Just to show you how whacked out Pack is, Applegate is actually easier to understand than Pack is, and that alone should scare anyone!
Applegate was insane, but he was a gentle soul who delighted in seeing his followers flourish within the bizarro-world of the cult. He had a few followers who came and went from "the classroom" several times with his permission and blessings. And although he tried to suppress and eliminate all his human feelings, it is evident that he actually felt affection (maybe more) for some of his flock.
Pack is just a control-freak monster who believes (consciously or unconsciously) that it is his prerogative to make other men his slaves. He visibly loathes the people who are weak enough to get ensnared in his web.
Yes, except for the whole suicide thing, Applewhite seems like a much better influence on his people. And if it turns out that both RCG and Heaven's Gate are suicide cults, I would call Applewhite's the more benign.
Dave has always been proud of his "precision of thought". He's got one hell of way to define precision.
Applewhite reminds me of a $50 quack cure video for herpes. This despite there being no cure, only medications to suppress the symptoms. He claims to be the returned Jesus Christ. Such self exaltation is always the source of their power over their followers.
Which is why the ACOG leaders are giving themselves every manner of fancy pants titles. THE EXALTED ONES.

The average ‘lifespan’ of any cult seems to be somewhere between 20 and 25 years. Applewhite, Jim Jones, David Koresh.. Their cults lasted for about that long, then they reached their boiling point and there was no other way out.
