way is or has it ever been "the faith once delivered". He didn't have any love for his country, the one that gave him the right to believe as he wished, neither did he have any love for anyone other than himself.

The divorce and remarriage and old healing doctrines are the worst things ever conjured up by the "true church"How many happy homes were torn asunder and how many lives lost because of those grossly erroneous teachings?

I don't have any statistics to support this, but I believe the Armstrongist ministry attracts men who have an anger management problem. And Armstrongist congregations seem to relish angry sermons. I recall Armstrongist ministers who gave what were considered to be powerful sermons. They were all angry sermons. If you heard people saying after services "wasn't that a powerful sermon!" it was without fail an angry sermon. Loud, fist-banging Number Eight speech. In the audience eyes aglow. You know the pathology.

I once asked a minister an innocuous question and he stood toe-to-toe with me and yelled in my face. He later retired from GCI. You have to be cautious about asking any Armstrongist minister a question - some of them live on the edge of going postal. I also think police departments attract men who like to hurt people. All policeman should be given a psychological profiling as a prerequisite to employment. The sadistic bad apples could be weeded out. And people would not have to march in the streets. Armstrongists will never deal with the men in their ministries with anger management problems because that pathology masquerades as spiritual power.

When I flew in the airlines, we had a term for people like Bob...."self-important pecker heads". It was a term our rampers came up for asshole pilots, which I used fondly. Dr. Bob is also suffering from "Jerusalem Syndrome".....which makes one a self-important pecker head.

The reason people go from one group to another to be told what to believe, is because it takes effect to grow up. For instance, "prove all things" is a life long ongoing process that many abdicate early in life. The result is that they end up being devoured by Supreme Leader Jim Jong-Pack and similar.

When first engaging on "anti" blogs J had not heard or known of 90 percent of the "perceived evils", that were under discussion.

Then I noticed that people were mostly discussing pre 1972 evils. Like the divorce thing and the race and health doctrines.

The problem with the worst of splinter leaders is that they "revived" some pet radio church of god doctrines from the moment they were called under the guise of raising ruins or being true to the armstrong philosophy, they clearly never understood, just taking orders.

RB wrote "To help the sincere seeker of truth. . ."

The "sincere seeker of truth" would only become involved with old Radio Church of God doctrines if he/she were regrettably ensnared by cult idiosyncrasies. Why the poor seeker would be vulnerable and succumb is a complex question many of us have wrestled with. The truth is to be found in the analysis of this question rather than the Millerite malarkey taught by the superseded RCG.

Never Dumpty, y'all!

I highly doubt that there are people sending Thiel these kinds of letters. In his deluded mind, he dreams this kind of stuff up and prints it as if it is legitimate. These letters are no more legitimate than his fake ordination and self-appointment as a Church of God leader. You all get to see first hand the lies that he has told and this is the reason Mr. Meredith canned his ass and kicked him out of LCG.

The faith once delivered was not delivered by HWA prior to or after any set number of years. That is a fact. The churches have been misinterpreting that phrase wrongly for decades, especially the Monday Pentecost keeping groups. Jude called it "the faith WHICH WAS once delivered. Meaning IT WAS ALREADY DELIVERED. By who? None other than the one who died for all mankind. Get back to your Bible and what it says, and you will be getting back to that faith. If HWA did anything, he taught portions of the faith mixed with a bunch of other teachings that are not. That being said, I have a lot of respect for some of the work that HWA did during his time. Why do these groups frame the faith around the time of HWA? Because WWCG is no longer around and has dissolved entirely into hundreds of other little groups we affectionately refer to as "splinter groups". This gives their leaders justification somehow to treat the faith like it's some kind of an "a la carte" menu. They shape it so that they corral their members into a physical organization which they can control, rather than shaping it into something that is supposed to be spiritual in nature. Remember, the physical is going to burn up. I would like to bring to their attention the words of God about those who pick and choose what they think belongs in the faith. He who changes, adds, or removes any words from the Words of God; will find himself in a very sore spot. Paraphrasing of course.

Regarding Monday Pentecost. These two teachings have been used to do nothing but divide groups and keep brethren divided. Satan is the one who divides. When a person get's baptized, that's their day of Pentecost. Albeit not with tongues of fire and speaking in someone else's language. Acts chapter 2 was a "one-off" to establish that the Church was going to take off like a wildfire (no pun intended). Maybe something similar will happen again just prior to the return of Christ in order to get people to stand up and take notice? Who knows. The actual day of Pentecost is given in Leviticus 23. Scripture says it was given to the nation of Israel and that THEY were to keep it through all of THEIR generations. I'm not a physical Israelite, are you? We are spiritual Israelites however according to the New Testament. One after the heart, but not of the flesh. So what does that say about the day of Pentecost for you and me? Keep it for consistency if you wish on a Sunday, Monday, or Sivan 6. Do it because God is consistent, but understand when you keep it, it is for tradition. To remember what the early New Testament Church received. This garbage I have heard about not being in the right place on the right day or you will lose out, goes completely contrary to what scripture tells us. Why be called at different times and baptized at different times then? Pentecost for these groups has quite literally became an idol.

The teaching on Divorce and Remarriage should never be touched unless there is something that is going on in the Church that is so egregious it has the ability to cause others to follow after. This for the most part is uncommon in the Church today. At least to my knowledge it is. The way ministers have handled it in the past, and probably still are to some degree, are completely unbiblical. If they want to meddle in someone's business, they should meddle in their own. D & R cases are matter of the heart and should be worked out between the parties involved and God. In the end, we will all stand or fall before God for the decisions we have made in this life. That is the bottom line.

You all need to take a look at Brother Boob's site. He has another epic meltdown over people saying he was kicked out of LCG. Brother Boob just can never get a break! You are all such bad meanies here. https://www.cogwriter.com/gnews.htm

Wow! What a melt down Bob is having. When they react this much they are guilty as hell. Glad to know he was kicked out instead of resigning."

Damn Bob! Get a grip. You are not that important to the Church of God. You need to take some humility pills.

I can see why Meredith kicked him out of LCG. Never have I seen such an arrogant and haughty person.
